guys, i think i know what happened... deigo killed jeanne and threw her body into the river. the robots all feel guilty because she died and they could have saved her but that would have required fighting their creator.
so, they did nothing.

Jeanne's in love with Sir Young I assume, who is away at training I'm sure. Diego "loves" Jeanne, and tries to console her with little robots that she thinks are toys. She thinks he's just being nice. Now he reveals that he "loves" her, tells her that the little creations are programmed to love her too, and therefore she can forget about Sir Young.
Jeanne reacts pretty appropriately I think. He crossed way over the line to think that he could get her to just forget about the man she loves by showering her with unwanted presents. Her reaction against the "toys" is fitting as well, not only because she now knows what they represent (his attempt to ply/buy her) but also because perhaps she is creeped out by the idea that he made all these little creatures infatuated with her the way he clearly is.
Note to Diego: True love cannot be programmed.

Well now, looks like my initial interpretation wasn't so far off after all.
Okay, who is "he"? Would that be Sir Young?

Oh god, how cruel. I feel pity for Diego and his creations alike. Wrecked, and they have some.. sense of self-being. They are alive. Oh, Jeanne, what you do in your anger.
Who is it that she needn't think about? Sir Young, perhaps? Maybe as with Surma and Eglamore, there is some sort of training which takes him away. Or perhaps Jeanne's lover remained on the other side and for some reason she couldn't join him.
This is a page of sadness.

Here's another theory. Diego threatens Jeanne with something horrible such as a hoard of little robots trying to "love" her by coming after her going "Mama! Mama!" and she flees in terror, and runs right over the edge of the ravine to escape them. ...though it still wouldn't explain why her soul is unique in that the psychopomps can't reach her. Sigh, I guess we'll just have to wait to see how the story unfolds...

I think "he" is likely Sir Young, off to training like Eglamore was when Surma was talking to Anya about missing him. And she's probably the first medium, in which case she'd also be like Surma in that no one could take her across. Annie might eventually have to do it herself. Still, I wonder what the spirit-world cut on the face was for, and who made it so she can't cross the river. I'm pretty sure we're going to be finding out soon, though.

It also occurs to me that Diego really cares about her well-being. He thinks on this page, if he tells her that he loves her, that it will make her happy. Just as he thinks that the toys might cheer her up and soothe her worries. He is terribly misguided, but it's heart-wrecking how well-intentioned it seems. I really wonder what he'll do after this incident, whether it might change him and how.

I don't think so, given what we saw the first time we went to Jeanne's Tomb. I think Reynardine's analysis of the situation down there is spot on. It was Diego who did nothing, and he has programmed the Robots to emphasize this fact. As for Jeanne's current situation, I imagine she has feelings for someone/something in the forest. Its hard to tell who, since the only resident we know is....Coyote. This is largely baseless, but I imagine that Jeanne died trying to cross the Annan Waters to get to this particular person. Nothing can cross physically, and her death in the waters made it so that her spirit cannot cross over either (hence the Psychopomps inability to reach her). Perhaps her death was a catalyst for the creation of the bridge, as well (this last bit, I am pretty sure, has been refuted in the comic but I can't recall exactly where so I am posting it anyways, since I like it).

Still, I wonder what the spirit-world cut on the face was for, and who made it so she can't cross the river. I gave this some thought recently. I recalled the incident with Zimmy, and Gamma's ability and habit of gopping the "nobodies". I am thinking that perhaps Jeanne wasn't out to hurt Annie. Perhaps she merely cut her to see if she could reach and affect her. If it was because of Annie that she could even cross the river, maybe it's only Annie that she can physically interact with - stuck as she is. Then again, Muut warned Annie - be thankful she cannot cross the river. Also, I'm not sure if Jeanne's final pose in that scene was one for attack, it's hard for me to tell.

The way Jeanne is curled into that window seat makes me think she's trapped inside at the Court and Diego is her keeper. She practically has her face smushed up against the glass, very caged bird, and "this prison of stone and glass"? I don't think she's from this side of the river, and whatever's keeping her locked up in the Court is strong enough to keep her there into the afterlife.

