What is this, I don't even-Jones in Africa? Mongolia, rather. Thought for sure it would be Olduvai Gorge. I guess Tom isn't that cliche. Looks like her skin still grows calluses even though its indestructible

Why isn't her weight causing her feet to sink into the sand several millenia ago? In the present, she can't stand on a rickety wooden pier for fear of it collapsing under her weight.

I don't even know what to talk about. I don't have a prediction of the location, but I'll stick to your Africa one unless it is proven/predicted otherwise. Edit 1: I had thought that the scorching horizon that created the bluish white lining was water and she could've been on a beach with islands far beyond. But it doesn't look like beach sand. Edit 2: Okay, I just saw Tom's comment. Hehehe.

So, are we in the Stone Age yet? I don't even know what to talk about. I don't have a prediction of the location, but I'll stick to your Africa one unless it is proven/predicted otherwise.

Mystery solved.
Gunnerkrigg Court is the hallucination of a dehydrated woman cast out into the desert several thousand years ago.

So, are we in the Stone Age yet? Well, "several" to me is between 3 and 7, possible 10 at most. Don't know if there's an actual definition, so we could be anywhere from the ancient kingdoms to pre-recorded history. Mystery solved. Gunnerkrigg Court is the hallucination of a dehydrated woman cast out into the desert several thousand years ago. THE END ;D So, are we in the Stone Age yet? I don't even know what to talk about. Darn it Tom, what are we supposed to obsess about all weekend?

So we are now in current area of Mongolia/China. Perhaps Jones is Tocharian. They looked very much as Europeans. I think that we transfer back to nowadays during two next week.

Holy hell, Jones. Now we're at several millenia ago. The next jump should put us well before the Stone Age (assuming the next leap jumps back 10,000 years).

well, that far back, Europe and the mediteranian ARE starting to get a little boring, so Jones' choice to be in china at that time makes sense

The Silk Road is older than silk. This far back, they were trading lapis lazuli along it. We may see some Sumerian goodness next. Unless we go much further back, then it is cavemen and stone spears.

New Theory: Jones was originally a mirage, but men wanted to believe in her so much, she became real.

The Tocharian thoery seduces me. On the french Wikipedia pages about it, it is say that the chinese mythology comes mainly from the tocharian mythology... Maybe a good start to learn about who Jones is ?... At that point, what we are sure is that she is NOT a regular human. So... Maybe a part of mythology. What seems the most possible case here, in this story. Nah ? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinese_mythology

No wonder Jones is so emotionless. After all she's been through, you could say she's... Burnt out.

best page ever - love the distance - I felt like I was in 'Lawrence of Arabia' - however it seems as though it could be re-titled 'Jones of Africa' ..

Okay, craaaazy theory time! I think that's sand. As was stated earlier in the thread, she would be sinking very deep into the ground if it was sand. Even going under the assumption that she was much lighter several thousand years ago, a normal human's feet would be sinking into the sand somewhat. So it's probably safer to speculate that Jones is walking on hard, dry dirt. As for further thoughts, I think this page further confirms that she doesn't or feels significantly less pain and heat, as she's walking across a scorching hot desert with no shoes.

Why isn't her weight causing her feet to sink into the sand several millenia ago? In the present, she can't stand on a rickety wooden pier for fear of it collapsing under her weight. Well, contrary to some beliefs sand might be a very firm and supportive soil. Much depends on it's granular properties and water content. Loose sand usually determine forming of dunes (wind has much to say here too). Here we can see land very flat up to horizon, and after all we cannot be sure it is sand per se. I don't see a flaw there. I'm just wondering with each millennium more: How bored must be Jones in Gunnerkriggscourt times.

I bet she could probably swim through the sand if she had to.
Anyways, this one is an absolute question mark as far as when, the upper limit would be the second millennium bc. We may still see egypt, just in its earliest days. Or maybe she was born in ancient china. We're also getting close to pre-recorded history, so the next jump or two is likely to place us there.

The more pages we see, the more the phrase "a rolling stone gathers no moss" pops up in my head.

Even the most firmly packed sand or dirt would give way at least a little bit to someone heavy enough to smash a wooden pier.
Either that's an exposed rock bed (which I can't necessarily rule out), or she isn't much heavier than a human at this point.
Which doesn't mean her weight is a function of time, as such. It could be a function of human population, either total or in her vicinity. Or it could be a function of etheric potential around her. (Of course, if Coyote's theory is true, those two are one and the same.)

Even the most firmly packed sand or dirt would give way at least a little bit to someone heavy enough to smash a wooden pier. She didn't really smash a pier though. It's been stated, that she's a lot heavier than she looks, but it's never been defined as to how heavy she is. So...

That second panel. I want it as a wallpaper. Now. And by the way, this page shows how much of an impact Journey had on Tom
