She is beautiful indeed. And sad. What a lovely image she makes, framed in the window in a that white dress. No wonder Diego idolized her. It makes me sad, knowing this ends in her tragic death.

I cannot be the only one who finds it incredibly creepy that he is giving her a robot with a camera in it to keep in her room. At least I assume it is her room, since she is hanging out there and the shelf is full of all the other little robots he made for her.

First observation: Uh...Jeanne? You may want to wear thicker clothes if you plan on sitting in front of a light source like that...Just sayin'....
Second observation: Check out that last panel. I guess he brings her a lot of little bots.
Third observation: Her sword rests by the window sill. Always on hand?
Fourth observation: What's with the collar? Just seems odd.

They remind me of Annie and Kat. The big-nosed engineer and the stoic girl.
And yes, she is beautiful.

I cannot be the only one who finds it incredibly creepy that he is giving her a robot with a camera in it to keep in her room. I felt the same way. But then I thought that this is a memory we're seeing, not a movie. Someone said it in Monday's thread, but, it's possible that any robot can recall memories in such a fashion. What seems more remarkable to me is that this robot has the ability to -project- memories, not capture them.

Dang, are all those figurines from Diego? That seems just a little obsessive.

Man, these two are turning out way different from what I assumed way back when. I thought Jeanne was somber and serious and Diego was longing and timid, borderline pathetic. But the reality looks like they've both taken steps in opposite directions from that point; Jeanne is melancholic and Diego is happy and eager to please her.

I may be way off base here, but Jeanne looks much younger than Diego. Maybe he's making her so many toys because something bad happened to her parents who were his friends, and he feels responsible (and then later something, maybe the same thing, happens to her, and that's where the "we did nothing" comes from).

Yay it's Jeanne! And she's awesome! And French!
I really like the international cast we're getting in this comic.

I get the feeling that she want's to get away from the Court but can't. That she is somehow bound to it. Would make sense to the fact that Muut thought she could not cross the river.

Now that's one very shiny, flowing and long dress Jeanne is wearing there. Cliché association: it looks like a river. Can't help myself but think she might be nobility, maybe even royalty ("normal people" don't wear clothes like that, unless it's their wedding).
Up until now I thought Rey might have been right, and Diego's feelings towards Jeanne might be unrequited. But today's comic shows that she's at least not actively rejecting him. She even keeps all the little toys he gives her in a prominent place on that shelf.

I noticed that too. Jeanne looks almost like a teenager with her build and face, whereas Diego looks practically middle-aged. It's probably just because she's pretty and youthful and he's somewhat less attractive, but still, it did make me reconsider whether he was actually amorous toward her instead of just protective like a really devoted father figure. At this point I believe he had romantic desires for her but I want to go back and check how conclusive the evidence we have that Diego actually saw her as a potential lover. I am especially interested in the robots' reactions toward Jeanne's picture, and maybe also comparing that to Kat who is unambiguously an object of romance for them.

The loose fit of it makes me wonder if this isn't something more like a simple outfit you'd wear around the house where no one can see you. And we already have pictures of Jeanne in finery. She obviously held some sort of position (hence the sword).

While we are making wild guesses... Jeanne and Jones are quite close etymologically. In fact, the only difference between the two is the colour of their eyes.
What if she didn't die so much as "kill" her magical side, her 'soul' in some experiment. And that is why it can't cross over?
edit: Actually, Jeanne has a much more distinct jawline. But there are still quite a few similarities between the two.

I am not sure what time period Deigo and Jeanne were around in, but historically a situation like a 30-year-old man and a teenaged girl being married was not so frowned upon. So even if there is a big age gap it would not be so weird for Diego to be romantically interested in Jeanne. I still so no evidence that she feels the same though.
Someone mentioned in the last page's thread that the relationship between them seems to resemble that of Dr Disaster and Jones. Remember how Jones didn't actively reject Randy, but thanked him for the flowers and took them. Even watched a movie with him later, however she did not seem to be romantically interested in him at all.
I love the way different generations mirror each other in this comic!

And even my use of the word "teenager" reflects a 20th/21st century bias, doesn't it?

Not necessarily something to do with her parents, but something tragic has obviously happened that's broken her heart. Parents, a friend, a lover, a pet (no, that would just descend into bathos so scratch that), but something big and so terrible it broke her. Which means our view of Diego might be a bit unfairly coloured by Reynardine's comments from a few chapters back. So far we've seen Diego as a hapless and hopeless suitor, but perhaps instead (or as well) he's a friend trying and failing to cheer up someone who's suffered an unimaginable loss.

Jeanne looks sad... but I'm not sure where you guys are getting that she looks "broken" or that she's suffered "unimaginable loss".
I mean I'm not saying she hasn't. I'm saying that you can't tell -that- much from her face. To me she just looks like what Diego said: sad.
I personally advise against hyperbole until we know something more.

I'm glad that Jeanne is being polite - it doesn't seem like she's interested in the figurines Diego is giving her. Whether that's because she's honestly disinterested in the little machines or because her sadness has sapped her interest remains to be seen.

Maybe I missed something, but has it ever been more than guessed that Diego had romantic interest in Jeanne? Is it possible that he felt a different kind of love for Jeanne, more paternal or protective maybe? He does seem a lot older than her here. The grief we have felt from him could have been that of losing a daughter or something along those lines. I could just be way off though, some of jeannes dialogue does hint at maybe more dismissing of his love. Can't wait to see how this plays out

It is a guess Rey made. He called Jeanne "a woman he [Diego] loved from afar". We'll have to see if this is how it really was. At least the "afar" doesn't seem to be right. (except in a metaphorical way maybe) Paternal love sounds plausible. So far, none of the characters* really seem to know anything and only make assumptions. For example: Kat said the shrine was no tomb. She can't really know that - it might indeed be her tomb. Maybe she should take a look behind the painting. However, the characters rarely seem to make incorrect assumptions. *except the robots maybe?
