Sorry Annie, boss wants you in his office. No time for the village people. But here's a branch. I hope it makes you feel better.
You aren't going soft on me are you Ysengrin?

I can't shake the feeling that Coyote is going to be the father figure in her life. To tell the truth, I'm not sure if that's good or bad.

I can't shake the feeling that Coyote is going to be the father figure in her life. To tell the truth, I'm not sure if that's good or bad. A mixture of both, but for a sane and mortal being it would probably tend toward the latter. I don't think Coyote has the parenting gene. I don't think he even has genes at all...

The skull doesn't lend itself to a generally lighthearted feeling, no.
Even though it obviously isn't out of character at this point, after staring at the page for a couple of minutes, I realized I had to close my mouth. I love their relationship so much. I'm thinking this chapter is going to test Ysengrin some though.

I'm pretty sure Coyote's going to be a jerk in this chapter, Annie is smiling to much, something terrible is bound to happen.

Considering her lean towards the forest, I saw an interesting approach to the whole Medium business on another forum I visit: Parley could end up representing the court, Annie would approach things from the forest's point of view, and Smitty acts as the order between the two. Either that, or Annie learns something about the forest this chapter that finally allows her to be objective about it.

Annie and Ysengrin sitting in a tree... K.I... hahahahahahaha.
Cause she's being all huggy. And because they're both technically sitting in a tree, though Ysengrin more literally IN, and Annie more like ON.
It's still funny.
Laugh, dag nabbit!

I'm sure all of us see a bloodthirsty wolf/tree hybrid and want to give him a big ol' hug.
Unfortunately we're not Annie and would be ripped apart. I wonder if Surma had this kind of friendship with Ysengrin before. Coyote and her obviously got along. Renard of course loved her. We never see much of what Ysengrin thought about her even though the two had to come into contact.

My guess is that Coyote caught what was going on while Annie was comatose with the bones sticking out of her, and either (hopefully!) has some explanations - Coyote style - or, conversely, has some questions for her that may or may not involve her remembering or realizing significant things about it.

My guess: Annie returns from this visit as a creature of the forest again, as she already seems to be slowly making the transformation. Shoes gone, twig bark hair-tie, Ysengrin uh, licking her... ...You're never going to let us the forest civilization, are you, Tom? No, I'm pretty sure Tom wants us to the whole thing.

Antimony makes rather... interesting faces in the first two panels. Considering her lean towards the forest, I saw an interesting approach to the whole Medium business on another forum I visit: Parley could end up representing the court, Annie would approach things from the forest's point of view, and Smitty acts as the order between the two. I too think it's possible she can become the Wood's medium ('Grin doesn't seem to enjoy the role much) - at least if she can fix their little cold war and give proper burial to those two. Maybe, even change into a body capable of dealing with her nature?.. I also suspect that by now "which one gets the place" is not how she would see the problem. I wonder if Surma had this kind of friendship with Ysengrin before. [...] We never see much of what Ysengrin thought about her even though the two had to come into contact. Except the vague sweeping "all the people of the forest" by Coyote and non-reaction by 'Grin... That may be quite curious, indeed. Though maybe it's just that most of the time Surma chatted with more funny Renard - and we know these two dislike each other.

...You're never going to let us the forest civilization, are you, Tom? There was a tweet from Tom a few days ago: "Finally able to work on my first side story comic today! It's called Annie In the Forest Part 1. " There is still hope, my friend!

Anyone else notice that Annie is projecting herself into the ether without the blinker stone? How far she has gotten...
So, the Forest has a village; I wonder if that's just a human expression, or if even some denizes of the Forest put some separation between themselves and uncontrolled nature?

o m g. Annie and Ys for cutest couple. ... no I'm not actually shipping them. Anyone else notice that Annie is projecting herself into the ether without the blinker stone? How far she has gotten... So, the Forest has a village; I wonder if that's just a human expression, or if even some denizes of the Forest put some separation between themselves and uncontrolled nature? If you've got a brain and hands, you're bound to build something. Being "one with nature" doesn't really have much to do with it. Even Ys' wood body could be considered a construct of some kind, magical or not.

"Parley could end up representing the court, Annie would approach things from the forest's point of view, and Smitty acts as the order between the two"
The last medium was biased towards the court, helped trap a member of forest there. It is unclear bias here, Annie does not care for certain actions of court but also expressed concern on coyote dictatorship over forest, may distrust both sides somewhat.
...
If a really unbiased mediator was needed, then why not Boxbot? They all say he is terrible so can't accuse him of being biased towards them. He wants to help.

Annie's too confident. She's acting too much like she belongs in that place. Something's going to go wrong.

Love that first panel so much! I love ether-Ys, and the runes seemingly evaporating from his missing ear.
Also, I love the scaling work done on the twig that Ys breaks off for Annie - it looks so tiny in his hand, and so huge in hers!

I like how Annie just has to point and Ysengrin breaks the twig off for her. Its just like a little sister pointing a flower and the big brother picks it up for her.

If you've got a brain and hands, you're bound to build something. Being "one with nature" doesn't really have much to do with it. I'm just wondering, considering that according to Jeanne and Diego, the creatures razed down all the buildings on their side of the ravine, and the Court destroyed all the trees on theirs in retribution. So what I'm wondering is whether the creatures have grown more lenient over time, and started to shape their environment like humans, or if "village" refers to some different kind of habitation than what we usually use the term for.
