Geez, we knew she was old at this point, but it's really starting to look like she is properly immortal.

To be pedantic, that would be "just a shade under two millennia ago", but that's an awesome image ;D

You know what? Jones needs to write her autobiography. Or at least a book on history as she saw it.
Does anyone else see a resemblance between Jones and the statues in the alcoves behind her?

Geez, we knew she was old at this point, but it's really starting to look like she is properly immortal. Indeed. It doesn't even look like Jones is the Oracle of Delphi or the Goddess Athena or anything like that in this timeline. She's still just somebody, not Somebody (I'd been kind of wondering if Roman times could be her starting point, remembering that Valkyries and the Norse gods are apparently real in this setting, Jones as a Roman goddess with no believers anymore was not impossible). Maybe my Garden of Eden quip wasn't a quip. Or else we're about to see Deadpan Cavewoman Jones, which will be hilarious. Aside: So not only is she immune to steel, she's immune to fire too if her utter lack of concern here has anything to say about it.

I wonder if she's fire-resistant too, then - those flames licking at her legs seem a little too friendly. Welp exuberancium called that one yesterday.

She's on fire. Huh. She actually is. And she's taking it in the usual jones-ish manner, not giving a crap about it.

what a STUNNING page! and such a nice well defined date...
We will never know if Jones didn't have anything to do with caretaking for Nero (that project went haywire!)
kuddos to all who guessed the vesuvius for this page! at least it has burning Romans in it!

Cookie to whoever said Jones was a smokin' hot babe.
At least one more jump before secret origin time, methinks.

Geez, we knew she was old at this point, but it's really starting to look like she is properly immortal. Agreed... Anyways, my prediction of the 2nd or 3rd century, maybe 1st wasn't too far off. I think we went back a thousand years from the last point. The prediction of Pompeii wasn't too far off either since that is 15 years later. My prediction is that the next jump will be 2,000 years back, placing us right during the ancient egyptians time.

Am I the only person who thinks she actually looks younger this time? At first I thought she looked like a child, but then I decided it might just be a trick of hair and fashion. Her head looks big and she looks less curvy.

I love how his avatar made it look like Annie was just nonchalantly saying that over a lunch. "Yep, just gonna finish this pb&j, then set her on fire."

We will never know if Jones didn't have anything to do with caretaking for Nero (that project went haywire!) Well, anytime you want to learn to do something properly you're going to make some mistakes along the way. After having this learning experience, you can be sure that next time she raised an emperor he didn't kill his predecessor, let his mother tell him how to rule the empire, kill his mother and become the first emperor in history to devalue the Empire's currency. Not to mention, I'm sure he wasn't a general jerk.

I'm too much of an interjector: "Ahh, you'll find that .." etc. so the avvie sets the tone for me. But, note: she

Poor thing, though, she's so alone. I know everyone else is running for their lives and all, but even when she has people around her, there's no-one who can share her perspective. And again, standing, observing.

But, note: she Ah, no offense meant, but I was referencing Exuberancium's post. He's a dude and has Annie eating a sandwich in his avatar. Let's get on with it Tom. We know she's old. We know she's been there for everything. Please kill the suspense, it's killing me. Not as much as it's killing the Romans.

Seriously though, unless Tom makes some pit stops somewhere, the next jump will be right during the ancient Egyptians time. The old kingdom seems like a good spot, or even one of the great rulers such as Ramesses. Egypt has a LOOONG history, so there's plenty of spots for Tom to choose from.

Aside: So not only is she immune to steel, she's immune to fire too if her utter lack of concern here has anything to say about it. Tom has a couple more epochs of time to cross. This is a comic has a lot to do with gods, after all, gods and things that are trying to become gods, and most of those things live quite a long time. Rereading all the wildly exaggerated and conflicting stories in Rome's recorded history reminds me a little too much of politics nowadays. It's pretty fascinating reading the Roman perspective on Christianity: According to Tacitus, Nero ordered Christians to be thrown to dogs, while others were crucified or burned to serve as lights.[14]
He describes the event as follows:
As a consequence, to get rid of the report, Nero fastened the guilt and inflicted the most exquisite tortures on a class hated for their abominations, called Christians [or Chrestians[18]] by the populace. Christus, from whom the name had its origin, suffered the extreme penalty during the reign of Tiberius at the hands of one of our procurators, Pontius Pilatus, and a most mischievous superstition, thus checked for the moment, again broke out not only in Judaea, the first source of the evil, but, even in Rome, where all things hideous and shameful from every part of the world find their centre and become popular. In accordance, an arrest was first made of all who pleaded guilty; then, upon their information, an immense multitude was convicted, not as much of the crime of firing the city as of hatred against mankind. Mockery of every sort was added to their deaths. Covered with the skins of beasts, they were torn by dogs and perished, or were nailed to crosses, or were doomed to the flames and burnt, to serve as a nightly illumination, when daylight had expired.[14]

If we keep going back, at some point (very soon) it's going to start to become questionable why Jones is white. Going back much further than Rome there certainly aren't a lot of ancient white civilizations she could have come from. If her origins are extraterrestrial I would still have a question about why she was modeled by whatever maker after white people since, again, too much further back than Rome and white people are a pretty localized, rustic minority.