This makes a lot of sense, given that whatever the robots are showing Annie and Kat in this chapter is cause for kingbot to be "sad" and has put the "robot society in turmoil" www.gunnerkrigg.com/archive_page.php?comicID=647I wonder if "he" might be somebody on the forest side, not on the court side. Which would complicate things, I suppose, knowing as we do that Sir Young plays some part here, or at least does so in the eyes of Diego/the robots. But given how Diego went automatically from "you don't need the animals/trees of the forest because I'll make you toys" to "you don't need to think of him," and Jeanne's feelings about the forest as we know them, it's worth considering.

Seeing her in rage gives me the thought that Jack was lucky that Rey scared him off in the earlier chapter before Carver got angry. So she liked/loved/missed someone else who´s away/missing/dead. He was probably better looking then Diego but that´s not hard (mean i know, but Rey´s prediction was 100%,so...). I love the first and last panel. You just see that he hit a nerve when he spoke of *him*. It didn´t seem to be only about the forgetting part. Of cource i can be wrong, i am probably. The last panel... dammit, a Bitch slap would have been nicer to Diego then destrying his creations he give her to cheer her up. I find this flash-back really got so far, you see both sides: Diego who cares for and love Jeannne and Jeanne who feels like being in a prison and annoyed by Diegos trys to approch her. It´s easy to think that Diego is a creepy stalker or that Jeanne is a heartless bitch, but truth is both are humans (in Jeannes case i´m not that sure at all) with faults, misunderstandings and alot of hurt (Jeanne) and unsure (Diego) feelings. No wonder the situation escalated. The real victim is neither Diego nor Jeanne, it´s the robot or better all robots in the court who are programmed to love and worship someone who hates/dislikes them and even destroys them.

here's a theory no one else has posited yet. Jeanne is in a long, flowing white dress. Diego is making her toys to show his love for her. She doesn't need to think of 'Him'... Perhaps 'He' is a lover that is not just away... But a lover who is dead. And recently. Perhaps, even more tragically, on the day of their wedding. Diego may just be trying to help her move on... and hopefully in his direction... and Jeanne isn't ready to move on. This despair and rage may be what finally drives her over the edge... and perhaps, in more ways than one.

perhaps what has the robots in toil is the fact that they were programmed to love Jeanne, unconditionally from what we've seen, and this memory shows that she cared nothing about them, hated them even, and this has them greatly conflicted.

This is... A real powerful page. I think Jeanne probly is a soldier or some kinda warrior. Mebbe why she was attracted to (sir young?) in the first place. As to why she can't cross, I think that since mediums don't neccesarily "believe" in any one psychopomp, having met them, they require another medium to take them through. Since Jeanne was probably the first, and maybe in mourning, she may not have had anyone to bring her across, especially from such a powerful place as the bridge.

JEANNE LOVES YSENGRIN! You heard it here first!
ITEM: Jeanne is in love with someone who is forever unreachable. We know this, because if it was just Sir Young or some guy who was off on training for a while, Diego wouldn't have the balls to tell her to get over it.
ITEM: Jeanne is incredibly cut up about the Forest and the Court parting ways.
ITEM: Jeanne's role in the narrative is to represent humanity's yearning for nature and wild things and romance and all the other nice things that Progress frowns on.
ITEM: Jeanne's ghost is trapped on the Court side of the Annan Waters, gazing at the forest but forever unable to cross
ITEM: Ysengrin is wearing his angry pants ALL THE TIME, he hates the Court, and he especially hates high tech things from the Court. Dude must be really really monumentally really ticked off about something big that happened to him back in the past.
Conclusion: Jeanne and Yssy, sitting in a tree, K I S S I N G

Someone's PMSing.
Maybe him is Coyote. Just because that's the only other "him" mentioned.
I feel sad for everyone on this page, especially the robots on the shelf.
I don't think Sir Young would be away training on the other side of the forest. If anything, he'd be on the other side of the court. We know that he's the official "protector" of the court, and that his title and armor and stuff got handed down until ol' Eglamore got it.

Maybe this was the first time Diego confessed his feelings? Last page in the last panel he tells her that he loves her and this drives her from numb sadness into innocent-robot-destroying-mode. This would make that moment even more important I guess, since it could be the last time they were talking with each other. And when Jeanne died (maybe of some illness?) Diego may deeply regreted that he gave up. The statement 'she died and we did nothing' could mean that he didn't had the guts to talk to her even when she was dieing.
