Comic 713. Man, Jack is totally nuts. Borderline paranoia (accusing Annie of having been tracked), megalomania, etc. Also his expression in panel 4 is just crazy. The green lights give the impression that in his boundless rage, he is spewing out flecks of phosphorescent spittle.

It looks like reality is breaking up around Jack in panel 4. That can't be a good sign.

In panel 4, the background is warping behind Jack. I wonder if that's just a stylistic thing, or some kind of etheric distortion.

Curses! You bested my topic by mere seconds!
Yeah, our Jacko is very much out of it at the moment. I really like his face in panel five.

Ah, yes, comic pages. The socially acceptable version of "F1R2T!!!!!!" I can understand it, as jerky as it is. It feels good.
Anyway, yeah, it's getting worse. Might be a coincidence, but in panels 2 and 5 you can see the gunk creeping into his cheeks. It's growing.
EDIT: Hmmm, it was already in his cheeks. It does look like it's a bit thicker there though. 2 lines instead of one, maybe.

Jacks crazy in the coconut. This is pretty amusing in and of itself, seeing exactly how deeply disturbed he will get before he hits rock bottom.

seriously, this is going to teach annie that the people who need help the most, don't want it. Jack really does need help, but his brain spider has him convinced he is right.

It occurs to me that Jack hasn't explicitly mentioned Zimmy here. All the references have been simply "her". Zimmy's the obvious conclusion, but there is another: It's someone he saw in Zimmingham. Possibly someone dead. We know Zimmingham can make nobodies based on real people from the Fake Kat, so it's not unreasonable that a similar situation happened to Jack.

This page convinced me even more that Jack, in his etheric-addled condition, didn't think out his plan carefully enough. He takes precautions to keep from being tracked, but brings Annie, who's still trackable, with him, ensuring that the Court authorities could follow *her* to the power station. (Which raises the question more than ever of why he wanted her and Reynardine to come.)

But he didn't see Gamma at all; only Zimmy and Annie saw her. I think there's some rule that if a person was actually in Zimmyham, schle can't have a mindclone there.
In any case, Jack did seem the most agitated about Zimmy. Maybe he saw his sister that died in a tragic accident there, that's a possibility. But it seems more likely that, as he's referred to Zimmy before, that he's talking about Zimmy.

If Jack is trying to attract someone besides Zimmy, then he was lying here and here, where he outright said he had tried to find Zimmy before. Jack did mention on the last page that "she won't show herself" -- I can't think of any students besides Zimmy and Gamma who are that hard to find.

Perhaps the "she" in this specific page refers to someone other than Zimmy. Personally, I think that it would be an interesting take on the "I met with eldritch powers and now I crazy AUUGAGAGAGAH!" theme, with the apparent breakdown of sanity combined with external baggage. It downplays the otherness of said eldritch powers, but also downplays the otherness of the victim as well. Although, if Jack did become infatuated with Gamma, and is becoming something like Zimmy, then we'd obviously have a creepy-supernatural-insomniac-love-triangle. With hijinks.

"Awww!"Also, this means that at best he could find this way is very annoyed Zimmy. Perhaps the "she" in this specific page refers to someone other than Zimmy. Given how much he's bent on it, highly unlikely. Though "someone met there" still is an option. Although, if Jack did become infatuated with Gamma, and is becoming something like Zimmy, then we'd obviously have a creepy-supernatural-insomniac-love-triangle. With hijinks. Heh. Good idea.

I still wonder how the meeting with the people who landed (assuming that they're Court security - the most likely explanation) is going to turn out for Annie. She could be considered an accessory to Jack's actions at the power station, which are serious - and that's on top of the incident at the bridge the year before, and freeing Reynardine (in a way). I can't see how the Court is going to tolerate Annie's adventures and meddlings after this; they would have to make it clear to her that these excursions have to stop - whether through her giving them up voluntarily, or their placing her under so many restrictions that she can't sneak off to go exploring Gunnerkrigg any longer.
But it would be difficult to have further stories at Gunnerkrigg if Annie has to give up those adventures - unless the webcomic replaces her with a new protagonist, or all the stories (for a while, at least) are about school activities (like the Recreational) or Annie watching her classmates deal with their problems (like the Parley/Smith trouble), that won't require her to go snooping about on her own or with a friend or two. I look forward to seeing how Tom handles this.

I don't think that Annie is going to be put in jail or anything like that. I'm sure that Tom's got something planned that will make sense and satisfy most everyone.
However, having said that, if I were to purely speculate about how one could get around the plot-staller of being incarcerated, I would say that Annie could get her blinker stone to Kat or someone else to carry around, and then basically exist in ghost-mode until she were free. She can interact with the physical world in ghost-mode so she wouldn't really be incarcerated.
I don't actually think the above is going to happen though, I'm just speculating in a "what-if" scenario.

I used the word "mindclone" to refer to the fake people in the alternate reality, like the faceless people and Kat.

I'm interested in how Jack's newfound reality-warping powers will interact with the power station's output/'environmental' effects. Will his abilities become more powerful (even if only temporarily) from it? Will it cause him to suck everything within a 10 mile radius into zimmyland along with himself? Could he eventually end up like the protagonist from the movie Dark City? That would be wicked awesome. www.youtube.com/watch?v=VKqhfMLnnqg&feature=related
