Don't they need to get back to the dorms soon, anyway?
Edit: Apparently, this was post 58,000. Holy crap, I never knew this forum had so many posts.

Maybe he doesn't need to sleep anymore, like Zimmy?

Since this isn't the final page, this chapter is now at least as long as the two other longest chapters. WILL IT BE LONGER OR WILL IT TURN OUT THE NUMBER 43 IS OF SPECIAL SIGNIFICANCE FOR TOM? FIND OUT ON FRIDAY!

Hmmmmm........I definitely hear the sound of a ship coming into port....... Also, hello everyone. I recently discovered Gunnerkrigg on a friend's recommendation and binged my way through the story in about 2 days. Been reading the forums for a week or so since then and decided to join in. I must say, it sucks going from just clicking next on the strip to having to wait 2 days for a new one

My understanding of shipping is that it occurs in the face of logic and evidence, so the metaphoric iceberg that is Jack's feelings for Zimmy may not actually sink this little Titanic. Exhibit A: Looks like, Annie likes him now) Also, thanks for the welcome!

I must say, it sucks going from just clicking next on the strip to having to wait 2 days for a new one I know that feel, man. Although I took quite a bit longer to get through the comic, the two years ago (wow, it's been that long?) that someone recommended this comic to me. You know how you remedy that? You buy the books, and read them over, and over, and over... And post too much in this forum, haha.

Don't they need to get back to the dorms soon, anyway? They probably forgot about that - though they'd better remember soon, if they don't want to get caught. Maybe they're too sleepy now to care.

Guys, stop sleeping like that.
It's bad for your backs.

Huh, looks like this resolves all the theories about the misconceptions that may arise from Jack coming down with Annie while here hair is undone. But, damn, they literally spent the whole night chatting? Sore throats much? Guys, stop sleeping like that. It's bad for your backs. They're teenagers. Let them cherish the times where they can still sleep like that and recover from any backache within an hour. Gods, I feel old. Maybe he doesn't need to sleep anymore, like Zimmy? I think so too... Also: look at his face - he is not droplets the sleepy. But Zimmy mentioned that he could sleep now after squishing Whitelegs. Maybe he just sleeps through his morning classes since his Whitelegs-enhanced smarts makes him find classes boring or something.

The only reasonable explanation for so many torpedoes is that it is the one true pairing.

Just make sure all this playful banter doesn't turn into a real argument.
That's the core thing about shipping that I don't like.

The arguments that turn into serious business. Like that guy here who got banned for essentially calling Tom a homophobe when page 927 came out and it looked like JackxAnnie was confirmed (boy, did that guy look even stupider by the next page).
Arguments like that ruined the Harry Potter and Avatar: The Last Airbender forums for me. I actually don't mind the act of shipping itself (I'm not particularly invested in any one ship here).

Hahaha, oh wow, must have missed that. I can't honestly belive how horrible a Harry Potter forum would be with shipping discussions EDIT - that turn into srs bznz, of course. I don't mind the shipping either

I think there's still a chance of some JackxAnnie at some point in the future since they're acting pretty friendly right now and I kind of doubt that Jack's thing for Zimmy is going to last forever. But I don't know if I'm very good at shipping 'cause I haven't got my heart set on it. I'll probably be happy no matter what (I've never yet been disappointed in any development in this webcomic). Glad you joined us.

The only reasonable explanation for so many torpedoes is that it is the one true pairing. it's too bad the author didn't join the Navy, he'd be an admiral right now because he's so good at sinking ships

Am I to assume that that was the plan? For them to sneak out at night a) because they could and b) just to chat?
Man I miss being that young ;_;

This page is the most adorable page. I love the way Tom can write and draw the characters just hanging out and being themselves and make it utterly engrossing.
Looking back over the last few chapters, I'm really surprised at how important Jack has become to the story. When he was first introduced I never dreamed he'd go through so much development.

The thing about Jack's crush on Zimmy is it's bound to remain unrequited. I mean Zimmy not only already has a girlfriend but she seems to hate every single other person in the world. She's really really not available. And I would kind of hope Jack would have enough respect for Gamma to not even try and make a play for her.
Which doesn't mean I particuarly want to see him end up in a relationship with another character instead (I don't) but if I knew him in real life, I'd be advising him to look elsewhere.

Am I to assume that that was the plan? For them to sneak out at night a) because they could and b) just to chat? It's hard to believe that they considered that worth the difficulties of both sneaking out and back in (especially the latter, given the flaw in the girls' plan that they recognize at the beginning of the chapter), but then, I'm not a teenager. At least they didn't go anywhere dangerous this time. There might be one advantage (storywise) to Jack's attraction towards Zimmy; it might give Zimmy and Gamma more integration into the webcomic. They seem largely independent of the story, too engrossed in their own concerns to pay attention to the rest of the people at the Court. I think that Tom's having created them independently of "Gunnerkrigg Court" has a lot to do with that; their presence in it reminds me of the presence of Tristram and Iseult in the legends of King Arthur or Tom Bombadil in "The Lord of the Rings" - an originally independent story that was pulled into a larger story, but never quite settles into it. (Note, for example, that nearly all the dramatizations of "The Lord of the Rings" - the Bakshi movie, the BBC radio adaptation, the Jackson movies - leave Bombadil out.) But maybe Jack could anchor them more in the main story. (Maybe - I certainly don't think that Zimmy will reciprocate his affection.)

That's an interesting idea, although my feeling about Zimmy is that her effectiveness as a character is centred around her sporadic appearances and her mysterious background.
At the moment, we don't really know what is going to happen when she shows up, but we know it will be exciting. If she were to enter the story more frequently I think the shocks that she provides to the story would diminish. Perhaps it is better if that doesn't happen.
Don't get me wrong, I'd love to know more about her. I just think that from a narrative perspective, she works better as an unknown entity
