Oh Kat.Less worrying and more common sense and applied logic, eh William?

It's a laser cow conspiracy. They're still working on the whole "flawlessly replace the randomly kidnapped members of the population" bit.

I think Kat is in for a surprise.
Speculation: The "ghost" kidnapping people is one of the Shadow Men who was left behind in the court, and who for some reason grew stronger over time.

I love how Genre savvy Tom is. Of course, now that he's laid it out like that, it's less likely that this is a trick, innit?

I'd say kat is about to find herself somewhere she doesn't want to be.

Kat's reaction is so great.
And yeah, now that the characters themselves think it's a trick by the adults, it makes me more suspicious that it's just a red herring.

This seems well thought out. I don't see how anything could possibly go wrong.

You know, most girls wouldn't get that excited about get whisked off by their "Uncle Jimmy".
I mean, he doesn't even look like a bird.

This seems well thought out. I don't see how anything could possibly go wrong. And now that someone has said that, THEY ARE ALL DOOMED. =D And agreed-- I love how Genre Savvy the characters are. Plus, the characters thinking it's a trick makes it more likely that it's something supernatural and/or laser cow at work instead, which personally I find more entertaining. ;D

Hey, Winsbury's doing something besides being an ass and "not" going out with Janet. Good for him.
Kat is obviously not as Genre Savvy as the rest of them. Never volunteer for things, Kat!
If it's something supernatural, we have the problem of why the sensible adults all buggered off and left them with Marcia (who is probably hiding under her bed right now).

I love how Genre savvy Tom is. I believe you mean William. Anyway, there is no period after Matt's "yeah"! And there is no space in "Mr.Eglamore"! So many mispunctuations, my Gosh! The comic is ruined!

Kat: Master of subtlety.
Also, now that the kids have decided the ghost isn't real, we know it is real, because if they were right the rest of the chapter would be boring. Hooray for metalogic?

I love how Genre savvy Tom is. I believe you mean William. I was referring to the Author Thomas Siddell and his understanding of and ability to adapt and subvert common cliches in writing, but FINE, I guess I was referring to young William. No hard feelings.

Ahhh yes TV Tropes. Guarenteed to make you go poof faster than saying my name. I wonder if Kat can be blinked back? Or what if it WAS a prank and someone has stuck there nose into this?

I'm gonna guess right now that the last people left are Annie... and Jack.

Man... Kat has too quickly forgotten about the creep she had claimed she'd protect Annie from. A necessary precondition to protect Annie: Don't get separated from Annie!
Of course I'm much more worried about Kat becoming bait than about Annie's own sake.

Maybe this is some sort of double bluff on Tom's part and that's exactly what's going on? ;D
Anyway, does anyone else think Jack either has something to do with this or thinks Annie does?

Kat is hilarious in that last panel.
I am not going to join the speculation on what is really going on I think, because I have no idea at all and would rather just sit back and wait for things to unfold!

If it's something supernatural, we have the problem of why the sensible adults all buggered off and left them with Marcia (who is probably hiding under her bed right now). Which concerns me as well; the faculty are usually far more able than that. (One reason, I suspect, why both the children in the story and we ourselves considered the practical joke theory as the most likely explanation.) Unless (which probably belongs to Wild Speculations) they're deliberately abandoning the children to the ghost as part of some dark plan - maybe as annual sacrifices to keep the Court thriving.

What if it's Annie who is taken away next (by whoever it is who is kidnapping them) by the way: Her stone does the background distortion thing in the second-to-last panel.

Tom, in comic 430: "I forgot to include a character that says "Uh, I don't think that's such a good idea", at every juncture."

What if it's Annie who is taken away next (by whoever it is who is kidnapping them) Then she can send messages via her blinker stone. The trouble would be if both got taken. My theory is that it is some supernatural being, working in cahoots with the teachers.

Kaaaaat! I love how Genre savvy Tom is. Of course, now that he's laid it out like that, it's less likely that this is a trick, innit? See, ye too, genre savvey now. You know, most girls wouldn't get that excited about get whisked off by their "Uncle Jimmy". I mean, he doesn't even look like a bird. But he got a tattoo! Plus, the characters thinking it's a trick makes it more likely that it's something supernatural and/or laser cow at work instead, which personally I find more entertaining. ;D By the way. Laser cows aren't anywhere in sight any more. So the kids can't just ask them what they saw. Meaning, someone sent them away. And i doubt Mr. Young's ghost did this...

Kat: Master of subtlety. Also, now that the kids have decided the ghost isn't real, we know it is real, because if they were right the rest of the chapter would be boring. Hooray for metalogic? The other bit of meta-logic is that while all this seems to fit, Annie has been shown not to be an objective reasoner when it comes to "that sounds like something Mr. Eglamore would do". Which makes me shift into high-gear trying to think of what could be being glossed over due to lazy thinking. Eighty-four's shadowman theory is good- they're surrounded by decommissioned "Dogs", which were used as shadow delivery systems in unhappier times. Could also be one of the decommissioned Forest devices itself. If you go go less Wild, that makes a kind of sense- and this is a training exercise against Forest agents that have had their teeth pulled so they present a threat to be overcome but not a danger.

I think that it's something that hasn't been mentioned in either the comic -or- the forums! Just because I want to be vague, and because I think Tom is always two steps ahead of us forum-goers, even though the comics are made 3 months in advance of when we get to discuss them. He's just that clever.
Given that it's now pretty much guaranteed that it's not Eglamore or a ghost, I reckon that Kat will get taken and Annie will suddenly look panicked and say "I can't feel my stone!". The plan is clearly not going to work.
