Annie, Red, and the readers, are confused.
Also, the faces.

I guess whoever calls them a name first, names them? i mean did red ever really introduce herself? This exact thought occurred to me mere moments before the new page went up. I feel like an idiot for the obvious not slapping me in the face sooner. It seems appropriate for how important names are to fae. As fae turned human, it makes even more sense. Humans don't get to pick their names. Others do it for them. And woohoo! This is my first, and last, new page thread catch! I just so happened to be up at this ungodly hour, and saw no thread. Also, are we seriously coming up on 1000 pages?

Good thing Antimony didn't yell, "Schmuckface, how can you be so cruel!" I guess whoever calls them a name first, names them? i mean did red ever really introduce herself? Welcome to the forums, Toasted! Maybe it's the first time a girl screams a descriptor then that's your name. In which case my fairy name is actually either "ogodogod" or possibly "wheredidyoulearntodriveyoulunatic." I hope it's the first one because I don't think I can fit the second on my business cards.

Anyone else immediately think of some of the photoshopped pieces that people have done to this comic when they saw Red's face?

As fae turned human, it makes even more sense. Humans don't get to pick their names. Others do it for them. I was thinking of that earlier and just didn't bother to post it, but your explanation makes far, far more sense than what I was thinking of. That's some really nice symbolism.

HIS NAME IS ROBERT PAULSON.
I can't tell if this is meant to be creepy as hell or not but god damn those are some cult-tastic fairies. Between the childishness and the apparent lack of any reasonable system of ethics I just can't get over the thought that given the right incentive they could all very easily go straight up psychotic and murder everyone. While smiling. And giggling and singing and chanting peoples' names like the bunch of creepy weirdos they are.
Oh and BLUE HAS MIND CONTROL WHAT. Brilliant, the girl with jealousy issues who refuses to associate with people whose hair she doesn't approve of can control the actions of others without their knowledge or consent! NOTHING CAN GO WRONG HERE.
Bluh. I think I'm just having a bit of a fairy overload. I mean they're fun and all I guess but the combination of annoying and disturbing is really starting to get to me. When do we get to go back to gay messiah robots and wacky magic canines?

Ya gotta respect those kids who've got the gift to make up stories and games and stuff and get all/nearly all the other kids to go along with it, even when it's dumb. They never stay bored long. They sometimes get into huge trouble but they're always having adventures. I am guessing this is the fairy version of that and it's only mind control on those who aren't used to it.

Is it possible she likes Red specifically because she's immune? Has that theory been brought up in another thread yet?
I'm guessing yes.

Well now we are getting into the murky waters of intent. If Blue intents to use her ability only as a means for playing games and having fun (another silly word imo) it might seem as a harmless past time. But what happens when Blue is angry and a bit out of control? Meh... I guess I am one of those freaks who'd sooner eat burning coals than allow mind control

The Teacher and Red didn't seem to be affected, maybe she can craft etheric illusions, put the knowledge of what she is going for there and most times everyone goes along with it. But someone who is expecting it basically chooses there level of involvement. Probably doesn't work on people who can't float around etherically either. Kat and Robot are safe .

(guestbook for page 976) Also it would just be classic vintage "Tom" if Red gets named "Red" in this chapter. Ta-da! darkmelee_music and zirka recieve Gunnercookies! Annie, Red, and the readers, are confused. Also, the faces. ...also, the faces. ;D
Oh and BLUE HAS MIND CONTROL WHAT. Brilliant, the girl with jealousy issues who refuses to associate with people whose hair she doesn't approve of can control the actions of others without their knowledge or consent! NOTHING CAN GO WRONG HERE. Let's see. A teenage girl in a wild fit of jealousy (this doesn't bode well already, does it?) uses massive mind control powers. To roleplay a plain and Sue-ific, but rather cute "Sorcerer's Apprentice" scene. After ensuring there's some unaffected supervision, let's not forget that part. I'm starting to really like these fairies... ;D Oh, and while i looked at it, the player in a fit of randomized hilarity chose "Hell goes round" by Crete Boom. The look on your face when I told you your name but still you forget and who is to blame? Step to the threshold and no going back ...

Welp. There's an anti-climax.
I wonder why "whatevs" and "teacher lady" and so on don't qualify as names?
Or maybe it has to be an outsider?

I wonder why "whatevs" and "teacher lady" and so on don't qualify as names? Or maybe it has to be an outsider? I'd say a physical description like "fish-boy" or their job description doesn't count. Annie's seemingly named her "Red" in her head instead of just calling her "that red-headed fairy" or something. ...and "whatevs" is just "Whatever", it's not directed at anyone as a name.

I have a feeling faeries just can't name each other; only a human can (pure home-grown human, not genetically modified ex-nonhuman-human). Maybe that's to ensure their real integration into human society, and since they seem to hardly interact with humans, it just... hadn't happened for Red yet.

Okay so... Blue actually WAS mind-controlling people? Shit I thought that was just a wacky theory and Annie was just showing how much she loosened up in the forest. I'm... actually a little disappointed. I was hoping to see a different side of Annie.
Oh well...

Am I the only one who read all of the fairies greeting Red in Navi's voice? I cannot read it any other way, especially in the case of "Red! Hello!"
Also, cuteness overload regarding Blue's face in the last panel.

I find it funny that Blue's mouth is probably all quivering because she's tearing up with joy but there's Ether!shading making it look rather awkward. EDIT: actually upon further inspection she's facing the right but her mouth looks like it's from a frontal angle and enlarged.

I guess I am one of those freaks who'd sooner eat burning coals than allow mind control I'm not pro mind-control but I do remember being in low single-digit years when there would be one or two kids who could always yell, "Let's play house!" or "Stop you're under arrest!" and all the other kids would drop what they were doing and play along. I was one of those kids who would usually play along unless I didn't like my assigned role. Then I would be a fire truck.
