And there's your classic science vs. etherial tenet argument.

PermalinkOnce it's live on the main site, of course. "It just works" explains enough to use something - it's if you want to improve it you need something more concrete.

Who was it who predicted the blinker stone would come out? Whoever it was, kudos.
Also, I like how now Rey and Kat are acting out exactly what Jones described; the differences betwixt etherial tenet and science. Wonder how that dynamic will play out in the end.

I still want to know what the power plug in the last strip connects to... ;D

So, essentially, the blinker stone is a Green Lantern Power Ring. In blackest night indeed.
All this shenanigans, I forgot about who gave Annie the stone. I guess Mort's posting is only to that specific locality of the Court (study rooms).
Any Science sufficiently advanced would be indistinguishable from Magic. I guess sometimes sticking too close to that tenet can be a dangerous thing, trying to infer the science behind magic.

"It behaves that way because she wills it so." is actually a very great explanation. I wish more things could be explained that way.

Mudmaniac, Mort sent it to Annie via Muut. That was when she fell off the bridge.

maybe because I have been playing 4e D&D, but the way they are operating as a group reminds me of am adventuring group... in fact, with a little modifications to the rules to fit it, I think the court would be a great setting for a campaign or at least an adventure.

Ewww 4e....
Jokes of course. I haven't played 4e myself, but looking at what I can so far I'm probably going to be sticking to 3.5. Though I think I will consider writing a GC adventure - or at least draft up a campaign setting.

There's a preview available. It showcases some of the new rules and classes and stuff, and has a sample adventure.

I am actually enjoying 4e more then 3.5. It gets rid of a lot of needlessly complex stuff and fixes plenty of problems. Jabor if you are not sure you want to commit to buying the new books I would at least suggest picking up the preview to see if you like it. (just to give the most obvious plus side to 4e...low level characters do not suck)

I have checked out the preview, and I will say I much prefer the wealth of material already available for 3.5 and not having to relearn some fundamentals, over the advantages that 4e does bring.
I'll probably migrate sometime later, once it gets a solid grounding of alternative material. But frankly, over 500 sourcebooks and other supplements is much more material than Core 4e is going to contain.

Oh boy. This is going to turn into a D&D forum soon.
I'm probably going to stick with 3.5, mostly because all of my gaming buddies are going off to college soon, myself included, and nobody wants to shell out money. Actually, the only hardcopy books we have are the 3.0 ones.
... who feels like they may have simplified the most interesting parts clear out of the game, filled the gaps liberally with WoW, and ended up with a game that, admittedly, has a much lower barrier to entry but is also not particularly interesting?
The Monopoly comparison is quite fitting, as the quality of both games(Monopoly without house rules and 3.5) is pretty much the same and degrades when added half a version or house rules.

My DM does a lot of homebrewed stuff so supplements aren't as important to my group but if you use a lot it does make sense to wait. (I would like to say it is nice to have a discus new vs old D&D editions on a forum without having to deal with " [insert edition here] is the SUX0RZ!!!!!11111ONEELEVEN")

I'd suggest we make another thread for this, but I don't think that would fly, and I have bad karma with starting new threads. I don't know that it's appropriate to spam the story thread either, though...

I definitely like the succinct comparison of the Gunnerkrigg mindset and the Etheric mindset.

And there's your classic science vs. etherial tenet argument. Yep. An argument like this can only end in tears. And explosions.
