So is he (Jack) gonna be a new love interest for Kat? Their interests seem similar enough. Also, "Oh aye?" is the first thing we heard Aly say when he showed up. Coincidence? Or maybe it's one of them parallels! (or maybe it's just a common phrase that doesn't seem common to me 'cause I'm Amurrican.) I also love that Winsbury has Janet's hat but doesn't seem to notice that he's incriminating himself.

(I hadn't caught the significance of the "Oh aye?" comment until you mentioned it, though.) If so, that leaves Annie and Matt as the only children in the group who aren't paired with anyone. As I mentioned before, something about Matt gives me the suspicion that he'd try hitting on Annie - though I still have a hard time imagining Annie returning that interest.

Annie's mine. Out the way.
P.S. Before anyone screams 'Paedo', I'm only a year older than Annie is meant to be.

Well, for some reason we always try to pair people up, it's a human thing... although I agree Willy and Janet look real cute in this page, and that Kat/Jack seems like a possible match...
However, GC is not about kids lives, so if something like that happens, we can expect to be shown only pieces now and then bewteen the real plot...
Let the experiment begin!!!

Either the new love interest, or the obligatory "I like him but not that way" guy who helps establish that it's possible for characters in Gunnerkrigg to like folks who are the appropriate age and gender without wanting to smooch them.

Gunnerkrigg court is multifaceted just like life. Anything that happens is real plot. Not just Annie visiting coyote, those are things that peak interest. Ofcourse things will get more focus than the relationships but they will play a good role as they concern our main charectors.

Oops, my English has, once again, abandoned me in the middle of the battle. I meant to say that GC is not about the kid's love-life, or at least that is not the center of the plot. On a different note, could someone please!!!! take the last pannel with Willy and Janet and insert the "Totally gonna get married" title... it just seems appropiate

You know, this does bring to mind an interesting question: We see William and Janet together, two strong personalities that seem to thrill at keeping this front of Grating at one another. We've got Margo and John, who are the more typical young relationship of smiles, and nerves and blushes. And now we have the presumably comparatively brilliant minds of Kat and Jack... jack, who sneaks out of his room to find a science experiment, and Kat who does NOT get bored in double physics. I can imagine, as is previously mentioned, science projects of their own making for interesting dates. But what does that leave Annie?
What I mean is, We know nothing abut Matt. It's a bit soon to think He'll be crushing over Annie. Annie, without Kat's influence, Would be a different girl than the one we see today. If left to her own devices, she would spend as much time as possible alone, probably due to a lack of friends as she was growing up. She's a girl whose mind leads her toward the esoteric, the strange and unusual. Her life experiences are so drastically different from her classmates, It's not hard to see why there hasn't been more interaction with other students, save the more unusual ones like Ziimmy and Gamma. It's hard for me to imagine a male character complex enough to catch her eye. I also believe it will be some time before we see her start LOOKING at guys in general.
Granted, this is a GREAT deal of analysis for a work of fiction, but this is how my mind works. Annie isn't like the other girls. She's much more likely to view one of the boys as an interesting experiment as a possible companion beyond friend. I don't find her incapable of attraction. I find her unused to the desire for it. She grew up talking with Psychopomps. Not school chums and classmates about shows and music and clothes and, inevitably, boys. It will be very interesting to see where this goes, but that's what I thought when I first discovered this rare diamond among the thousands of webcomics out there. And I could be completely wrong about Annie. We'll see as things go.

Fuzzyone, I sgree with you. But don't underestimate Annie's ability to grow and change. There won't be a romatic relationship with Matt jet, that's for sure, but I think our little heroine will gain a bit of experience in "How to be around poeple of the same age" in this chapter. Getting closer to a "normal girl" (with strange things happening around her on occassion) one step at a time.

I don't want to see Annie become that much of a "normal girl", though - her unusual qualities are what make her so much fun.
I *have* noticed that the only characters yet who've been revealed as interested in Annie in that kind of way (Mort and maybe Reynardine) are etheric beings (which doesn't surprise me in the least).

and ofcourse Coyote doesnt sneak a sniff up just any willy nilly female. Annie can still develop her emotions and the parts of her that she's left ungrown and still retain her unusual traits. Leaving Al and Kat in the library to talk was one of her rare...erm..moments when she was hesitant and not sure of the next 10 steps ahead of her. O and I shouldnt have been surprised that this chapter isnt jack and Margo's initial appearance {is that matt?}. Infact iam sure if we check out the shots where we see the class, we'll find them again, and others. edited : meant to say the linked sentence as a negative.

Hehe its nice to remember how those two were checking each other out in their battle suits [last panel of "Dr disaster time"]
and i should really reread the comic again, iam forgoting the important little things!
edit
O and i just noticed Tom's attention to detail. If you look behind them in the last panel, you'll notice just a hint of the lights from the factories lights and fires.

I noticed Annie kept her hair tucked into her jacket from when we first see her in this chapter on page 444 until page 451. Most people with long hair (that I know anyway) move their hair outside of the jacket after putting it on like Margo must have done. I wonder why she would do this?

So I'm going to revive this old and dead thread to point out that Jack's hand in panel 3 is a bit awkward

Heh. Winsbury's playing it cool, but seems to have forgotten that he's holding Janet's hat for her.
Pray they don't notice!
