[706]Poor thing. Does he have no programmed noise which could substitute a whistle. Anything must be better than just the word. Also poor thing getting smacked down by Jack.

Honestly, some people might have been shocked at his violence, but I doubt anyone at the Court would really care that Securitybot is dead, like Annie. Kat would probably be concerned, but Annie's actually horrified. I don't blame her.
Oh, Jack. I hope you find a cure or whatever to help you recover. I mean this about the last page and this one: Jack being hidden in the shadows really suits him.

I'm actually unsure if you can kill the court robots just by hitting them in the head. Considering how they're something other than just plain old technology.
I seriously love how inept they are at their work. Comic relief is really hard to do in a good way. But Tom succeeds.

Even Reynard sniffs at the dead bot, like he would a fellow creature.
I bet Kat can put the poor thing bact together, or at least retrieve its brain chip.
And if my thought about surveillance is right, somewhere, a monitor just went dark. That should attract attention.

No! That was my favorite character! D:
Freaking-out Annie and dark, over-the-shoulder glancing Jack in the same panel looks terrifying.

I don't think this is a sign that Jack's losing his moral compass, just that he's being serious now. Securitybot and Laser Cow are both "just dumb robots" as far as he's concerned, but where the cow was an interesting challenge to repair the guard was just an obstacle that needed to be overcome.

I love how this is treated. Even though it's g-rated violence, it's really shocking to see the robot smashed like that.

This raises some questions about the Court robots.
Are their idiosyncratic personalities programmed?
Is anyone other than Annie and Kat aware of the robots' individuality?
Also, would Jack have done the same if it was an ethereal being or forest creature?

To quote a certain famous video game,
"Rules of engagement sir?" "Crew expendable."
I'm not too concerned about poor security bot, though, since the court's robots seem to store their personalities on/in their central processing units, and his is probably still intact. I believe Jack's scored what in military parlance is called a mission-kill; that is, he's rendered the enemy effectively unable to resist or otherwise participate in combat without actually killing anyone.

I'm more and more getting the feeling Jack is setting Annie up. Like he's just having her tag along so that if they finally get caught (which of course they will), he can bolt, leaving her to take the fall for him.
A couple of strips back he failed to answer for what purpose he asked Annie to come (he supplied a reason - she's the only other person who knows what's going on - but note he never actually said anything about her helping him finding out what happened to him). We have learned he has kind of a reason to harbor evil feelings towards Annie (since she didn't respond when he called out to her in Zimmingham) and we know that he has acted somewhat hostile towards her before. Now he's displaying a kind of ruthlessness that's borderlining on disturbing. I'm getting a baaad feeling about this. :/
Edit: Let's keep one thing in mind: Whether court robots generally can be considered sentient being, and whether people are aware of that, can be debated. However one thing can not: A robot is still a highly advanced picce of technology. Intentionally smashing it to pieces is still a major act of malicious damage to property. Even if it's "just a dumb robot", that doesn't make it okay.

Jack's probably guilty of Unauthorized access to a computer system and any number of other offenses ranging from petty/grand theft to assault, considering what he already told us about his recent activities. Really, malicious property damage isn't a particularly heinous crime compared to what they've already done.

Seems familiar. Is that the first time we see Jack with eyes 100% Zimmish?

He's referring to the robot as "it" now. He had referred to the cow as "she" and even with the affectionate "girl". I think he's definitely worsened - his sense of empathy with other beings (at least robots) has decreased.

Eeeh. It's been established that Court robots are sentient. So unless the CPU can be salvaged, Jack has essentially just commited murder.
Also, he must be really, really strong to even be able to do that. He's getting less human by the minute.

The psychopomps would probably disagree with you, given Muut's comment about the tic-toc bird.
But since I'm not a psychopomp, I rather agree with you.

Yeow, Jack. That is way not cool D:
on a lighter note, the robot's 'whistle' reminds me of TRC's Fai and his 'fweet' in lieu of a whistle.

Um.
Yikes. How are those mood swings going, Jack?
As dark as this page is, I have to admit that was a very nicely drawn action pose. You can really feel the impact.
Ans hey, look at Jack's eyes in the Crunch panel. Where have we seen that before?

Speaking of Annie, any guesses on how she would confront Jack?
Can't really see her just letting the event go considering her experience with the robots.

I have a mental image of Jack, when Annie protests to him about his callous act, retorting that he doesn't have time for a digression about a new comic relief eccentric character - he wants to get those answers NOW!
(The robot guard's depiction as comic relief makes Jack's action seem all the more brutal; you just don't kill the comic relief characters - you merely send them off-stage for a while when the story takes a more serious turn.)
I certainly think that this page has reversed any sympathy from the audience that Jack has gained, not to mention most of the speculations about his becoming Annie's boy-friend (which last seems unlikely to me; for one thing, I don't think that Jack's treatment of Annie so far is a promising beginning to a romantic relationship).

Personally I think that was pretty awesome. I mean, Jack must have had to be pretty strong to take that guy down like he did, with one hit too. If I had any real sympathy for him to begin with, it certainly isn't lessened by this. Like he said, it's just a robot. And shippers are a committed folk; something like this won't deter them.

Yeah I'm still pretty sympathetic to the guy to be honest. Even if he did just brain that robot, well, it's not as if he had many other options. I mean consider it from his position. If this guardbot detects them, they either have to leave the facility in a hurry (meaning he can't find out what's wrong with him) or they get captured and carted off to detention/jail/whatever (meaning he can't find out what's wrong with him, AND there's a decent chance he'll be dissected for science). He's already to the point where he can't eat anything because he thinks all food is contaminated with tracking devices, and he's reasonably confident he won't be staying sane or even necessarily alive for much longer if he can't fix himself. So he's desperate and will do whatever it takes to survive. And besides, it's not like he's killing a person: as far as he knows it's just a glorified security system on legs. An obstacle to be overcome, or a goomba to stomp on. I think most people in that situation would behave the same way. Maybe even worse.
