Hm. You're quick.
I suppose it could've been expected that he'd freak at their sudden disappearance.

Maybe Jones isn't so indifferent about the good doctor.

I don't think Randy's the only one that's smitten...

Hahahah Maybe Jones isn't so indifferent about the good doctor. Or maybe she's just feigning personal interest in his sci-fi obsession as a courtesy. My theory is that she's incapable of emotions, but if that's the case, it's good to see that she's aware of those of others and is willing to acknowledge them. Perhaps she even pities (as much as she can pity) Randy for being in love with a being that can never, ever love him back.

Apparently I am under-educated on certain topics. Today's comic goes over my head, perhaps because I've never heard of The Tingler or this Price guy.

I've never heard of The Tingler or this Price guy. Price was a horror movie and radio actor, prominent in the 40s-60s. Tall figure (6'4"), aristocratic face. Classicaly trained. For many, his voice was the horror movie voice. His is the voice at the end of Jackson's Thriller. [5:15] His laugh, heard at the end of the Thriller narration, is The. Classic. Evil. Laugh. He also narrated Tim Burton's stop-motion tribute to him. === I've never seen The Tingler, but the IMDB description suggests it may well be plot-relevant. The trivia page notes this was the first film to portray an LSD trip, and that "This film is listed among The 100 Most Amusingly Bad Movies Ever Made in Golden Raspberry Award founder John Wilson's book THE OFFICIAL RAZZIE® MOVIE GUIDE." Also note that in its theatrical release, this movie attempted some virtual reality gimmicks, including buzzers in every seat to startle the audience at appropriate moments. It is almost certainly a hit with Randy.

I haven't seen "The Tingler", but I've read about it. Apparently, it involved a discovery that if people don't scream when they're scared, it causes their backbone to mutate into a giant centipede-like monster which then tears out of them and goes off wreaking havoc; needless to say, the publicists used this to encourage the audience to scream like anything during the movie.

My seat doesn't have a built-in "tingler". I'm disappointed

So I'm guessing that what Jones is doing here is just an act of courtesy, as she hasn't shown any emotions yet, and, despite her lack of emotions, has something going on with Mr. Eglamore.
perhaps we shall see more in the next chapter? (of which we have to wait until monday for because of the chapter title page)

How long 'til someone who's seen The Tingler speculates that the bonus page is a clue that Jack's spine will go animate? Oh, crud ... wrecked that curve.

I think something we have to consider here is that even though Dr. Disaster is smitten with Jones, and she (apparently) doesn't return the feelings, they could still be -friends-, and Jones might like him just fine in that way.
I think most guys probably have a story of some hot girl that they had a thing for but she didn't return the feeling so they remained friends. I know I do. (Only in my case, she told me at the end of my senior year that she did in fact have feelings for me too, but she was too shy to say so at the time... this was just before she went off to Brown University... alas. But enough about me.)

pepoluan: How very subtle of you... Alas, I also completely support that theory. I saw the Tingler once, a few years ago, although since it wasn't in the theater with the buzzers, it's magic was lost. I wish they made those chairs with every movie, it'd make things a lot more interesting. Maybe if Randy manages to hook one of those crazy seats up, Jones' first emotion in the past little while will be surprise.

Repercussions!Do we have anyone who's actually seen the Tingler? (Besides Tom, natch.) Sort of. My lady loves pretty much anything with Vincent Price; and she also loves really bad 1960s horror and sci-fi movies, which is a pretty good summary of The Tingler. So I can't say I've watched it, but I've been in the house doing other things and having the sound of it inflicted on me - as well as some of the video when I go through the room. And I've come to the conclusion that Mr. Price charged too much to appear in movies: he left them with insufficient money for competent script-writers and nothing for special effects.

A date with Jones.
An explaination.
Something more?
They can all be yours, Randy Disaster, if the Price is right!
...Sorry

If any, The Laugh may be the thing to wake me up... I found that having music as ringtone practically acts as lullaby, sending me even deeper asleep. That said, my fiancee might not be amused...

To see Mr. Price in a more lighthearted capacity, there's the Muppet Show's first Halloween episode, with him as the guest star. A future one had Alice Cooper, and they were both hilarious.
