Well if she manages this situation, and I'm sure she does, she will probably get a better relationship to Ysengrin. It might actually be the only way that is possible, he's not very warm and cuddly otherwise. I bet he'll get angry and defensive in the beginning but if she get's his confidence a lot of good might come of this.

I'm getting flashbacks to Alistair.

First real test as a medium for Annie. I hope she does well.

I am not convinced Coyote wants to test Annie, he's just being the Trickster.

This is, of course, complicated by the fact that Ysengrin is not likely to accept any ill-speaking of Coyote, meaning that just telling the truth is right out. :\

Hm. If he can come out whenever he wants, he could come out regularly and exercise his limbs. But he doesn't, resulting in the withered body we've seen. Perhaps that's what Coyote means by pathetic; he prefers his beloved Coyote's gift to his own body and neglects it.

That's a really good question - for all his dislike of humans, he seems to find their form likeable enough to imitate. And then likeable enough to even clothe it in a somewhat human fashion with a hood and suchlike.

Makes me wonder if really he dislikes most humans, but somehow respects certain very special individuals sufficiently to say "Humans are not all bad, but the majority of them majorly suck." Maybe he even loved one, but she was killed by Humans being their classically paranoid selves. (Yes I'm working up to a notion, but I won't spill it outright...it's honestly too damn crazy.)

Anyways, I noticed a few things now:

One - He generally doesn't seem to act out against Humans unless extremely provoked. Where does that restraint come from if he hates that species so much? For the most part, he's still able to fulfill his duties to Coyote by escorting Annie to him the first time she visited the Forest.

Two - He doesn't seem entirely against humans joining the Wood, just sticks to his condition that they give up their human bodies. It's almost like he knows the human condition is part of why he hates them. Once they're out of those bodies, he could care less, perhaps?

Three - That title of General. That's a human title, not an animalistic "alpha male" one. How'd he get that? It's almost as if he'd had a human form once, and then changed back to wolf-form later.

As for that push - good grief, Coyote! I'm going to be curious to see how Annie handles it. That looks on its surface as if done for kicks, but I suspect he timed this pretty perfectly. He knows Ys can't put up too much of a fight at the get-go, and he knows Annie could afford to gain Ysengrin's trust. He picked the perfect moment of vulnerability for both of them, just as Jones did with the flowers and ParleyXSmitty. His delivery is just a good deal less tactful than Jones'.

I am not convinced that Ysengrin is so weak that he does not pose a threat to Annie. I am curious what Coyote means with 'stand thine ground'.

In Chuckle's defense, the human forms is remarkably effective at general motion. Being upright allows the usage of the forelimbs for tools and hands and junk. Also, if we're being technical, we've never seen his legs under that cloak save now, so far as we know he could be doing like that snowman narator in the old Rudolph claymation.

If anything, he is probably aware of some level of irony in the matter, or else thinks of himself as like, a monkey.

In any case, he's about to be remarkably upset with a variety of people, but mostly Annie. This is his special fish time! How dare she!

Why are you guys assuming that Ysengrin isn't dangerous? That body is something that uses his tree-manipulation powers, but there's nothing that suggests he can't use those powers while out of it. The tree-body is presumably a convenient way of carrying a bunch of tree with him so that he can access his power in places like the Court where there isn't any greenery, but right now he is /surrounded/ by trees. This is pretty much the last place anybody should want to fight him.

Could be "stand your ground" because that's what animals do in dominance-struggle situations. Or because that's going to be the best way of dealing with however he's going to react to this. Or because it would be the funniest thing she could do in this situation. Or because Coyote gave his word that no harm would come to her and will rescue her if absolutely necessary. Probably all of the above.

Not necessarily the end; the role of narrator-protagonist could shift to Kat. (Though there might be some difficulties there; Kat has no close ties with many of the threads, such as Zimmy and Gamma or Parley and Smith, hasn't been invited into Gillitie Wood, etc.)

I don't think Coyote would intentionally harm Annie, in fact when he first invited her I believe he made a promise to the contrary. I think he wants her to show Ysengrin that he cannot intimidate everyone, when he said "stand your ground" I thats where my suspicions went.
