Heh, I love this guy already. That said, it looks like we're in for ten tons of awkward with the next page.

Looks like I was right about the boys' escape plan.
Lets hope Annie 'n Jack can get a long better now that Annie's a crazy wild child.

Obviously the Court takes a lot of care with its choice in dorm supervisors.
Anyways, seems like we get AWWKWARD Annie & Jack, followed by learning why the kids have snuck out anyway.

I'll bet in the next page all Jack talks about is this girl he met over the summer vacation!

Bud the mutant blue crab definitely seems like an awesome guy. Also, whoever thought that he and Lindsey were telepathically connected were wrong. Although it doesn't rule out telepathy when they are near each other. That being said, I wonder how they communicate between each other. There is a possibility that Lindsey is capable of speech, it's just that her vocal cords or whatever is being used is so big that the sound is too deep in pitch for humans to hear.
These merostomatazons must have some interesting biology and life history. At least we know approximately what Lindsey looks like as she is 1000 or more the size of Bud.

Jack didn't go on summer vacation. He stayed at the Court.

Heh, Bud you rascal! I hope he's not gonna turn out to be one of those embarrassing "hip" adult who tries to be "cool" by hanging out with kids. And Kat, as always, is remarkably on top of relationship issues. ;D It seems though that she might be the figuratively fifth wheel there.

That said, it looks like we're in for ten tons of awkward with the next page. The last panel reminds me of the second and fourth panels here. Good catch! I'd forgotten about the elbow check; the poses are pretty similar. And the immediate result of that encounter was sure awkward! Smitty and Parley both seem to have gotten past that phase now, though, in epic partyhat fashion. ;D It remains to be see if and how Annie and Jack work through their own emotional/relational issues. I'm not rooting one way or the other, but look forward to seeing where Tom's going to go on this one. He's already given us many different relational types: - Smitty and Parley happy together in new love - Alistair and Kat's first love shortened by a necessary departure - Jeanne and Elfguy in the tragic betrayal death thing - whatever the backstory is with Eglamore/Jones/Surma - the unrequited love (and abuse of said) between Reynardine and Surma - the trying-to-save-the-dying-spouse thing with Carver and Surma (made worse since Carver may feel it is his fault, and he may not have been told by Surma until after Annie was born) - the fairly normal, happy marriage of Donald and Anja - the fairly abnormal, happy marriage of Bob and Marcia Annie and Jack did go through a rather significant ordeal together. People who have shared a traumatic experience sometimes develop feelings for each other, an odd mix of friendship and romantic interest that can be difficult to interpret for both the bearer and the receiver. Add on top of that the age that Annie and Jack are at, Annie's personal relational future (which she knows but Jack does not,) and it's anyone's guess what will happen. But perhaps they will just decide to become friends. Annie doesn't really have any normal male friends, so that could be a good thing for her.

I don't think Bud needs to worry about being hip, he's a crab.
Or maybe a lobster, who knows? (I don't)

Kat ships it, guys. (That and panel 5 are kind of reason one million and one million and one to love her character)

Wait, is Kat wearing both the jammer and the beacon? I'd suppose she took the buzzer off the bag's belt and pinned it on the coat's collar when the put the bag down, which apparently happened off-screen during panel 4.

Gotta echo the Bud love. It's awesome how much of an impression one page can make. Although, now I feel bad for being such an avid lover of seafood, especially crustaceans. so am i the only one that hates it when Annie is anywhere near Jack? Probably not, but whatever the case, I hope no stupid shipping arguments erupt from this. I'm more from the "if it happens, it happens; if not, it doesn't" school of shipping, which I guess means I'm not much of a shipper at all.

Obviously the Court takes a lot of care with its choice in dorm supervisors. I agree! If Bud wasn't so cool, they would have sneaked out without him. Now he can still keep an eye on them. Or several!

Ah, Hyland. I see you over there, lounging loungishly on the bar, trying to look utterly unconcerned with whether Carver says hello to you or not. Nix that James Dean air immediately, young man. It will get you nowhere with this savvy miss. : |
Also - dang, Annie's really getting tall compared to Kat. Has this been previously noted? They used to be fairly close in height, but either Annie is shooting up or Kat isn't growing much...

With the size of her coat and insect, and standing behind Kat from the look of things, it seems Annie is a regular hulk. Also: bubble colour in last comic not fixt!

P.S.: I already love Bud) And also: why he is so small? Did boys make him small somehow? Its a case of extreme sexual dimorphism within the merostomatazon species, unless Lindsey is some kind of mutant and grew to immense size, it seems to be the way the species evolved. Also - dang, Annie's really getting tall compared to Kat. Has this been previously noted? They used to be fairly close in height, but either Annie is shooting up or Kat isn't growing much... I don't think it has been noted before. However, in the brief flashback in S1, Surma is almost a head taller than Anja, about the same height relationship that Annie and Kat are now. Yea, the insect she has is alot larger for some reason or other.

Thanks to Max I'm having flashbacks to the Jameson robot from Ghost In The Shell "well howdy partner!"
Annie and Jack might have completely different chemistry now due to Annie's time in the forest and Jack no longer being under the influence of a creepy spider from the frightening depths of Zimmy's mind, but that doesn't mean it will be a good thing! Bud can indeed keep an eye on them (anyone notice the row of them going down his back?) but how strict his gaze can be is another question. I don't know in detail but talking blue crabs might enjoy a really wild party.
Jack's casual leaning against the bar not looking at Annie would be a good idea on anyone else.

I'm more from the "if it happens, it happens; if not, it doesn't" school of shipping, which I guess means I'm not much of a shipper at all. About the only webcomic shipping I've ever enjoyed was the crack pairings thread on Order of the Stick. If there were such a thread here, we'd probably get a story about a romance between Jack's spider and Bud. Or between Kingbot and Ysengrin.
