Goldurn it Tom. *shakes fist* I see Aata down there, and those lights in the dark are clearly robots.

BTW, the title should be in lowercase. (Look at the "i".)
EDIT: Thanks!

I spy Mr. Buddha and possibly Donald and Anja in the crowd. Great last panel.

Some major plot developments, dude. That's what's going on here.
This is definitely a major turning point in the story, in case anyone couldn't already tell.

I love the cobwebby etheric squiggles on Jack. From the looks of those panels it looks like he's going to become an even more dangerous character whenever we see him next.
But does this mean we have to wait until next Monday to see what happens? D: Why do you torture your readers so, Tom?

I think, at long last, now Annie finally has something that can be called an antagonist.
As for getting out of this, I don't think it'll be that difficult. She'll just explain it was Jack's doing and I honestly think they'll believe her. Of course sorting all this out will take just long enough for her (and Rey) being left there to serve their purpose.

I knew it was Gold Buttons on the boat! I KNEW it! You can see Aata!
And... a lot of robots with... orange eyes. That's... oddly intimidating.
This is the most tense I've felt since the end of Chapter 7. Maybe even more tense, since Ch. 7 it was pretty clear Annie at least wasn't falling to her death.
Here, you don't know WHAT is about to happen to Annie. There's just so many directions this story can go from here.
Ps: judgedeadd: Too right, I fixed it.

Hey, upcoming interrogation! Actual sharing of information between Annie and the Court! Maybe we, the readers, will even learn something. HAHAHA Who am I kidding? D-did Tom just use an Internet meme in his comment?! It's more likely than you think.

Of course sorting all this out will take just long enough for her (and Rey) being left there to serve their purpose. Chances are they won't be too kind on her for sneaking into their super etheric power station thing, though. Eglamore may be willing to let her off with some detention, but the gold buttons guys seem like more serious business.

Yes, it seems like things are actually getting more serious. There's a character who will probably become an active and malicious threat to pretty much everyone, one of Annie's main sources of safety is probably going to be confiscated, and we'll probably see some of the Court's 'big guns' when it comes to dealing with trouble.
I believe Annie should assemble whoever's willing and on hand to pose as a team, cause shit just got real.

I also agree. She came to help him, and he betrayed her trust by using her as a diversion. I wonder how Kat will react when Annie tells her about this? I'm guessing first she'll get mad, then she'll get even.

That much is true. I have the feeling though that Jack might be taking being pushed away like this rather personal. He hasn't been known for being very reasonable lately, after all.

If Rey is still bound to the doll, then the Court can't confiscate Rey or the doll without breaking the bond of ownership, allowing him to resume stealing bodies. Which the Court doesn't want him to do.

Which the Court doesn't want him to do. True, but even if he is bound to the doll, they can probably at least utilize the still-binding effect of Jack's trap and keep him prisoner without breaking the ownership and sealing him etherically anyway. They may be able to duplicate it (assuming Jack came up with it first), or move the whole thing into safe storage, taking a chunk of that wall if nothing else. We've seen no indication that they'd go to that length though, so you may end up correct regardless.

D-did Tom just use an Internet meme in his comment?! No. That's not a meme. It is. Unless you mean that it doesn't fit the original, technical definition of "meme", in which case, yeah. Considering Tom's well-documented hatred of internet-isms, it's a safe bet that this was unintentional. The internet has a ridiculous ability to turn anything into a running gag, so it's easy to see how someone could repeat a phrase without realizing that they're perpetuating an internet joke.

It should be easy enough for Annie to explain that she wasn't the one who designed the ether-trap. If she had been there with Kat, it'd be a different story.
I am guessing we will leave this scene for now and start following a new breach of the story. Maybe a shoot-out between Zimmy and Jack in Birminghell/Zimmyham?

They may be able to duplicate it (assuming Jack came up with it first), or move the whole thing into safe storage, taking a chunk of that wall if nothing else. Jack didn't come up with it first, his devices run a modified recombination of Anja's binding and extraction programs. Speculation: Very possibly powered by siphoning Reynardine's energy, and completely independent of Anja's system. Replicating Jack's array would be like shooting a gigantic "FUCK YOU!" in Reynardine's direction. Coyote might not be too happy, either. After all, if the court mass-produced Jack's array, Reynardine could never risk taking a living body again. EVER. I'll explain why if required. There's no indication The Court would do such a thing, though, as The Court mistrusts mixes of Etheric and Mechanical technology. Maybe a shoot-out between Zimmy and Jack in Birminghell/Zimmyham? Oh, poor Zimmy. She'd get her ass kicked so hard it wouldn't even be funny; even Annie made her kiss pavement. Jack would have Zimmy down faster than you can say "curb stomp".

Uh oh, Jack and Annie are giving each other the "we are now mortal enemies" look.
And what's this? A cliff-hanger??
The reprcussions of this are going to be interesting. I don't think Annie is going to get away with this quite as lightly as when she fell off the bridge, considering the fact that students aren't even supposed to know about the power station. And of course, the Court has Reynardine cornered now- they could try and bring him back under their control.
Whatever the specifics are, I have a feeling Big Events are afoot.

Mezzaphor, it's a ridiculously old turn of phrase. The memetic use (which I didn't even know about) involves spoofing the advertisement. And honestly, just because a phrase exists in a meme form used by some people somewhere doesn't mean you are perpetuating a meme for using it.

I'm betting the next chapter will start out with Annie in prison/jail/the cooler being interrogated by the yellow-button dudes, and will perhaps focus primarily on Kat and her efforts to untangle what went down at the power station. At least, that'd be pretty neat; we haven't had a Kat chapter in a while and it seems like this makes for a perfect opportunity.
Additionally, the first two panels would make great reactionface image fodder.

I wish I'd said in #712's thread what I was thinking when we saw this panel: "Hey look on the boat's deck, it's JONES!" Well, that'll teach me to voice ALL of my speculations in the future! Because judging by this chapter, damn near all of them are actually right.
