He's always been shown missing an ear. It hasn't been explained yet.

The last time, for anyone curious. The two people standing in the shadows behind Jones look like really creepy glass-eyeds. Also, this page made me remember when Coyote threw Ysengrin through a pillar last time they did this whole thing. Looked back at the last page - the court must have a fantastic contracted robot construction team. The pillars look flawless.

Coyote, Ysengrim and Who-is-that-guy are looking badass in that last panel.

I think Jones is about to eject a lightsaber, while Annie does a back flip. Would that make Ysengrin Chew to Eglamore's Solo? Hmmm...

Random observation: Ysengrin's shading is much more detailed than anybody else's on the page Almost looks like Coyote and that other dude are his sidekicks

It's an old (in my opinion, too old) joke, stemming back to many of the readers not recognizing Eglamore in Chapter Seventeen because Tom had tweaked his character design.

Nod? What is this?
I was expecting something more along the lines of "It's those guys!"
Tom is losing his touch.

Hmm, they're all standing to the side like they did the first time they met. Maybe there'll be an appearance from Coyoters again? Naming a new medium should be something that interests the forest atleast a little bit. Called it! /dance This might be awkward (and weird) for Annie, considering the last time she saw Ysengrin.

Headmaster: "Hi, guys. You all three fail, thanks for playing, now get lost. Jones here has recommended Paz for the gig, on the basis that she takes care of pigeons and mice. Sounds good to me."

crazy theory: The Headmaster has been told a different medium than Jones wants and they are about to stage a coup for the role.

The longer I stare at the panel, the more I think you're right. But then the focus shifts to Jimmy. That panel is weird

Another theory: the Court is going to go ahead and appoint Antimony as the medium, but Ysengrin will object on some other grounds.

Since we're doing crazy alternate theories on what else could be going on instead of Annie's appointment as the Medium, a real twist would be that this ceremony has a completely different purpose, after all. Headmaster: Let the annual Court-Forest pie-throwing contest begin!

I think Coyote would find that incredibly funny. I think the quote would be "Well, in that case, how awkward! HA HA HA!" Also, I'm calling that Ys will do a friendly gesture to Antimony, who will shun him akwardly. Then, all the stuff Cyote said to him immedeately before coming here about how the court is turning Antimony against him will start to flood into his head. And he will rage before the end of the chapter.

I agree it's too old. But still just young enough for me to make the joke one last time i think. It would seems given that Annie is going to be graduated to Medium (though I think she get by just fine as Small), but I bet it would be a nice surprise were it not the case. Anyways this chapter has already been so action packed with Robot and the Robots and Shadow II and Kat and the biodroid bodies and other such things.

We don't got time for a party! We already wrapped up the main plot for this chapter! I think the headmaster is going to begin to make an announcement and then it cuts to treatise.
Also Jones is like "She nodded at me what do I do what do I do MIMIC MIMIC MIMIC yes that was probably a good human nod I did there signifying much mmm cookies"

Another theory: the Court is going to go ahead and appoint Antimony as the medium, but Ysengrin will object on some other grounds. Or Coyote.... I guess moving back to the situation from wild speculation.... Is Coyote's place here to be informed or to be consulted? Does he have a veto? Of course he always "can" object, but if he does, is it a problem to solve, or is part of the procedure? Goes back to the idea of what the role of a medium is - is it truly a intermediary between the two sides, or is it more of a diplomat representing the court? I don't think we know yet (From Jones' description and the associated picture - it looks more like a diplomat.)

Seeing Coyote and Ysengrin saunter in gives me that warm feeling you get when someone you actually like shows up at a really dull party "Well, this may end in tears, but at least it won't be boring!" My prediction: coyote's going to do something to put Annie in a very awkward position of divided "loyalties" before the chapter is out. He's a more of a megalomaniac than any honorable omnipotent being ought to be.

I don't think we know yet (From Jones' description and the associated picture - it looks more like a diplomat.) As someone pointed out in last page's thread, Tom said on his Formspring that there are two mediums (media?!); one for the court, one for the forest. Ysengrin is the forest one.

Since they are supposed to act as a Moderator between the two, and the Court gets to select the candidates, it would be "only fair" that the Forest had some say in which Candidate it would prefer, out of those chosen.
