Perhaps even Gamma will be the medium. Or a character we've never met before. Honestly, Annie does not seem like a good choice anymore.

I knew Paz had it in her! I see it's Casual Day in Headmaster Jonathan's office.

I have the weirdest feeling it will be Annie. But hey, who knows, maybe it's another twist. Wouldn't be the first time.

Parley. I think it's been coming for a while, too. She was one of the candidates, unless I'm totally misremembering the story, and she kept her head dealing with Jeanne, then showed herself to be focused and balanced in dealing with the problem, getting over her own issues, and growing up.
Annie's been showing herself to be more and more of loose cannon from the court's POV--and quite possibly from everyone else's. I like her, and I think she'll grow out of it, but she's still entering her teenage angst phase, not leaving it.
If Jones picks Annie over Parley, it's an error of judgement.

"Well, I'm not the medium yet." The way Eglamore says "Um, look Antimony..." suggests maybe he was about to tell her that she's not doing very well in her medium training.

Well, that's one way to evade a straight answer. Headmaster Llanwellyn has a first name! Ah, so that's the mystery that has been solved.

The blatantly keeping-open-both-female-options suggests to expect the unexpected. Both Carver and Parly are good candidate. (let's indeed say one could be a bit more mature and focused, but of course the other has a fair amount of natural talent) Of course plotwise, you can see advantages as well. being the medium could open storylines, but close other ones as well for antimony, given the responsibilities I asume come with the job.
So I'm afraid I don't know who it will be. I do know this though: The flashback only has a function in the chapter if jones will now change yesterday's opinion because of the conversation that is about to follow. How about that. Nomatter who will be the obious choice, she won't be anymore after this chapter!

The clear choice is Red, amazing what being given a name can do! Ties to both forest and court, ambition, a unique style of diplomacy, able to see through illusions. Red introduces Coyote: "Everyone, I met this nutjob before coming to court." Coyote: "Tell me a story about myself." Red: "ppbbbbttthhhhhbb...." www.gunnerkrigg.com/archive_page.php?comicID=997

LAUGHING ON LINE my vote is Robot god Kat. She's now the coyote of Gunnerkrigg. The Order to his chaos.
Kidding... but yeah I would not be surprised if it wasn't Annie.

When I first saw this page I scrolled up and down a few times just to see if there was some chance that Jones would give a straight answer to the question Annie asked. Dammit. Tom's slowly killing all of us isn't he XD Jones was wearing a red necktie-scarf-thing the previous day? Is that a condition of entrance to that guy's office?

You know, if Tom wanted to be REEEEALLY evil, this little flashback would have Antimony loosing the medium position to Parley (or much less likely someone else, perhaps Zimmy) and then Jones would give that as a reason not to tell Antimony (as it's no longer need-to-know if she's not the medium).
Actually, that's painfully likely. But I still think that she just looses the medium position but Jones tells her anyway.
P.S.: I like that kerchief, but it doesn't really go with the outfit.

A bit too much indirection from Tom - get on with the story already... =)
Annie needs to find her place - but she has none now. Forest is out, she has no parents, all she's been directing towards is the court as the medium. If that falls through, what's left for her?
What do people do after they "graduate" from the court?
I think her mother was a bit of a loose cannon too, so it could be Annie still. But while a medium is a go-between and can be impartial, she's still an agent of the court. And as the story's going, I'm not sure that's the best thing for Annie to choose sides yet.
Jones takes no sides either, and works for the court - but is not the medium. So, what's different from Annie and Jones? What is Jones?

It seems that Jones chooses the Medium, and Jones is rather uncaring to how the Court feels about Antimony. I think Jones will choose Antimony

Jonathan has impeccable taste in office furniture.
(your backgrounds are awesome, Tom. Except that framed poster/painting is distracting. Is it important somehow? Will they discuss it on the next page?)

It's been noted that Jones wears rather drab clothes, except a hot pink scarf on one occasion. Why is she wearing a ridiculously red scarf when talking to Jonathan? It's seriously hurting my eyes. Does she have special neck powers that can only be kept in check by gaudy neckwear?

Will they discuss it on the next page?) My thoughts exactly. What is the significance of the red picture, if any? And is any such significance tied, if you'll forgive the pun, to the red ascot that Jones is wearing? I can see Tom adding color for appearance' sake, but I'm so used to looking for importance in details that I can't help but wonder. It's been awhile since we've explored or seen reminder of the alchemy side of the story line; perhaps there's some relation there? If anyone would be involved in such things the headmaster is a likely suspect...
