Anyways, we're going to have to wait until Monday to find out whether this is a good thing or bad thing. Dang cliffhanger.
Also, any chance the symbol that was scratched out was related to the Jewish golem (golem of Prague I think?)? You know, the one with the hebrew word life on the forehead and if you scratch out one letter it means death. In any case, they're going to have a hard time deactivating this guy if he turns out to be a bad choice for reanimation.
This chapter has Dr. Frakenstein written all over it.....

The whom part is probably easy, Diego, since it was his lab and probably the only one in the court in his time with enough knowledge of how to shut them down. Theres still the possibility that they were shut down after Diego died, again, we run into the question of why and it seems like none of the modern robots have any knowledge or memory of anything passed down. I'd certainly like to know who is the oldest working non-diego constructed robot. |

Whats the green stuff leaking out of the eyes? Just motion blur, I think. All the original models (with some very minor exceptions) have been deactivated, and I figure in the same way, too. I really doubt Diego would do that to his children before he passed away. Also, breaking them in this way would seemingly require only a very cursory understanding of his work and a nail (fixing them, well, not quite so ;-) ) So, a question remains of who did it, and for what. I, for one, find it very interesting and expect the originals to have some important things to say. |

Not necessarily, one tiny scratch was enough to shut it down before, after all. And I think Kat has about a hundred robots of newer make right there that would back her up if push came to shove. Aaah! So if they're all shut down that means it was a deliberate effort to deactivate the whole generation of robots near-undetectably. Again, not necessarily. It could just be regular damage that after Diego's death no one was able to repair. It's a couple of centuries without anybody who really understood how the robots work, after all. Enough time for them to just fall victim to accidents and erosion one by one. The newer robots could easily have fixed their exterior so that this wasn't self-evident. But yeah, sabotage is also an option. |

Yes, but are those ALL of the origionals? Aside from the mini-models and the skull headed bot. Although the skull headed bot looks more like it could be a shell or something, devoid of any actual working mechanics or golem heart plug. Anyways, if this guy turns out to be harmless, he'll be in for some culture shock for sure. Edit: Hey, maybe we'll get an approximate century out of this guy of when he was around. Depending on the date Tom chooses, it may create a few minor plot holes, but then again, there are tons of unknowns and unanswered questions. |

Nothing that the OP can't fix real quick.  On the subject of the actual page; Tom sets these up to leave us hanging over the weekend, doesn't he? Our new/old robot has responded forcefully, but not necessarily violently (yet). There could be any number of reasons why he automatically moved to grab Kat's hand - automatically defending his heart, was in the process of trying to defend his heart when it was scratched and he shut down. Its what the robot does next that I think will be interesting - we might be able to learn more about Deigo's personality from how his creations act. This is, of course, assuming that Annie/Robot/all the other robots don't automatically come to Kat's aid before anything else can be done. |

I'm confused about the drama that was enacted in front of the shrine when Kat installed S13's chip in the original model. If the robots are deactivated, how did they applaud, and if they weren't deactivated, what keeps them quiet now? Alternatively, were the members of that audience a whole 'nother population, not fully "real" robots, just limited-purpose wind-up toys for that production?
That there are court robots that have damaged hearts is fine, but I'm not partial to intermittent glitches. Hard to troubleshoot something that's only broken part of the time...

I like that it took Kat more than 12 hours to make a bypass for that one scratched symbol. Usually in stories the character just solders on a wire to the contacts on either side and calls it good. Apparently this technology is a little more intricate and delicate.
Also, it appears that they are at a fairly high latitude*, given the line of the ecliptic that we see here. Anybody want to bother hazarding a guess? It would help if we knew the time of year.
*Of course, it could be southern as easily as northern, but my first guess would be northern given recent vacations to Europe and the primarily European-descent population.

If the robots are deactivated, how did they applaud, and if they weren't deactivated, what keeps them quiet now? How about this: They are broken enough to be unable to function autonomously. Their "hearts" are damaged, and that is the only thing no one was able to repair so far. As such they cannot run complex programs (i.e. their artificial intelligence is disabled), but other than that, they are "mechanically perfectly sound", as Kat already diagnosed back then. The clapping in response to S1 killing the Bullbot was most likely a scripted response, i.e. a pre-defined set of instructions that they automatically run through, without the need of higher functions. Also, it appears that they are at a fairly high latitude*, given the line of the ecliptic that we see here. Anybody want to bother hazarding a guess? It would help if we knew the time of year. I'm fairly certain that Tom stated somewhere that the Court is located somewhere in the UK. |

It would have to be the northern hemisphere, given the direction the setting sun was moving. If it were south of the equator, it would move from upper right to lower left. Quite aside from that, though, it has been strongly implied, if not confirmed, that GKC is in the UK. |
