Hm. Interesting that Rey perks up at the mention of Surma- respect for her creation, perhaps? Anywho, I predict he'll get a soaking soon. (not around for the next few updates) EDIT: looks like this is what Rey's reading.

Very prompt as usual Yin.
In other news, Annie is becoming a miniature Jones. This makes me very happy (no not that way I am not that messed up).
I like Scruffy Rey too. EDIT: looking back, his use of the world "child", his choice of literature, and his scrumpled look make him look like an adorable old man in panel 1.
New question for the chapter; will Surma and Rey's relationship, whatever it was, be explored? Or is this just another passing reference making sure we haven't forgotten?

Is this the first time its been mentioned that Surma made that doll? I ask because my memory is like a butterfly net with the bottom cut out.
It really explains Annie's attachment to it.

Annie's got her own uniform dress suit now. Nice. I like Scruffy Rey too. EDIT: looking back, his use of the world "child", his choice of literature, and his scrumpled look make him look like an adorable old man in panel 1. I wonder how much of that behavior is his normal personality, and how much of it is his attempt to compensate for being stuck in a child's toy and maintain some respect for himself.

Right, tis the first time. This shows well that Rey was very much attached to Surma, also, grubby Rey is funny as hell.

Annie's new medium uniform looks real cool, yeah. It seems to me that Renardine will have to stay in the court (Since he himself said once that he can't leave it), Reynardine and Coyote are double awesome when they're togheter ^_^. Also, I'm expecting that they don't put Reynardine into a washing machine- Well, What's been Rey doing to get so dirty, anyways?-

I've sometimes suspected that the first time Annie told Reynardine to turn his head while she was changing, he said something like, "Oh, that's all right, I don't mind" with too much of a leer - and the next moment found himself at the bottom of the box, facing downward.
I prefer it when Annie's in uniform (even though this is apparently a new one rather than the familiar school one with a tan-colored sweater) - it adds to her calm no-nonsense demeanor. Some of that gets blunted when she's in civvies.

Anyone else hoping the Reynardine-Surma connection is being brought up because we're going to find out more about it this chapter? I can certainly imagine it being one of the questions she'll ask Coyote.

Anyone else hoping the Reynardine-Surma connection is being brought up because we're going to find out more about it this chapter? Definitely, given that many think the red-haired figure in the chapter frontispiece is Surma.

Intriguing. I'm hoping we'll find out a bit about Surma in this chapter.

What if...
... we see Annie get ready to go to the forest with Eglamore as her escort, then as they step onto the bridge, the screen blurs and sways and we flash back to Surma making the exact same trip in days past, talk to Coyote, get the low-down on the Court, do spankies and such, then when she leaves, the screen wobbles again and we see Annie returning to the Court, imbued with new knowledge and new questions.
Edit: And as an additional connection between then and now, Surma encounters an idol, totemic representation or some such of Reynardine, on which she is to later model the wolf toy.

Surma is the Deus-ex Machina to controlling Reyn.

I can't imagine Eglamore accompanying Annie to the forest, at least not willingly - he must take a dim view of her going there after what happened on the bridge. I think that Jones would have to see to it that he (and the rest of the staff) know nothing about Annie's venture.

Some of that gets blunted when she's in civvies. I suspect that part of this may be that Annie tends to spend her down-time among her friends (and Kat in particular), while she tends to spend her time in-uniform with other students and people outside her circle. Annie tends to be much more reserved around other people than when she's among friends.

I hope so. I love little benign foreshadowings of major occurances. Personally, Annie looked most with it when she was wearing that classy trench coat a chapter ago. It was a very in-charge style and it fit her well.

Huh. It may also be that Surma is Reynardine's Banquo.
The -eth suffix indicates third person singular conjugation, e.g. "He drinketh his ale until he can hold no more and must empty his bladder."

The clothes make the man... or woman... or girl? I figure that if you're talking about a specific person, you can just refer to their specific gender.
