Tom probably allows himself occasional inconsistencies for dramatic effect and variety.

Aww, poor Rey. xD I wonder if Jones could tell what was going on inside the illusion? Oh, weekend break. Yeah, there's a lot of questions I have about this. In the power plant chapter, Zimmy and crew ended up in Zimmyland but appeared to be right there on the roof to everyone else. I imagine they looked like they were standing there in a trance to those who weren't affected. But here, as the rain washes away the illusion, the characters appear to be placed physically in the same positions as when they were in the illusion. This seems to imply they moved around on the rooftop as illusion-time passed. But if they moved around, what was the time scale in relation to reality? What was the distance scale? In the illusion, they seemed to walk a great distance. Were they in danger of falling off the roof? I'm guessing that Jones would not be affected by the illusion and would have just seen some kids on the roof, perhaps walking around in a trance. I hope people see the inconsistency I'm talking about here between the current chapter and what happened in the power plant chapter. In "Power Plant", they got 'ported out by Gamma. In this one, the rain "washed it away". In Power Plant, they fritzed into it together . . . in this one, Annie at least walked into it through a door. They are inconsistent, but they are also not the same. (And it did seem implied (though not explicitly stated) that very little or no time passed between them entering and leaving Zimmingham in "Power Station". None of the kids on the roof noticed anything was amiss.)

Yeah - so many things are different between this chapter and that one that I would hesitate to call it inconsistent yet. The discrepancies are *slightly* annoying to me, but I'm not even sure they're discrepancies yet.

Looking at the last panel again, I find it interesting that Jones says "ether" in the water makes Zimmy more relaxed, since the only ether I know that relaxes people is a highly addictive anesthetic. Makes me think of Dr. Wilbur Larch in The Cider House Rules, by John Irving. Larch is a brilliant and charitable doctor (obstetrician/abortionist to be precise) but horribly addicted to ether. It's probably not that the magic energy is inherently a relaxant, but it just has that effect on Zimmy because of her condition. Also, if I may be so bold, I suspect that the Ether is a reference to the old scientific concept of the ether, dating back to Aristotle. More recently, before space-time theory, ether was posited the medium through which electromagnetic waves flow (the theory being that since sound and other waves travel through and distort a medium, so must the electromagnetic. c.f., Luminiferous aether). It's not exactly that, of course, but I think it fits well with the whole alchemical theme running through the story as well.

Is Rey more terrified of Zimmy when her eyes are visible?
The Ether collecting station may have stored up quite a bit of etheric energy, so the rain would have been super-saturated with Ether. Interesting.

Hmm, Annie seems remarkably calm considering what happened in that place. Guess she can adapt quickly to this sort of weirdness.

I wonder if Zimmy can collect energy from something other than rain. What would happen if she visited the forest? (besides making Yensgrim angry.)

The symbol on Rey's forehead in the first panel is difficult to make out, but in the second panel it looks different from what we're used to - compare to this for example. Does this mean someone else owns him now? Maybe Jack? edit: But here it looks to be about the same, and this is post-Jack... hmmm...

Rey's a little jumpy in panels 1/2, hehe Also, the 6th panel is so cute, he looks cuddly :3 Edit: Spacemilk-the symbol is still the antimony symbol, it's just smushed together at the top.

Ooh! Well spotted. I don't recognize the new symbol, but I have a fairly limited knowledge of alchemy.

Hmm... maybe Zimmy has some crazy look in ether-form that we have yet to see. Could explain why Rey has always kept his distance from her.

Is Rey more terrified of Zimmy when her eyes are visible? Comedic effect aside, I suspect he sees more about Zimmy than we do. (Perhaps "feels" is a better word.) From page [725] we already know that "her brain is in tune with the ether in a similar maner to Coyote or Renard, but in such a way that causes a large amount of stress on her psyche." So her eyes and teeth are creepy to us, but are likely the least of Rey's worries. His skin is probably crawling just from her physical proximity, and a sense of "wrongness" about her. (See page [80] as well, where he jumps away from her touch and calls her a demon.) Animals have a highly developed sense of illness and disease, and I think Zimmy definitely qualifies on an etheric level. I wonder if Zimmy can collect energy from something other than rain. What would happen if she visited the forest? (besides making Yensgrim angry.) Oooh, the thought of Zimmy in the Forest is interesting on many levels. There would certainly be... reactions... of some kind. * I suspect you may have hit on a future story line here! *I was going to use Mentos and Coke as an analogy, but then I realized I would have to add in spiders, and that's just gross.

Which does beg the question of why hasn't somebody rigged Zimmy up with the appropriate tinfoil beanie to zap her head with etheric power 24/7.

Just in case anyone still thinks it's different... it's different if you see it like this: However it is normal if you see it like this: Neat little illusion! Which does beg the question of why hasn't somebody rigged Zimmy up with the appropriate tinfoil beanie to zap her head with etheric power 24/7. I agree!! Or give her swimming lessons and have her in the water 24/7. Jones' comment in the last panel seems like her own speculation. I suppose the Court in general hasn't connected 2 and 2 yet, so they haven't known what to do to help her. Or they just don't care about helping her- that would be a predictable bureaucratic attitude. But maybe this hullabaloo with Jack will make them want to make Zimmy less dangerous.

Theory: The Court intentionally makes it rain ether inside the boundaries of the Court every once in a while in order to keep Zimmy from going haywire and unleashing Hell on earth. Thereby making their reasons for bringing her to GC completely self-preservational. They can keep her from going to critical mass while she's here.
Just a theory.

Re: some of the the comments on the page: I figured out that Jones was probably a golem around the first time someone said she wasn't a robot. I just never thought it worthwhile to mention. I thought it was the obvious second choice.

Does Juliette in this comic have a last name? I'm thinking of calling her Chekhov, because you don't introduce a Power Station worker in the first act if Jones didn't intend to use her in the third act. And the little robot is obviously Anton.
