I think he looks so graceful in that form, and yet the seams are a subtle reminder that he is still in a toy's body. Very well done, Tom! Quite in character from Annie to allow Reynardine his peace. However, she does have the entire summer with him, to let him tell her.

Beautiful! I like the way the chapter is wrapping up, it just seems like Annie has grown so much in this chapter, and it shows in how her relationships seem to be evolving. First her newfound openness in her friendship with Kat--the reserved, distant Antimony we saw at the beginning probably would not have even thought of taking her friend's hand. And now even with Reynardine there's a different dynamic, a rapport that wasn't there before. I think it's safe to say they are developing a real respect for each other--and that this is the first time in QUITE a while that Rey has had anyone's respect.

When I first read this page, I wondered whether Annie's getting ready to sneak off to Gillitie Wood and is looking through her clothes for something appropriate to wear for the adventure (though, with the chapter almost over, there wouldn't be much time to include that). But maybe she's just looking for her nightgown instead.
It's interesting how much time Reynardine is now spending in his "white wolf" form, as opposed to his plush form. (Though I can't say that I blame him. The former is far more imposing. It's difficult to take "Reynardine the Great" seriously as a small stuffed toy - even when the toy isn't wearing a Napoleon-style hat and having a tea party with Kat's action figures.)
You've got to admire Annie for being so patient with Reynardine (though Tom obviously isn't going to tell us what his crime was for a long time anyway - where'd be the fun of the mystery in that?). Was it taking over Sivo's body, or something else?

With the way Rey's that form this chapter, it's making me wonder why he hasn't used it more in the past. While the small toy form is certainly better for hiding and sneaking around, you think he'd switch to the full-size wolf form after his cover was blown if he really wanted to be taken seriously.
My theory: Rey initially thought his best chance of winning Annie's favor was by proving himself useful. Unfortunately for him, his idea of useful was a bit different from Annie's (she wasn't impressed with him sabotaging the science fair) and he was revealed before he could do very much for Annie. (Plus he was revealed by Zimmy, so he wasn't in a very good mood at the moment.)
And then Annie wanted to know about Surma, and Rey wouldn't tell. Either Rey knows this revelation would turn Annie against him, so he's waiting to reveal it until he can win her favor or respect, or he's afraid that his information about Surma is Annie's primary reason for protecting him, so he's waiting until he trusts her to not turn him over to Eglamore immediately after telling. Whatever his reason, this prompts Annie to lock Rey in a box.
In light of this, Rey decides his new mistress is harsh and fickle, and that he's best off if he proves himself generally un-useful and avoids her attention. He breaks his vow of uselessness upon realizing that Annie's in danger (this definitely happened in "Mainly Concerning Robots", and the incident on the bridge could also be interpreted this way). Much to his surprise, he actually earns a little of Annie's respect.

Everytime I see Rey talking in that wolf form, I imagine his voice a lot deeper than when he is in his plush toy form. Weird...

Incidentally, since it looks as if Annie's planning on changing her outfit (judging from the fact that she's gone over to the wardrobe section of her quarters), I hope that Reynardine has become enough of a gentleman by now to look away while she's doing that.
(Mind you, I suspect that he'd think that peeking wouldn't be worth it, given what Annie's response would be if she caught him at it.)

I don't know why he hasn't used the wolf form that often, but I am beggining to think it takes energy to shift forms, and after shifting for the meeting, defending annie, and climbing to Annies bunk he might not have the energy to switch back.
Which of course raises the question, how does a wolf climb a ladder? ;D

Were it true that he is stuck in that form, I would believe it to be something that occured during ysengrin's attack. perhaps the seeds were the ruse and the real motive was to seal Rey.
