...Okay I totally did not foresee this. Panel 7, though, seems to change his intentions entirely. Suddenly his whole sense of gaiety is gone. (And no, I did not throw that sentence in just to use 'gaiety' for once )

This will not end well.
I mean, you can even see Annie turning away from him a little. That little trip into Zimmy's head must have messed him up but good.

Annie's expression in panel three is kinda scary.

Now that I look at it again, you're right, aijuan. Comparing Annie's eyes in panel three and panel eight... brr.

It's just her 'happy surprise' face.
The way the background subtly darkens from panel 6 to panel 7 as Jack's mood changes is downright sinister.

Uo oh... he's losing it. Seems like his happy face is just a facade. I agree, this has a lot of not-ending-well potential.
Note how Annie doesn't really answer his question. She only tells him what house Zimmy is in, but not the precise class. Might of course just be that she doesn't remember it exactly herself. Might also be that Jack is seriously creeping her out.

Going by the motion lines in the last panel, I'd say he's creeping her out.

Hmm... not the immediate flip-out into "WTF HAPPENED UP THERE?!" that I was hoping for, but still in line with my basic expectations. Jack didn't handle his trip to sunny Birmingham very well. I wonder if he saw something worse than the nobodies...

You know, back in the [593] thread, Per totally called this out (see 3 rd page of that thread). Who else thinks it looks like Jack hasn't been sleeping..? At all. Like someone else we know... I called that out in the [593] thread. But I *totally* did not foresee this... Jack the Tripper becoming Jack the Ripper (credit for the names: Jimbobbowilly) Going by the motion lines in the last panel, I'd say he's creeping her out. Indeed. Notice also Annie's eyebrows and mouthline. From a half-smile half-surprise in panel 3 to become a concerned-eyebrows half-frown in the last panel. Jack is kind of freaking me out now. I'm scared You and me, bro. You and me. I shudder to think of what's going to happen next. Rey seems all set to sneak attack Jack. I do hope that -- if Jack really becomes the ripper -- Rey will again jump to Annie's protection. Why am I feeling an anxiety attack, and a sense of dread in my heart?

Here's something creepy enough to notice, for those who might not have detected this.
Jack seems to be advancing on her.
In the third panel of 593, Jack comes down out of the corridor that Annie walked past on her left in panel 1. The hall ends in a T, and Annie was going to the right when Jack called her. She pushed Reynardine ahead of her, not behind, and turned around in the direction she had come from to talk to Jack. So Annie is at the corner, Jack's behind her relative to the direction that Annie had come, and Reynardine is around the corner, by panel 5 of that page.
Now on the next page, panel 1, Jack is at the corner. By panel 2, he has passed the corner (meaning Reynardine is now behind/beside him without his noticing), and Annie has been driven back to the wall at the head of the T. I believe that the motion lines in the last panel aren't from Annie turning her head at what Jack said, but actually from Annie being cornered/pressed up against the wall by Jack's unyielding approach.
If I'm reading the visual cues right, then Jack is being considerably more creepy than I'd realized, before I started to try to figure out exactly how Reynardine got behind him.

Casey: I really can't see the progression, but if that's true... Jack's a lot more twisted than I thought he was... And Jack's 'grin' on panel 2 now becomes really diabolical...

My brother had an interesting idea- that Jack's experience in ZimCity* has turned him against Chester in a big way, and he's going to end up being like the guy Eglamore sucker-punched in Ties, eventually leading to a more general anti-etheric sentiment in the Court.
*Officially the best name for Zimmy's world (I didn't make it up)

Jack looks/seems a lot older (even though I don't think it's actually been that long?), I mean compare this Jack: www.gunnerkrigg.com/archive_page.php?comicID=456to the Jack in today's page. I think the experience in ZimCity (LAUGHING ON LINE clever whoever thought it up) left him a more sombre and sinister person

You know, revisiting the Power Station chapter, especially page [460], I can't help wondering if there's a part of Jack's mind/soul/spirit/whatever is left behind in Zimmy's mindNotice panel 3 on that page.

Maybe Jack's exploring is because he apparently doesn't sleep much at night, and he had the same thing Zimmy has. Thus he just wants to speak to someone with the same issues and his change in expression came about as a side effect of whatever people who hang around in Grin City have? ¬_¬"

It looks as if he's trying to appear to be normal and casual and failing miserably because he forgot what being normal is like. It could just be a really traumatic experience, though; remember, Jack doesn't know anything about Zimmy's powers at all, so all he knows is that he was suddenly teleported to some kind of horrible hellscape (home of the Balti, est. population one million) where freaky things happened to him and then he was suddenly teleported back. That's not to say he /hasn't/ been infected with horrible creeping whatever, but it isn't necessary to explain his condition.

I'm thinking that pepoluan appears to be a little more correct than most of you would assume. If you look to page 471, he isn't exactly looking so great when you see him in the last panel there. You don't get the results of lack of sleep after only about fifteen minutes, but as for having a piece of him stolen away, there's not exactly any references as to 'progression speed'. Or maybe he's got it now too, like Rasselas said. Whatever's affecting him, it's not sleep deprivation.

Tom is the master of facial expressions. All of Annie's echoed what I was feeling at the same time Panel 3: Oh ho, he likes Kat. Panel 5: Wait...does he like Zimmy? What the... Panel 8: Ok, what's going on? You're a little creepy now. Granted in panel 5 her face is blank, but it still gives off 'dubbya tee eff' vibes.
Options now are: 1. ZimCity gave Jack the willies and he's having a hard time recovering. 2. Part of Jack got stuck in ZimCity. 3. Jack's becoming like Zimmy (linked to 2).
I'm gonna go with 1. at the moment, just because there's no evidence to suggest the other two.

Since everyone's covering poor ol' Jack, I'm going to cover something else.
How about that expression on Annie's face when she thinks he's asking about Kat.
That's definitely a "Squee, Kat has an admirer!" expression.

It's also possible that Jack was stuck in Zimmingham for a very long time. Remember, for the ones who didn't get teleported, it didn't feel like any time had passed. This is not utterly likely, but hey.
However, the question to ask is what did he see? Zimmingham is a psychologically twisted plane, it might have thrust him into an unresolved personal matter of some sort, or drawn upon his psychological issues to scare and hurt him. Perhaps that's how he left a part of him inside, some unfinished business in Zimmingham. Perhaps, *gasp*, he's looking to go back in.
