Questions to whoever feels like answering.
« Thread Started on Feb 1, 2007, 7:01pm »

Not sure if this work, but I would like to use this thread to ask direct questions to Tom. Questions should be related to his art and/or to this forum.

Maybe some rules should apply. All members please bear in mind that asking a question does not mean Tom is obliged to answer. Should this thread get out of hand, Tom can delete it at any time.

Tom, 1st question: how do you like the way the forum develops?

I'll try and answer questions you might have. I won't be giving anything away pertaining to the plot of the comic though.

Yes. I'm very pleased with how the forum has come along so far.

How is being a part of Project Wonderful working out? The ads were up to about 60 cents a few days ago, but they seem to have gone back down now.

It's alright I guess. I figure only really popular comics see a good amount of revenue from their ads, but that's to be expected. I'm not sure why my ads jumped to .60 the other day, but it seemed to coincide with me getting over 100 comments, so pageviews were up.

Who do you think would be the best person to voice Reynardine, if the question was ever to arise? How much time do you spend on each comic, from blank paper to all done?

To Tom: Did you come up with the characters of Zimmy and Gamma before you came up with Gunnerkrigg Court and Annie? I'm asking this because the picture of Zimmy and Gamma at Deviant Art was dated 2003, two years before the webcomic began.

Do you have a general idea of where this story is going or are you pretty much winging it as you go along?

How much wood would a wood-chuck chuck if a wood-chuck could chuck wood?

How long do you expect/want GC to last?

Have you ever seen A.I, the Steven Spielberg movie? You know the supertoy teddybear the main character has? That's how I imagine Reynardine's voice.

That's creepy. I imagined it a lot more dignified and saucy.

Yup. Ol' Zimmy and Gamma have been around for a very long time but I have never doen anything with them. Zimmy has been around longer than Gamma too, and she used to look very different. I was going to do a comic with them once called Alphabet Soup and I might get back to it one day.

The woodchuck has since passed on. He chucked an insufficient amount of wood.

I'd like to keep GC going for a long time, however I don't see it as being my life's work.

No I never went to art school. I did do art in school but I hated it. After school I had a choice of going to university for art or computers, and I chose to get my degree in computers. I used my free time to draw.

Did you base any of the characters on anyone in particular or were they just made up of whatever your imagination's made of (silk, maybe?)?

A lot of people choose blue, you know. Very popular. Somewhere around 50% of people like it best, I think I once read. But hey, you know what they say about statistics.

Dear Tom. Er, Mr. Siddell...

I've seen lots of mentions of your art being featured in different parts of the web, but all I could find was your "Digital Hills" site. Could you direct me to the Deviant Art site I've heard so much about?

Tom: how much fun are you having reading our speculations about the plots? I'm guessing lots.

The characters aren't really based on anyone in particular.
However, when I first drew Annie I was also drawing Kirie Goshima from Uzumaki and they still look a lot alike.

I enjoy reading all the speculations a great deal. It's especially cool when someone comes close to the truth because it makes me feel cool.

Thank you. Even if there aren't that many things different from Digital Hills, the little bits are still neat. I've been wanting to see that early picture of Zimmy for a while now.

Edit: Plus, the author commentary is always fun to read.
