Everything is adorable these last few pages. It's making me uneasy.

I wonder if the Court believes that they're indoctrinating the faeries into the Court's scientific principles, completely unaware that the faeries are actually continuing their forest personalities in a way that the Court cannot see. It seems to me to make a lot more sense that the Faeries are acting this way to hide what they're doing from the Court than that they're co-operating with the Court to put on a show of normality in case someone outside the loop happens to walk past a classroom.

This is just adorable. I love how they're all trying to impress her and Annie's just happy, which is nice to see for her.

YES. DEERBOY. I like your antlers, Deerboy. I like them a lot.
So wait was that blue-haired girl a fairy or a water nymph? I thought all the girls were those little regional fairy things like Red and Blue were.

Boy, these pages will look awesome when Gunnerkrigg Court gets made into an animated series like it totally will.

For a moment, I misinterpreted the blue-haired boy's statement to mean that he actually was the waterfall before. My mind was blown at the idea of landscapes studying orbital physics.

I do wonder about how a badger would posses what appears to be a Spitfire, though I guess living in or near the remains of a downed fighter would be plausible. This is discounting the possibility of reincarnation, or for a WW2 pilot to enter the forest by becoming a badger, only to leave and join the court in a new body some decades later. For a moment, I misinterpreted the blue-haired boy's statement to mean that he actually was the waterfall before. My mind was blown at the idea of landscapes studying orbital physics. In some cultures, where the landscape is considered to be (or have been) alive this becomes a lot easier to come to terms with. Luckily, nobody has to... yet.

Pretty sure it's a toy plane, as evidenced by being like six inches long. Presumably someone at the Court gave it to him. Maybe they all get a special toy allowance with their new human accommodations?

As long as it's anyone good (or at the very least NOT disney) and Tom gets full creative control, I'm totally hoping this too. Or animated movie(s) For a moment, I misinterpreted the blue-haired boy's statement to mean that he actually was the waterfall before. My mind was blown at the idea of landscapes studying orbital physics. That is a Tomgirl fairy. And although as that other dude said some cultures do get used to it, I'd also have my mind blown if a peice of landscape in a human vessel were to get taught geology.

Late-mark Spitfire, it looks like, except for the lack of cannon in the wings. I never thought I'd see one in Gunnerkrigg Court, though... the theory of being a pilot, becoming a badger, and then changing back again is interesting, but I think, sadly, that it's only a toy.
Annie looks surprisingly happy. She's not usually so... frivolous in any situation. Maybe fairies and ex-badgers are just fun to be around.

I don't know what's wrong with a sentient landscape studying physics/geography. We study biology, after all.
More disturbing is the badger and hedgehog in the same classroom. Don't they have a predator/prey relationship in the wild. I wonder how they feel about that here?

I'd totally go for an animated version of Gunnerkrigg.
And also Annie does look rather uncharacteristically frivolous or happy or something like that - maybe it's because they remind her of the forest?

Maybe they transcend predator-prey relationships when they change to human? Also, the whole toy thing makes me think that they were anthropomorphic talking animals like in Narnia. It's possible that the blue haired girl could have been a water nymph, but perhaps the waterfall was her home previously. Hmm, I wonder what Annie will come up with when they ask her to make something. Why, she'll set the entire room aflame, of course! Maybe not that spectacular, and at the same time explaining that she is a distant descendant of a fire elemental.

Seems to me that Annie has ALWAYS liked being around the forest creatures. Remember how Coyote can make her smile and laugh so easily?
I noticed a couple weeks ago that some of them (mostly boys) have dull hair and girls have shiny hair. It's hard to tell with some of these kids, but I think there are a few boys with shiny hair and a few girls with dull. So I would think that the shiny ones used to be fairies, but that doesn't explain Annie... Maybe the 'normal' creatures have normal hair, and the 'magical' ones, like nymphs and fairies and anwen and others, have shiny hair?
I love that they're all like enormous toddlers. <3 <3 <3 I want to cuddle them all.

I wonder why these particular forest folk chose to come to the court? They seem to have a lot of pride in forest things and I'm guessing they wouldn't be allowed to return for visits. Who or what convinced them to try and pass the test and what are they going to do there after growing out of the school years? Will they become like other court humans or remain their own unique group?

Now I know why Randy's simulations freak Rey out so much. Not only can he see they are not real but that's the kind of thing only etheric beings can do. It must be like uncanny valley for him. Also, I'm wondering if Jones is like that all the time, she is rather emotionless and Coyote does call her Wondering Eye.

Anyone understand to what Tom is referring with "Numbnuts"? I'm usually good at figuring out his little notes, but I'm drawing a blank here. I don't know if it's necessarily pride in forest things so much as just pride in their own individuality... since they're all the same species now I can see why they might like to hold on to things like antlers and waterfalls... especially just to show off to the new girl! But very astute, you're right: I think Rey would definitely feel some disorientation/discomfort when he's used to the dichotomy of the "rules" of physical vs. etheric realms, and experiences them being mishmashed before his eyes. Interesting!

I have a feeling that even though that is the simplest explanation and thus most likely under occam's razor, objects generated by their minds do not appear to conform to any real sense of scale or proportion. *grumbles about exploding headcanon* It exploits a flaw created by switching between realms. Assuming that all else is equal and the full conservation of one's mind in the process, it could be possible to exist in perpetuity by entering the forest in old age, then returning to the Court in a new, youthful body, returning again once that body begins to die, etc. Suddenly, immortality.

As in old Badger becomes old Man. Then there wouldn't be immortality from it.

I wonder how much of this showing off is an "impress the pretty girl" kind of thing. Of course, since one of the students showing off in the last panel is a girl, apparently even the girls want Annie. And all this attention is coming from students who'd once been forest-folk; it's always the etheric beings (or ex-etheric beings, in this case) who get really attracted to her, rather than the humans. (Aside from the dubious example of Kat - and I don't think she's really romantically drawn to Annie - none of Annie's regular classmates have shown this kind of attention towards her.)

To those wondering if some of the characters are boys or girls. Look at the --- Ears, Boys have human ears, and the Girls have Fairy ears. --- Hair, Girls have ethereal iridescent hair
Memory of his toy plane. by the way he mentions it, Toy is back at the dorms.
Blue Fairy used to live at a waterfall, either behind the water in a small cave, or along the side of the pool, probably had a small nest, in the roots of a tree, or maybe even inside the tree itself, or third a small cave in the cliff wall next to the waterfall. Either way she once called the waterfall Home.
Making an etheric image is one of the first things Annie learned to do. My guess is Annie will make something colorful,
Fairies, good at learning, love playing, never serious. well at least Annie is popular with oher etherical creatures
I'm curious, what are the glowing marks on some of the fairies? are the markings tattoo versions of blinker stones?

Memory of his toy plane. by the way he mentions it, Toy is back at the dorms. I guess this one makes the most sense without going into a reincarnation deal or anthropomorphic talking animals back in the forest. Thats what I was thinking as well, it was part of what she once considered her home.

I wonder if the fairies will have some advice on how to get rid of Annie's scar. It always upsets me slightly to see that it's still there after all this time, i.e. time not having an affect on its healing process.

Jones is emotionless because she's always dicking around in the ether instead of residing inside her body where she belongs! This is my new headcanon until otherwise stated by Tom. Still doesn't explain how ridonkulus her physical form is (smashing through walls and face-deflecting swords) but at least it gives some weight to Coyote's nickname and explains how she knows so much about everything going on around her. High fives all around, mate!
