How about that!Apparently Coyote is so easily bored that even creating life can't get his full attention for long.

Prediction: without the Ghost of Jeanne, the Glass Eyed Men will enter the Court.

We're starting to get an inkling now of why Coyote was so concerned about the creatures of the forest learning of the tooth knife. For one thing, we now know it has the power to make shadows 3-dimensional, but for another, the shadow people, on learning of the lavish attention Coyote showers on Annie, may have grown jealous and sought to harm her. It could well have been for her protection.

So this is interesting. If I am interpreting this correctly, the Coyote Tooth didn't really create a new type of shadowcreature in the last chapter, but merely unlocked a form long-since forgotten.

Wow! That's epic story beginning. So... They are jealous of humans? Or just hate his own creator? Also: And WHY C' eating Human at last panel? Or he is just turning human into first forest elf? So this is interesting. If I am interpreting this correctly, the Coyote Tooth didn't really create a new type of shadowcreature in the last chapter, but merely unlocked a form long-since forgotten. Looks like so.

Creepy Gollum shadow dude is creepy. Alive without breath As cold as death Never thirsting, ever drinking Clad in mail, never clinking. Drowns on dry land Thinks an island Is a mountain, Thinks a fountain Is a puff of air So sleek, so fair! What a joy to meet! We only wish To catch a fish, So juicy-sweet!

Well, as long as he knows how to eat he should be fine.

It's great of Tom to keep updating over the holidays. If you're reading this, have a merry Christmas and a happy New Year!
I'm curious about the narrator as well.

The narrator for the comic so far has been Antimony at some unseen point in the future. Who's to say this isn't her filling us in on the glass eyed men with information she learns later?

I think that's Jones talking. She's the person that Annie would most likely turn to for that kind of information, and the words also match her style.

The narrator for the comic so far has been Antimony at some unseen point in the future. Who's to say this isn't her filling us in on the glass eyed men with information she learns later? Annie's last piece of narration was in Chapter Fifteen, which was twenty-one chapters ago. Simce then, the narration has either been impersonal (or at most, matches Tom's own voice more than that of the characters), or was Sky Watcher's. Apparently Tom's dropped the idea of "Gunnerkrigg Court" being Annie's memoirs (which would be awkward by now, since a lot of the more recent chapters have been more from the perspective of other characters, especially Kat). The narrator's voice on this page is much more solemn than Tom's voice (that is, the kind of tone Tom uses in the notes), so it could be one of the more serious characters in the story. It might fit Annie (though, as I said, it's been a long time since she was the narrator), or Jones, as someone suggested. And now we know why the shadow-people (apart from Shadow2) hate humans, and it's not just part of the general dislike that the inhabitants of Gilltie Wood hold (meddlers in things that the forest-folk believe should be left alone, tried to enslave the forest-folk to serve them), but out of envy, after Coyote turned his attention to the humans rather than the beings that he formed "in mockery" (to use the Tolkien phrase) of humans.

That human doesn't particularly look like it has captured Coyote's heart. It appears the colloquialism, "the way to a [in this case god's] heart is through his stomach," is rather fitting here.

I'm intensely curious to see how/if this backstory ties in to Red getting a new name. Perhaps she'll recognize the significance of a shadow-freed Shadow2, being that she's a former Forest-creature herself? We know her reactions are...unique. I wonder how she'll respond to that?

I wonder if Shadow2 will look all oily and shiny?
I wonder if Coyote wanted to change them back, but needed (or wanted) to wait until the right shadowperson had come, specifically one who does not hate humans like Shadow2 does. It is like a god to have plans within plans within plans and to have extremely far reaching plans. Who knows, maybe he does have pre-cognition and prophetic visions and other psychic powers like that.

Grammar Patrol wants to destroy the comma after "left them". Also it thought "meager" was American English.

Grammar Patrol wants to destroy the comma after "left them". Also it thought "meager" was American English. I'm pretty sure "left them, forgotten in their meager existence" and "left them forgotten in their meager existence" are not the same thing. It's "left them alone, they who were forgetten in..." vs "left and forgot them in..." ----- So the Coyote Tooth caused atavism on Shadow2? How special.

It's "left them alone, they who were forgetten in..." vs "left and forgot them in..." I think the difference is whether "forgotten" refers to "he" or to "them". "He left her munching on a sandwich" (she was munching) vs. "He left her, munching on a sandwich" (he was munching). And I realize that "their" only matches "them", but that doesn't change that it reads oddly.

I guess Shadow is going to puff out a bit now then, rather than just being upright. The Glass-Eyed Men look a bit like shiny elves, that's going to be pretty hard to hide around the Court.

So the Coyote Tooth caused atavism on Shadow2? How special. Blah blah blah on the grammar stuff. Anways, while at first, he was still as flat as a sheet, he hasn't seemed to 'fill out' completely yet. Obviosuly he is solid and has mass when Parley hugs him, but given the lack of any features, shading or even an oil-like sheen as in the (maybe) proto-shadowman, it's hard to tell whether he is fully 'fleshed out' or not. However, given that we aren't seeing the back of the hood and that it seems rounded (compare to Robot when he has the hood up), I would say he probably is fully 3D by now. As for the human, yea it does look like Coyote is eating him/her. Could be some kind of metaphor and theres the spiral taking the place of Coyotes eye. With eating, sleeping, etc, everything about being 3D and being a normal organism is going to be new to him. At least mostly because he knows his friends eat, sleep, and need water, among other things. Ulysses: Maybe they're Gunnerkriggs version of Night Elves or Drow?

Straight from Tom's mouth after a rather rude Formspring question asked tom what would happen to the comic if he died suddenly (THIS IS PARAPHRASED): If I died tomorrow the auto-updater would keep on updating the website until there were no more comics, or when web hosting runs out. Whichever happens first. Tom always has at least 30 pages of buffer as a minimum, he's just a effiecient and clever dude like that.

Heartless, heartless everywhere! Oh hell, I was trying to figure out why I had a sudden urge to beat things to death with a giant key after seeing that panel. Next page: Annie teams up with Donald and Goofy to destroy Coyote before he and his army of shadows can kidnap the Princesses of Heart. Kat is later unlocked as an optional party character, whereupon Goofy is never heard from again except during cutscenes where he inexplicably reappears for the sole purpose of ruining moments of dramatic tension. ANYWAY, back to the topic of the comic I am excited to learn more about the forest! I am also excited to have five thousand more questions raised for every fact we learn!
