Did anyone else notice that their eyes change from red to green? Not just from last page to this page, but in the first panel the eyes are red, they go browny/beige when Donny turns them off, and when they come back on they're green.
I wonder if that's significant?

I figure it's because they don't have to stop the kids now. If the kids are going the (to them) right way, they let 'em go and that's green, and if not, they'll stop 'em- red.

I do like that explanation, but what about these guys? Perhaps the 'blocking' there isn't as urgent as in the most recent comic...

Re: the changing light color, if you look at Doorbot back in chapter 12, his eyes change color as well. They're amber when he's telling Annie that she can't enter, then they turn green when he's convinced that she's a robot and he lets her pass. So I bet the blocker bots' lights indicated something similar.
Better rule-breaking through technology. Kat's a chip off the old block.
I'm impressed Donny invented this device in such a small package. Have keyless car door openers even been invented at this point in time?

Perhaps the 'blocking' there isn't as urgent as in the most recent comic... That would make sense - in that comic, they're sort of herding students, diverting them, and mostly they're going in the right way. The eyes turn red when it becomes clear that Surma and the others are trying to go the way that is being guarded.

Ahah, so the mittens' true purpose is at last revealed.
They are powerful weapons for great feats of shoo-ing!

I hope we haven't upset Tom too much lately, in light of his most recent (at this time) comment on the twitter section of the page.

The robots don't seem to heavy do they? Nor do they seem very "intelligent" Indeed they don’t. And yet, the funny thing is – and with “funny” I mean: funny for those of us who once used to be active in the natural language understanding subfield of artificial intelligence which I suppose is just me – that as stupid as those robots may act, creating that dialogue would be well outside of the reach of current AI technology.

I can't help wondering if the robot that said "Ace job, boss" was being sarcastic...

I can't help wondering if the robot that said "Ace job, boss" was being sarcastic... That's a really logical conclusion. But seriously, the only way that the bot could express sarcasm about the situation would be that it knew what happened and decided to just let the kids go out of some kind of sense of compassion.

Where as building robots that are aware of their orientation so that they cannot be fooled by Donald's trick, or Annie's claim that she's a robot is fairly trivial. It is indeed strange for robot to fail to notice it has changed orientation, since orientation is so central to figuring out where to move. Gunnerkrigg robots are stupid, but they have a very human stupidity to them.

Yes, but if they didn't investigate, there'd be far less story.

How about if that robot figured it out just a moment too late - but ahead of the boss, who is supposed to be in charge? But I was just wondering, not asserting.
