Boring Doors ++
I wonder why he came back out at all. x.x
Apparently not all the robots are the same. I rather like Mr Roboto.
Hehe. He reminds me of the kind of guy that would yell 'Dang kids, get off my lawn!"
I also notice a lack of wings. The door reminds me of the 'NO spare robots part' door in the Library, as well.

I think I'll call him Grumpybot. ;D
I like how his eyes are yellow when he's querying Annie, and then turn red when he denies her access.

Grumpybot, that's great. ^^

I can picture a bunch of ancient, rusty robots back in a smoke filled room hunkered over a table playing cards and gambling, with one lone light bulb hanging above the table.
Grumpybot is the bouncer.

And the two Robot-like robots would be waiters. Or maybe dealers.
Perhaps the reason the robots don't want to be seen is that they're some kind of refugees, hiding at Gunnerkrigg. I don't know from what, but probably someone the faculty dislikes.

I got a big laugh out of the "boring door" sign. Boy, they really seem to like putting misleading labels up at Gunnerkrigg.
The "robots only" bit makes me suspect that in this story, Annie and Kat will somehow disguise themselves as robots to get into that room and find out just what the robots are doing there (Kat could easily whip up a couple of robot outfits, I'm certain). Maybe the picture on the title page is one of those costumes, in fact (it certainly doesn't resemble the robots that we've seen in this story).
Either that, or they could send Boxbot in, except that: a) he might not feel like it after what Annie said about him a couple of pages back, and b) maybe the other robots don't view the poor little guy as a "proper robot" either.

If robot disguises do not come into play this chapter, I will be sorely disappointed. Good call, Todd.

You know what's really weird? Grumpybot looks exactly like a mechanized version of my uncle. I have to print that page out and show him.

Grumpybot is awsome. Annie and Kat will probably get disguised as robots, but what I hope is that Robot is repaired and he goes in and gets them the information.

I got a big laugh out of the "boring door" sign. Boy, they really seem to like putting misleading labels up at Gunnerkrigg. Kinda reminds me of Terry Pratchett's books, especially in the Discworld with the Auditors of Reality. But then, unlike the Auditors, Annie and Kat are curious and creative. I don't know if they'll dress up as robots--it would be awesome if they did. Maybe Kat'll build a robot, or they'll send in Box Bot!

I bet the Robots are the people who put up ALL the weird signs we've noticed around GC. They seem like the peaceful, childlike, not-naturally-subtle d00ds behind

I'm hoping Kat builds a robot to go spy for them. Or that they do some air-duct crawling.
I bet Boxbot would fit perfectly into an air duct! (But he'd prolly drop the camera...)
(On an aside: hee hee - the cracks in the walls are totally different in each panel. Now that's organic!) (Edit: Not meant as a criticism.)

It's the slight change of viewpoint – you only see the shadows of the cracks, which appear different from different angles.

After looking at the picture of the robot on the title page of this chapter, it seems less likely to me that it's a "robot disguise" for Annie or Kat (if the story does go that way - which still seems feasible), since the way that it's designed, it wouldn't be too compatible for a human. First, the neck is far too long and thin. And second, there's a lot of machinery inside. So it must have some other purpose for the story. (Maybe it's something that the robots in the room behind the "Boring Door" are tending to or waiting upon.)
Though that does not, in itself, rule out the "robot disguise" possibility.

Robots building robots? Sounds like a rebellion to me. I read far too much sci fi, don't I...

I already thought of SHADOW rebellion, but not robot rebellion. Hmmm...
I dunno, though, Montgomery & co see prettywary of humans, and Grumpybot is more of a "scare-off-the-young-whippersnappers" type than a soldier type. Though a lot of the SOEYW type were probably soldier types before they retired.

Robot rebellion? There's a thought.
I'm really curious what they're doing behind the boring door.
Maybe they're building the robots shown on the title page!

Ooh, nice abbreviation. I don't really think these guys are likely to rebel (they don't seem that unhappy about their lot), but I can't shake the "robots are evil" vibe I get from them. Even though one of them uses the word "scarper".

I'll have to have words with whoever says you can't use the word "scarper" and still be evil. It'll just be charming British evil!

You know, after the last story, "Dobranoc, Gamma", this story seems quite lighthearted, and comical.

I think the robots are building more advanced robots; either some form of robotic offspring or perhaps they're making themselves a leader – some kind of robot messiah.

Maybe that's why some of them have wings! They're angel robots, building themselves a king/god!

Yess! A robot moses to lead them out of bondage! "BEEP BEEP let my people go!"
But instead of biblical plagues they'd probably have to settle for turning on all the taps and clogging the drains to flood the bathrooms, or mess with the lights to interrupt classes.
Then it's 40 years of wandering in gillitie wood or something.
Heh.

Woah, suddenly I feel like I've been transported into Questionable Content.
Anyone notice that Grumpybot has the same eyes as Boxbot?

I think the color of the Sentry-Bot's eyes are like a stop light. yellow for possibility of entrance, red for access denied, and presumably green for access granted.
