You idiot.Dat face. Narration is confirmed as Annie's internal dialogue, unless she is telling a very strange story to someone in the future.

Yup. Looks like the change in tense on the previous page was intentional.

There is more personality in this comic than Antimony has shown in the rest of the entire comic. Also, panel four face needs to be an avatar.

So, in panel three, is Annie tearing up because she swallowed water down the wrong pipe, or did she feel a sudden rush of emotion she couldn't control (which caused her to swallow water down the wrong pipe)?

The latter, I think.

Oh Donnie. I love you for knowing how to handle this situation.
I'd be hugging Annie by now. Donald seems to know that's not what will get her to face her own emotions.

Annie's awkwardness is amusing.
It's like watching a long-plugged spring of groundwater slowly pushing its way out to the surface; her emotions bound to eventually come gushing out in an explosion of feelings she's been effectively suppressing for some time..

Dearest Antimony,
After intensive years of research, the asbestos gen therapy I started to develop when I found about your mother's condition has finally entered its pre-clinical stage. So far it has proved effective in matches, zippos and salamanders. We are actively looking for test subjects, if by chance you spot any red-haired fairies please capture some for us. Remember that until we have moved on to the clinical stage you are forbidden to date any male.
Remember I am doing all this for you and my eventual grandchildren. Toodles!

Or because it's water. Okay, a wild guess. I don't believe in it myself. But that still was my first thought, given her her state. I'd be hugging Annie by now. Donald seems to know that's not what will get her to face her own emotions. Too bad anyone who'd try to hug Annie and say it's okay and she's adorable while she's this unstable risks to be flamed so hard that ashes would be swept away by the superheated updraft. Otherwise, Kat's presence could help. Then again, she's not into "the easy way". :_]___

I think what's going on there is that she was red in the face and crying the whole time, but didn't notice it until just then, making her deadpan up 'till that point Unreliable Narration.

It's not easy to put your mask back on when you've spent the last 2 years smashing it into pieces.

Is this the first time we have heard Annie thinking to herself like that? I know she's narrated before, but this talking to herself seems new. I like it! Made this page that little bit more personal and sad. I think we've all had times we felt how she does now!
Also, I love her petulant-looking little face in the last panel.

It's because her mind was obviously not focused on what her throat was doing. It happens. I've accidentally sent myself hacking from being silly enough to think I can drink rapidly without thinking. Breathing heavily or more rapidly because you're upset makes it worse.

Hm. At first I thought it was absurd when someone mentioned something along the line of mental conditioning / brainwashing earlier. I'm really not sure anymore now.

Danny is turning on the fire suppression system. The reason they had to usher everyone out of the room was out of experience at dealing with Surma. They could tell Annie is about to explode!

Haha, they really do make it easier to wait. I'm also really looking forward to more attention given to Donny, he's been in the sidelines a lot up until now.

That's an usually emotional response for Annie. Room incineration in 3... 2... 1...
And Mr. Donlan must be the most cold-hear^W fire-proof person in the cast, that's why they left him there.

Develop a nasty case of emotion over the summer, Carver?
Nice move by Mr. Donlan. It looks like she was concentrating so hard on not cracking that just simple act like swallowing broke her.

Otherwise, Kat's presence could help. Mhm. Which is why my post was indicating "I would be hugging Annie and I would be wrong to do so, so it's a good thing it's Donald who's with her". Donnie knows what he's doing.
