*Honour. Sorry, gotta be that guy. Also if that is mimicking a real world tablet, Kat uses a Samsung

A Samsung tablet with an Apple connector? That doesn't look like USB, at least. Maybe the Court has its own standard...

The connector is on the long side (presumably where there's room for other ports, like USB!!)

Should we have a typo thread for catching potential typos, or are they too rare for that? Two things I noticed recently: 62: "phantasam"452: "uspposed"

Should we have a typo thread for catching potential typos, or are they too rare for that? I think we can just point them out in the comments or the page thread. I think this one may have been intentional to represent Zimmy's speech patterns.

What was toms comment about ecosystems all about?
Also, was the little guy following the seraphs or something?

What was toms comment about ecosystems all about? iOS versus Android (and Windows Phone, but it doesn't really count). The ecosystem of apps for iOS is notoriously closed. The alternatives are not that much better, but still.

Also, was the little guy following the seraphs or something? Hard to tell. This little guy came up the stairs. We know those seraphs can fly (or at least jump a little) - but the first view of them was just standing on the roof behind Robot.

Not to be That Guy, but Kat's phrasing seems a bit rude to me. I think "Do you mind if I check your video log?" would have been preferable. I guess I should cut her some slack, she's worried about Robot. Also she's a teenager.

Also she is addressing a robot which, while apparently sentient and worthy of respect, seems to be there for the convenience/service of humans.

Also also it is possible the whole 'robot angel' thing is going to her head a little bit. It sounded to me, though, like the sort of thing a doctor would say to a patient. Which also fits Kat's relationship to the robots pretty well.

"Okay?" was the question. I don't think she would go ahead and open his head if he said no.
I thought the video would be in regular color until I remembered he's seeing the world through a green lens.

Finally! A gunnerkrigg question I can answer (being a Biologist).
An open ecosystem is one which has outside influences (ie other ecosystems) impacting it. An isolated ecosystem is one which is isolated from all other influences. If you put a rat in a cage and didn't take out the waste and didn't input any food, that is an isolated ecosystem.
Except in extreme examples like that, most ecosystems are open. I think that he's symbolizing these robots as a pack, sort of like a pack of hyenas, ganging up on Robot as their prey.
I'm not sure if he's trying to say that something changed which brought in these robots who previously wouldn't have interacted with Robot at all.

He's certainly suggesting that court robots are 'alive', though that's kinda been toyed with for a very long time in the comic. A VERY odd choice of words, regardless. Should we start a discussion about robotic predator-prey relationships and trophic levels? Not sure where Boxbot would fit inside a court robot food web either; a detritivore? I forsee another liaison with doorbot, who has hopefully upgraded his optics.

I think this one may have been intentional to represent Zimmy's speech patterns. I figured as much, and even Googled it: "uspposed" gets some 23,000 hits, almost exactly as many as "phantasam" which is more obviously a typo. It looks odd to me because if you pronounce it "usp-posed" then it wouldn't really be more convenient to say, while if you pronounce is "us-posed" then it looks odd to keep both Ps. Yes, I will happily overthink anything to do with languagage.

Finally! A gunnerkrigg question I can answer (being a Biologist). That was my first thought as well, but I'm afraid he's probably just referring to the tablet. Or maybe he's being sneaky, and it's ambiguous on purpose!

If you put a rat in a cage and didn't take out the waste and didn't input any food, that is an isolated ecosystem. While this is cool speculation, I'm afraid that it's more likely that Tom is just making a little jab at iPad's OS ecosystem, which is closed, meaning that all the applications are guaranteed to be fully integrated with the OS without conflicts, but third parties can't make their own programs or applications without going through Apple first. Whatever operating system Kat is using, it's an open one, allowing her to make and install her own programs to the platform.

"Okay?" was the question. I don't think she would go ahead and open his head if he said no. Yeah, of course she wouldn't, it just seems like a rather brusque way of phrasing it. There's a difference between "Mind if I have a bite of your lunch?" and "I'm gonna have a bite of your lunch, okay?". It's not a big deal or anything, I just thought it was a little odd.

Which also fits Kat's relationship to the robots pretty well. If every time you asked a certain group of people to do something the answer was an enthusiastic agreement, eventually you'd begin to start with the assumption that what you're about to propose is totally fine. which is perfectly reasonable, and I'd say it's not really going to her head or anything. It's certainly encouraging that she still asks, even given the assumption that the answer will be yes.

Kat's phrasing didn't sound brusque or rude to me. I thought she sounded like a doctor - "Now I'm going to listen to your lungs, okay? Breathe deeply."
