www.gunnerkrigg.com/archive_page.php?comicID=863I beat you Max! at least i really hope i do, because if not, this will look a bit stupid.Edit: Yes! I actually did, i won the game Anyways, this looks kinda bad for our two main babes, that lobster monster looks like it'll be hard to outrun. I guess Annie will have to break out some of her awesome new forest mojo, and kick it's ass with her fire-ninja skills.

I can't believe I got so ready to beat this thing only to get distracted watching a roast of The Last Airbender. We'll settle this on Monday.

I think it's probably just curious, but the more they scream and run around the more likely it is to become dangerous :/

So, according to Kat, the dorms are in a giant water tank? Makes some sense since theres a giant mutant hermit crab in there.

Hmm. It seems very impractical to put the new dorms in a tank containing a dangerous monster. One cannot imagine that the Court does not know of the entry of a creature that big into an artificial environment. Therefore, unless the Court really is that reckless/daft, three possibilities come to mind.
1) The monster is not dangerous.
2) These are not the new dorms, and the monster was deliberately inserted by someone.
3) These are the new dorms, and the monster was deliberately inserted by someone.
Have 2) and 3) occurred to anyone else yet? After all, Jones moved all of Annie's possessions there herself. Whether these are the new dorms and someone is taking advantage of their being the first two students back, or these are not the new dorms and someone has deliberately misled Rey, Annie, and (maybe) Kat in order to orchestrate this event...
...the possibility of its being orchestrated seems worth considering.
After all, it wouldn't be the first time Jones has sent Annie into what at least appears to be a dangerous situation for ulterior motives of her own. Her reasons may even be excellent - anywhere from testing Annie's loyalties after her summer away, to enlisting her assistance with a strange infestation of giant crabs, to attempting to galvanize a reunion with her closest friend. (Heaven forbid the potential future medium should end up with friends mostly only in the Forest.)
Just a theory, but it seemed interesting enough to post.

The fact that the creature actually has access to the dorms makes me believe that it is intended to have access to the dorms.

It's probably too big to actually get out through the moon pool, and they could just block off the door for its smaller claws.

I think it's probably just curious, but the more they scream and run around the more likely it is to become dangerous :/ Maybe. Kat was doing just fine until her 'get eeked out by icky thing and scream shrilly' switch flipped on. Still, considering the things size, they are probably safer inside, that way they can easily avoid the larger claws until they are absolutely sure it's friendly.

The fact that the creature actually has access to the dorms makes me believe that it is intended to have access to the dorms. I don't know, the court seems pretty incompetent about its internal and external security. I mean, it's had intruders from the forest, which were only stopped when the court protector (essentially just one guy) came in and stabbed them. Annie's been able to run out onto the bridge more than once, and was again only stopped (or just mildly inconvenienced, as last time) when Eglamore ran out after her. And then there was that time that Jack broke into a highly-sensitive scientific facility, started it, and nearly turned into an eldrich abomination. I think we have to face the fact that the people running the court's security are either dangerously incompetent, malicious, or possibly both at the same time.

Most likely controls Super Awesome Force Shield of Science at bottom of moon pool. Keeps creatures out. Most likely was turned off by Annie earlier in the day.

Renard should be nearby, I'm sure he heard the screams and noise.
Anyways, with a mouth (and mouths) that big, I wonder what it eats? Hopefully it just eats tiny organisms like fish and plankton.
Also, I wonder where that small claw arm is attatched to? It seems to be coming from just behind the head in 862, but it isn't seen in 861.

I just processed the educational and recreational implications of a moon pool in the dorms. How frickin' cool is that?
Now I'm more certain that the button Annie pressed is what called the crab to them. Ideally a teacher would be the one to push the button in order to show the crab to a class. That also presents a scenario for Kat to save Annie: by figuring out the console in order to send the crab away.
Why wasn't the console locked? Why is the crab even there in the first place? Surprise, I've got a theory about that too. The Court has a very "Survival of the Fittest" mentality; it just loves to create potentially dangerous situations and see who floats to the top. Just look at how Jones handled the power plant incident; instead of fixing everything herself, she let the kids run to see if they could fly.

Normal Speculation: They aren't really in any danger unless they make it mad. This is the Court's answer to swimming with dolphins. Giant crab just wants to be friends.
April Fool's Day Speculation: They aren't really in any danger unless they make Cthulhu mad. The Court founders were all friends of Cthulhu and they want the students to be friends with Cthulhu too. And Cthulhu just wants to be friends.

If they've gone to the trouble of totally eliminating any kind of privacy by including some sort of tracking nanobots in the food, I think there's something going on with it beyond just apathy. I like the idea that they're basically just putting these kids in dangerous situations and seeing if they die or not, like some kind of fucked-up mass experiment. Seeing as that's pretty much what happened with Jack, I think there's some evidence to support that theory, too. As to justification, well, based on past events we know these people have a huge hard-on for super-science of dubious value, and a terminal lack of moral qualms or compunctions.

wait a moon pool?
I wonder what sort. This whole complex could be built under water or it could be just touching the water below.
Moon pools dont deal with artificial water storage do they?
I wonder which.

edited my post cause i was satisfied with its clarity, your answer still applies though :3 Dancing the water line, surely then :3 <3 hmmm, thats an elevator right? The last panel's room is obviously diff. And they've moved down. or.. my dimensions are completely confused here www.gunnerkrigg.com/archive_page.php?comicID=847ah wait i get it. The dorm rooms are submerged underwater. I was thinking they were high up in that big room with the catwalk. Silly me. *** and here's the room they must be in. The dimensions are flowing in my perception once more :# www.gunnerkrigg.com/archive_page.php?comicID=851wait...annie's tinkering in that link above..nah probably didnt cause this. not like srz6 could mean anything.

I think that "SHFFF" in panel 5 is an airlock sound. Perhaps the elevator shaft also works as an airlock. Would save some time whenever someone is going up or down I guess... EDIT: also - the room they are currently in can't possibly fit into that box seen in panel 1 on this page, so I'm pretty sure it's underwater.
