They seem to be best buddies. Only best buddies kick eachother in the face.

I think there's more to it than meets the eye. I suspect that he's testing her in some way.

Story annie would know: Coyote's tooth turned Shadow to 3D, cut Robot up, and laughed.

I think there's more to it than meets the eye. I suspect that he's testing her in some way. Agreed. This is the "will you be a doormat or will you give me spankies for being a jerk?" test. Of course, Coyote wins either way because he thinks the spankies are hilarious.

I never thought of Coyote as the kind of girl who would say "Tell me again how beautiful my eyes are..."
But you know, I guess it fits.
Only that Coyote's supposed to be the guy in the relationship.
In theory anyways.

Nah, he's a god. He can do whatever he wants.
Is Annie any good at telling stories?

Hooray! Storytime! Stories are my favorite thing in the world.
Besides miniature cigars and good lobster, that is.

I'd say he's up for another spankies. She WAS in the middle of class, after all.

Panel four is possibly my favorite panel ever. Don't mind me, just standing on my own head here.
Also, don't hate on a Coyote. He already explained that he loves to hear stories about himself. Besides, this is job training! She's mediuming!

I think there's more to it than meets the eye. I suspect that he's testing her in some way. Tries to lead the talk to some point referenced in some story or alludes to giving him "a new story" - e.g. Coyote's tooth turned Shadow to 3D, cut Robot up, and laughed. ...which doesn't mean there's no vanity involved. Agreed. This is the "will you be a doormat or will you give me spankies for being a jerk?" test. Of course, Coyote wins either way because he thinks the spankies are hilarious. That too, but is it this simple?

Annie looks like Wonderella in panel 6. Also I like Coyote better here than I usually do.

Omigod I just noticed she has something around her neck - WHAT IS THAT?

I like the way Tom's been drawing exaggerated/cartoonish facial expressions lately. I wouldn't want them on every page, but sprinkled throughout the comic like this on funny stuff is just wonderful! They just fit perfectly, and are one more example of Tom knowing his stuff. He can make us laugh without even having to deliver a line. You rock, Tom!

(long time lurker leaving the lurking) Omigod I just noticed she has something around her neck - WHAT IS THAT? That would most likely be what she always has around her neck: The necklace she was given by her mother with the alchemical symbol for antimony, as you can see here: www.gunnerkrigg.com/archive_page.php?comicID=37

I almost feel like he's trying to gauge how much her mother has told her about him. "Tell me stories about myself!" is a bit more subtle ((I mean... for Coyote)) than "So, what has Surma told you about me?" If this chapter really is about Coyote's big secret, knowing exactly what she knows might be important.
Or maybe he really was bored and desired a pretty young girl to tell him about his great deeds. XD This is /Coyote/ after all.

It's fun how Coyote just declares: "You will tell me stories". Not "Would you tell me stories?", or even "I order you to tell me stories". Just declaration that that's what she's going to do now. And it's interesting that he gets those sharp teeth again in that panel; before it's seemed that he gets those when he's being unusually mean-spirited (mocking Rey's love for Surma, threatening Annie with violence, etc.). This seems pretty mild compared to those earlier times, unless there's some sinister catch there, somewhere.

Panel 1: Hey Coyote, I'm up here.
Though he's probably looking at whatever it is that Annie has around her neck.

Telling stories or going back to class, I'm sure Annie will tell all the Coyote stories she knows.
Maybe the great secret has something to do with how gods keep their power and how they might lose their powers.

Delurking to say: This kinda scares me. I can see it developing into: "These stories and the Great Secret are why I AM VERY POWERFUL TERRIBLE AND YOU WOULD DO WELL TO REMEMBER THAT AND FEAR ME"

That would most likely be what she always has around her neck: The necklace she was given by her mother with the alchemical symbol for antimony, as you can see here: www.gunnerkrigg.com/archive_page.php?comicID=37 I always found it odd that she of all people would wear that symbol. That's the modern spiritual symbol of Antimony, but the alchemical symbol is basically an upside down female symbol. The symbol she wears is reverse-antimony crowned (controlled) by the symbol for quicklime, in alchemical symbolism this would mean that the reverse is being maintained by the control; in other words, it symbolizes mans control of nature (not freedom, its reversed here) through Alchemy/science/knowledge. I wonder if Tom did that on purpose...

She's also wearing the tooth, right? Didn't she have three things on at once at one point?

She's also wearing the tooth, right? Didn't she have three things on at once at one point? She used to wear the Antimony symbol, the blinker stone, and the tooth. I doubt she wears the blinker stone anymore since she knows how to summon it.

In theory anyways. Last panel: Draw me like one of your French girls. Aside, would Annie bring the tooth into the forest after Coyote threatened to cut off her hand if she told the forest people about it? Ya, the bind is off but taking the the thing Coyote wants kept secret to a meeting with Coyote would be ill advised.

Once upon a time, I was in the middle of my classes. Then, a god summoned me, because he was bored. He tried to eat my hair, so I kicked in him the chin. The End.
