Note how Paz seems to prefer to sit on the armrest of Matt's comfy chair, rather than taking the vacant one right next to it.

I should have known that Tom would not answer anything important so quickly. Oh, well. Mandolins are cool, too.
Also, the perspective is screwing with my mind, or I have to assume that Kat scooted her chair closer to hear the story. (Panel 4 makes it seem like Kat is all the way at the far end of the table, but then Panel 5 has Kat much closer and in the middle of the table.)
Yeah... no. Using Bud as a focal point, it's just awkwardly drawn perspective unless Bud moved over, too. But then we have the kids on the other side of the table, and that pretty much fries my brain in trying to figure out everyone's position. Don't worry, Tom. You're still a great artist, but this one little thing is driving me crazy.

Hmmm... it seems as though artistic license has allowed Kat's chair to magically slide closer to the John between the 4th and 5th panels.

I would like to think that rather than use lines to explicitly indicate motion, pretty much just scooted over to that side between panels. Subtle, and quick. I don't feel this is against the rules. Everyone does that during storytime.

And for bud to slide his bucket from one end of the table to the other. Honestly, it seems like Tom needs to work on his perspectives somewhat, or maybe he is experimenting around with perspective.

Here's hoping that it was Mort doing the haunting.

I love Tom's little comment at the bottom. They are so often one of the best parts. Is anyone around who has one of the books? Did Tom include his comments along with the strips? I can't imagine some strips without the comment... like the famous "My school had one of these. No wait, they had a bike rack." or "Thank you for reading this chapter about girls getting haircuts." or "IN YOUR FACES"

That's not QUITE true. He includes those random renderings of the characters, and those pretty compilation pages in the books. It does look like they're just socializing this chapter, eh? That's nice. Ten bucks something crazy happens.

So this is short tale number one. I'm hoping 2 or 3 will be about the haunted teapot.

Look at how they all paired off. And Kat with Bud. After birds, small married sapient crab-like beings aren't that far away. It's a slippery slope.
(You may apply brain bleach now.)

First a cursed tea-pot, and now a haunted mandolin? The Court is just full of strange stuff.
When I was in secondary school, the sixth year students had their own common room where we sat around on beat up old couches and some people would play music. This reminds me of that. NOSTALGIA!!!

No. The books actually have slightly less content than the online pages. I think that Tom was right to leave the bottom-of-the-page comments out of the books. They would break up the flow of the story, make it seem less like a graphic novel and more like a collection of "gag strips".

That mandolin reminds me of the one my great grandmother had. I always wanted to learn to play it, but never did... Maybe it's still around somewhere... Dammit, why did I have to see his when I'm 400 miles from home?!

"Tell us the story of the mandolin!"
"Sure."
Come and listen to a story about a man named Jed A poor mountaineer, barely kept his family fed, Then one day he was shootin at some food, And up through the ground came a bubblin crude...

I'm guessing this is the start of one of the short tales. Whatever Annie's telling Jack may be the second.
I'm liking seeing the other characters interact a little more. Since it's always Kat and Annie, it's nice to see them talking to other people.

It definetly looks like that THIS is the place where they intended to go for their outing anyways. I know some have said they could socialize at school, but its more fun to sneak out and besides, they have a chaperone.
The boys dorm could actually still be underwater for all we know as that place looks like a bar or something.
I'm still waiting for the waiter/waitress to show up....
