Getting kicked out by his own family? Damn, thats harsh, and no wonder Robot doesn't want Shadow to feel lonely.
@fwq: Yea, and not sure whats with the fadeout panels.

OK, officially? Weirdest. Ship. Ever. This has come just a little out of nowhere. On the plus side, the Cargo Ship page at tvtropes.org will get a new entry!

OK, officially? Weirdest. Ship. Ever. The phrasing leads me to think he means platonic love. Sort of like a drunken "I love you, man!", only with robots and magic.

It's definitely a platonic bromance, wait ro-mance, no... robot-mance, bah, never mind! I think it speaks of Diego that his robots are capable of love, also 651 Diego wanted Jeanne to always have company and never be lonely. Perhaps another Diego-legacy for Robot? I think we'll be joining Shadow 2 on Monday, he better be alright, it would be awfully embarrassing to get upset over fictional shadows and robots.

I'm really, really getting a bad feeling here. Shadow also looked kind of like he didn't want Robot to worry about him ("I'll hold them off, don't worry, I'll be fine, I'll catch up with you later"), and that fade to black can't mean anything good. :/
I really hope Shadow's OK.

that fade to black can't mean anything good. I think it just means we are going to jump back to the other group, and the consecutive silent panels means that Kat was unsure of how to react.

Man and I thought Hanna is Not a Boy's Name was weird with the whole zombie/magic ginger kid bromance thing. At least both of those characters had (probably, maybe) been humans at some point. Now I'm conflicted though because as a lady I tend to find all bromance pretty much universally adorable, however as a person I think Robot is creepy as hell and Shadow has somehow been ingrained in my mind as a child. So having the creepy one say he loves the childish one has me going OGODWAT in a number of ways.

That's horrible that Shadow 2 was kicked by his own family...
P.S.: Looks like they are just like brothers...

Now we know why Shadow2, after setting the story in motion by wanting Annie to get him back to the forest, ended up deciding to come back to the Court after all.

It's platonic, not 'shipping' romantic love, clearly.

The cut gave him knowledge of himself, he realized he was alone. This realization drove him mad. He wept.

Seriously, it's a robot. How much sense does the "platonic/non-platonic" distinction make, if you try not to antropomorphize too much just for a second? (Zero)
Shadow people are a completely different story, though ;-)

I'm reminded of Pony Cop. www.johnnywander.com/files/comics/233.jpgIn all seriousness, though, this is cool to see. Robot and Shadow are pretty interesting characters, and this strip adds a new wrinkle to their personalities. Now we need MORE SHADOW2 -- quick, scene change!

I think Robot has just become one of my favorite characters ;_; I also love Kat so much more now because of how empathetic she is towards him.

Poor Shadow and Robot. I really hope Shadow is okay. The next page should show how he's dealing with his shift in dimensions. I think the fading panels also makes Robot's statement have more impact. He realizes how important his friend Shadow is to him.

(Zero)Shadow people are a completely different story, though ;-) Gunnerkrigg Court robots are more emotional than humans, so we should be anthropomorphizing quite a bit. Agreed. Robot functions as a fully rounded and integrated character here, not just a machine or an automaton-foil for the characters who matter. It seems - if not the Court robots in general - that Robot does have a greatly increased capacity to "love" over most robots. And while the sexual aspect is a part of 'romance' for humans, that doesn't mean romance cannot exist for non-sexual beings.

If Annie had said "why didn't I realize it before? I love my good friend, Kat" none of us would be arguing that it was platonic
Why should it be different for robots and shadows?

If Annie had said "why didn't I realize it before? I love my good friend, Kat" none of us would be arguing that it was platonic Why should it be different for robots and shadows? Well, robots don't have any fiddly bits, from what we've seen so far, so their love is unambiguously platonic, regardless of its strength. With Annie and Kat (or any other pairing that includes two equally capable participants) the question can at least be realistically posed.

Gunnerkrigg Court robots are more emotional than humans, so we should be anthropomorphizing quite a bit. Hence "too much" ;-) Robot functions as a fully rounded and integrated character here, not just a machine or an automaton-foil for the characters who matter. It seems - if not the Court robots in general - that Robot does have a greatly increased capacity to "love" over most robots. And while the sexual aspect is a part of 'romance' for humans, that doesn't mean romance cannot exist for non-sexual beings. Hey, I agree 100%. It's just when I read "it's platonic" it felt to me like "it's not *love* love, it's just platonic love". All I'm saying is, for one such as Robot the distinction might be entirely moot.

If Annie had said "why didn't I realize it before? I love my good friend, Kat" none of us would be arguing that it was platonic I would. Well, not exactly. That's the position I would personally take, but I would never actually share it on this forum because the discussion would inevitably become a clusterfrack that I wouldn't want to touch with a 40-foot pole.
