Gamma's face. Kind of terrifying. Very intense. When Gamma thinks you're nice. it is serious business. Don't test her.

Anybody else noticing the stylistic parallels between the first page of the chapter and the end? Especially Annie's scar and Kat's hairband?
Edit: especially in the way both items are thrown away.

Gamma's face. Kind of terrifying. Very intense. When Gamma thinks you're nice. it is serious business. Don't test her. "I think you're nice." Gamma says, as she tosses the headband of plus five straightness over her shoulder. I think Hyland's in over his head on this one. If there is a bite too big for anyone to chew, it is Gamma. After all, she chooses to spend all her time around a person who causes reality to become indeterminate. One tough cookie.

"I think you're nice." Gamma says, as she tosses the headband of plus five straightness over her shoulder. Those two would probably consider it a cursed item. [edit] Also: Yep, it was real. [/edit]

Kat leaves Annie's room, finds the missing headband, and is all "did I sleepwalk out here?"
Question left unanswered: So exactly what DID Zimmy's help accomplish?
2nd question left unanswered: What happened to Annie in the first place?
3rd question left unanswered: How did Jones not get involved in this chapter?
4th question left unanswered: Where did Reynardine go? I understand that Shadow and Robot have classes to go to and people to see, but why isn't Renard still in the room when Annie and Kkat wake up? Did he have an urgent luncheon appointment to run off to?

Ah, this is the GC that I remember from years ago. Where things just happen and you have to wait two or three chapters before you get any explanation.

Kat leaves Annie's room, finds the missing headband, and is all "did I sleepwalk out here?" The headband falls flat on her head out of nowhere. Or, far more hilariously, on Paz's. Question left unanswered: So exactly what DID Zimmy's help accomplish? Woke her up? 2nd question left unanswered: What happened to Annie in the first place? For those of us who were reading the comic: what was sneakily foreshadowed in two previous chapters. For those of us a little bit too much distracted by imagining naval vessels: Anthony was threatening the Earth from his moon base on the moon after his lifelong secret bonelaser training with bonelasers and now he sniped Annie with them! Pick any. 3rd question left unanswered: How did Jones not get involved in this chapter? Probably, she was informed about the situation, looked, nodded and gone away because she couldn't do anything about it? 4th question left unanswered: Where did Reynardine go? There was a sign "No pets!" on the door? ;D

Next chapter should be fun, unanswered questions are the best questions... I think? Nice to see Gamma tossing the headband. I hate that thing.

3rd question left unanswered: How did Jones not get involved in this chapter? This is pretty easy: she doesn't have any etheric powers, so all she could do would be a medical checkup, and those presumably weren't all that helpful. I still like to speculate that they went out to look for help from Zimmy and Gamma in the first place. Alternatively they tried to find some nonhuman etheric experts to help with Annie. I really don't see them leaving unless they thought it would help her in some way. Maybe they come in with the cavalry in the stinger page? Too bad that Zimmy didn't get to wear the headband, I was looking forward to it. But then, it'd probably fit her a lot worse than Kat. *sigh* And now the rest of the week is a possible stinger and a title page. I hate chapter endings...

Inexplicably, from that day the ether was at least +5 straighter.

Inexplicably, from that day the ether was at least +5 straighter. LAUGHING ON LINE! I don't know why, but for some reason your comment gave me the mental image of the hairband falling down the Annan gorge and landing on/being found and worn by Jeanne. <shudder> She's terrifying enough as it is.

So Zimmy is batman. Who knows how many people she has been helping. She's the hero the court deserves... but not the one it needs right now. So they'll hunt her. Because she can take it. Because she's not our hero. She's a silent guardian, a watchful protector. A dark knight.

Another thing that just came to my mind: I wonder if a bit of Annie's etheric self permanently rubbed off of Zimmy, and perhaps vice versa? That red tint just begs an explanation...

Well some headbands have those teeth that made it look weird here.
Maybe Renard brought everyone else that didn't know about Annie's condition like Parley and Smitty. I think that being Annie brought out Zimmy's own etheric color. Besides in the ether plane how else would black hair stand out?

Since the headband has an aura I don't think this is the ether proper. I'm figuring Zimmy's red highlights are because she isn't fully separated from Antimony's mind until the end of the chapter, and I figure that because of the scar-thing in the beginning of the chapter.
Unless the headband really is magic. In that case the Headband of +5 Straightness deserves its own comic. Each chapter could be a stand-alone story of how a different same-sex couple (or potential couple) finds the headband and one person inexplicably puts it on, loses interest, and their ship starts to derail. Will they stay (or become) a couple? Or will their ship sink? You won't know until the last page of the chapter.

+5 Headband of Straightness X Cursed Teapot = OTIP (one true item pairing)
(Funny thing I just discovered: if you google for "cursed teapot", the results page gives the title of the corresponding GC archive page as "Cursed Teapot Woes - Gunnerkrigg Court - By Tom Siddell", even though this is not in the page's source code.)

Actually, it is. It's mentioned right in Tom's comment on that page: "The less said about Chapter 12a: Cursed Teapot Woes, the better." Sorry to spoil the magic.

Yes, obviously, but how does it get from there into Google's representation of the page title? After all it isn't given as "The less said - Gunnerkrigg Court - By Tom Siddell" or "X - Gunnerkrigg Court - By Tom Siddell" for any other X in the viewable page code.

Google's spiders don't just look at the page titles, but also the content. If it's on the page, it's possible for Google to find it. When a Google search can be used to find even individual forum posts, it's really not a big deal that it can find that page. It's not like "haunted teapot" is a that common search term, and Google searches prioritize based on your surfing history.

People keep asking why does Kat have that hairband.
She has worn it since the chapter where she almost confessed to a girl, Paz(sp?), and now she's doubting whether she's really a girl or not. Maybe she's trying to be more feminine so she may get boys to like her?

I wasn't wondering how Google finds the page, but why the title given is different. Google's titles don't nearly always match the actual page titles. I guess that they have their own titling system based on the searches made of the page in question. She has worn it since the chapter where she almost confessed to a girl, Paz(sp?), and now she's doubting whether she's really a girl or not. Maybe she's trying to be more feminine so she may get boys to like her? That's kind of inaccurate. Kat wasn't hitting on Paz at any point, Paz simply took a compliment the wrong way. Kat freaked out by the implications and started wearing the headband in hopes that she wouldn't be perceived that way any more. She certainly hasn't actively pursued boys after the instance though. Anyway, now she'll presumably have to face the issue more directly.

Google's titles don't nearly always match the actual page titles. I guess that they have their own titling system based on the searches made of the page in question. It turns out this is the case and there's a bunch of articles on the topic that can be found. I did a search that would call up a lot of comic pages and the results are kind of mixed. Special pages like chapter beginnings, treatises and bonus pages seem to be properly named as a rule (chapters become "Chapter X", not their actual title). Some other pages get appropriate titles like the teapot one, e.g. the page where Annie pokes the moon is named "Poke". Yet others get nonsensical one-word titles like "Next" or "Here", and it does happen that the algorithms mutilate Tom's comment and put something weird as the title, like "Why might the cows not cut". Funny stuff.
