So Annie's medium. Awesome! It's debatable if this was the smart choice, but it's definitely the more interesting one.

either annie is the medium, or george is the medium, and annie is important because annie controls reynard

I wonder what the significance is of Jeane in the last panel.
I guess the reason they needed a human sacrifice to put up the barrier between Court and Forest was because it was etheric in origin, and the energy only affects the "field" when a person dies. I'm thinking they inscribed the arrow used to kill Jeane with the same script that Kat found on Diego's old robots.

I keep wondering why everyone thought Jeanne couldn't cross the water, yet she did to give Annie her Ether Cut. But there are a lot of Jeanne questions not answered yet.
Oh Jones. We'll see how agreeable Mort is, when he makes Llanwellyn and the whole staff sing The Banana Boat Song in a conga line. Mort's villainy knows no bounds!

Did she just burn Renard as a horror of mankind? (yes she did! Snap!) Not quite. She's contrasting him and Mort with the horrors of mankind.

Did she just burn Renard as a horror of mankind? (yes she did! Snap!) Aye, aye. No respect. ;D I keep wondering why everyone thought Jeanne couldn't cross the water, yet she did to give Annie her Ether Cut. I still half-suspect it was her blinker.

I called this on Wednesday, Annie is the new medium. I also called the advice, I said something like "Jones will tell Annie to be more careful" Here we go: I think the lesson will be about Annie being too trusting, though the fact Jones is still teaching her tells me Annie was Chosen as the medium

Did she just burn Renard as a horror of mankind? (yes she did! Snap!) Nah, she said he and Mort are agreeable creatures of the ether, as opposed to whatever horrors of the ether humanity might create.

Man, I can't believe none of you said anything about Tom's comment!
I mean, come on! If that doesn't confirm that Jones is wrong about herself in regards to her feelings, I dunno what will.

Did she just burn Renard as a horror of mankind? (yes she did! Snap!) Nope; she'd also be calling Mort that. [nitpicking] Strictly, comparing two things doesn't necessarily throw them in a common category but yes, except for similes ("not all scarves are soft like kitten") it's commonly used like that ("not all geeks look like Kat"). [nitpicking OFF] In unrelated news regarding the 6th panel, Cutest. Jonesy. Ever ;D

I thought he only meant that it's awkwardly obvious to them both at this point that Jones just is pretending to care about Annie, and that she is just acting when she takes Annie's hand and talks about respect.

I think that Jones is right to say this - and that someone should have pointed this out to Annie far sooner. Her response to the etheric world has been based on her early encounters with it being friendly beings (the Guides, Shadow2, Basil, etc.), which gave her a misleading impression of it. (Pity that Surma didn't warn Annie about the darker aspects of the etheric world while she was still alive.)

Whoa, Jones' eyes aren't completely black for once. ;D
I thought it was strange for Jones to start talking about respect now, then I saw Tom's comment. Haha.
As for Jones mentioning it sooner, well, now Annie's learned the hard way. Didn't get seriously hurt, but I imagine the experience was pretty humbling, so she'll also take Jones' advice more seriously.

Well, it's about time Annie learned that lesson. Maybe the extra strip for this comic will be her serving detention? Nah... I keep wondering why everyone thought Jeanne couldn't cross the water, yet she did to give Annie her Ether Cut. But there are a lot of Jeanne questions not answered yet. I always thought that was because Jeanne is the reason things can't cross the water and they didn't know. I think this was actually confirmed by Word of Tom... Edit: Yeah, in this formspring responce, Tom says the only thing that's really stopping anything from crossing the Annan Waters is Jeanne. So, that would mean there's nothing to stop her from crossing them.

Didn't they actually use the arrow to kill, not Jeanne, but the green guy, and Jeanne was just a bait who was going to die there in the waters as a result. www.gunnerkrigg.com/archive_page.php?comicID=778See the next page as well.

I don't think Jones is implying that either Renard or Mort are "Horrors of Mankind". She's just using them as examples of ethereal beings whom are friendly to Annie, and saying that not all ethereals will be friendly like they are.

I don't think Jones is implying that either Renard or Mort are "Horrors of Mankind". She's just using them as examples of ethereal beings whom are friendly to Annie, and saying that not all ethereals will be friendly like they are. "...all the horrors of mankind can be given form by the ether, they might not all be as agreeable as Renard or Mort". There are only two things "they" can refer to: 1. "the horrors of mankind"; 2. "form" given to these horrors. So either not all horrors are as agreeable as Renard or Mort, or not all forms of horrors are as agreeable as Renard or Mort. Either case, Renard and Mort are "horrors of mankind". That is what she says, regardless of what you think. And I wonder why is this such a shock to people here. One is an animal demon that has taken bodies of people, one is a ghost with a mission to scare people. Even if they were not by their nature against the mankind, even if they are not evil, they are, from the point of view of mankind, horrors. It is precisely that Jones says that while Renard and Mort may be very agreeable when you get to know them, all others may not be, many of them are not.
