Is this why the rescue pencil? Did James realize he wouldn't be allowed to accompany Annie?
Will Annie refuse to parley without James? I don't think so, and I don't think James will object to strongly.

TWITCHYARMS! I MISSED YOU SO! He seems so much more...badass in his natural setting. I mean, he was always badass. But the sinister air of him sliding out from behind a tree and scowling just paints him as this calm yet horrifically powerful foe, the pure essence of Mastermind Villainy. Then he talks, and he just becomes a horrifically powerful foe. Whatta guy. He's still in my top 5 favorite characters though. EDIT: On looking at the page again, he didn't slide from behind the tree. HE CAME FROM INSIDE IT. Oh Ysengrin, you weren't just hyperbolizing madly!

I think Jame knew he wouldn't be welcome... that's why he wanted to put Annie in a suit of armor an such... and fits Jones comment that he would like to protect her himself... right?

Hey, it looks like they're walking around a dry riverbed-- Maybe the Annan waters was once a big river?

Hmm... I've just noticed that Ysengrin's right ear is, uh, damaged, I suppose. Might that have something to do with Rey and why he was exiled from Gillitie Wood?

I chuckled when I read Tom's comment.
Annie sure looks to be making a funny face in panel 4. Perhaps she thinks Ysengrin's tree entrance was a bit too much.

i'm willing to bet that the ONLY reason he is letting annie into the forest is because coyote invited her. under his current look he is most likely pissed off that he has to let someone from the court into the woods, but coyote's will must be done.

Oh, I'm sure Y is not entirely happy with the idea of an outsider in the wood.

Actually, as far as Ys' ear goes? I went back to the Fangs of Summertime chapter, and got a good look at him in those frames. (Check his entrance, right after he takes his hood off, and later, when he goes after Annie.) He's got the same damage to his ear. Tom's drawing style may not have shown it quite so much at the time, but a close look shows the same half-ear thing going on. It's just that Tom decided to make that ear a lot more obvious this time around--and now we're noticing it. So this isn't some new wound, but rather an old one. I'll go with Kuraru and agree that it might have something to do with Reynardine and his exile. It just seems too juicy a possibility to ignore. Come to think of it, his "You DARE to take the form of a wolf?!" to Rey in the same chapter has new meaning to me now.

For all we know, GC is situated on an area that was once a giant body of water and was/is being used as a resource for the Court.

While Annie goes off into the woods, more than likely perfectly safe,Eglamore will have to wait for her return, with Y standing there giving him the evil eye.I dont think there will be small talk =)

While obviously Ysengrin wouldn't want Eglamore (or anyone else in the Court) entering the forest, I wonder if Coyote might have also instructed him to keep Eglamore (or anyone else escorting Annie) out.
As I've mentioned before, the evidence so far suggests that Coyote wants Annie to visit him so that he can tell her things - things about either Gunnerkrigg, Reynardine, or both - which would be to his own advantage. He won't lie to her (I assume), but I suspect that the truth he would give her would be slanted. If so, Coyote obviously wouldn't want Eglamore (or any other knowledgeable person from the Court) present to counter his account and inform Annie of the way he's presenting the information. (Annie doesn't quite trust Eglamore, of course - but she doesn't entirely trust Coyote, either.)
Coyote and Ysengrin may well be in agreement, though for different reasons.

Wouldn't it just be so deliciously ironic if Coyote had been building up a reputation for (admittedly tricky) honesty this whole time JUST so he could blow it when something big came along? (anyone who gets that reference gets many, many bonus points).

Casimir, that's probably somewhere in the TV Tropes website as its own trope. Trickily honest people almost always seem to blow it at one critical juncture. Then they'll try to cover themselves later, but by then, the damage is done. I don't think even The Doctor has been immune to that. Or Q from Star Trek. And even Yoda's riddle-speak falls away when he has to explain something more serious. And given how Coyote flubbed up with the Shadow People (by his admission to Annie), he's obviously capable of screwing up every now and then. We just don't know whether this chapter's going to have such a deliciously ironic moment.

You both speak truth, but my phrase was almost a direct quote from one of my favorite series of novels by Steven Brust.
