Something gets ahold of Kat.
Annie saves her using her super fire-lady powers.
They reconcile properly.
Kat orders Annie to explain what the hell she just did to save her. Annie then goes into her past.
Optimally, we see a "Get away from her, you BITCH!" moment as Annie storms in for the rescue!

What is that in the lower left corner (panel 7)? Reflections? Lights from the submerged dorms shining through? Some unnameable aquatic horror!?
Also: Kat is scaring me. She's unnervingly understanding and more mature than most grown ups would be about this!

Nah, most grown ups are more immature than they should be. They just don't want to give up the perks of childhood but want all the perks of adulthood at the same time.

Hm. As Annie has already said "I think I make people nervous" ([622]).
Yeh. That's true. Looks like Kat needs some time to recognize and forgive what Annie have done.

She just came from the elevator, I guess those are the lights from the actual dorms.

The important thing is that Kat, while obviously deeply upset about Annie running off for the summer, still considers Annie her friend. It's just strained the hell out of their relationship at the moment. Whatever's in the water will attack. Maybe we'll see Kat walking back, something makes a noise, and she looks up at something off panel.
We cut inside to Annie, who may or may not be on the ground hugging her knees and may or may not be crying a bit, and we hear the scream.
Then Annie goes full-on hero and, I dunno, ignites the whole area so that the water evaporates.

I don't think any things going to attack, if there's anything dangerous in the water it would be kind of stupid for the school to put the dorms in there.
...unless it snuck in I suppose, a Forest creature or something.

I wonder if Coyote is having a final test of character for Annie. A forest creature attacks Kat, and the only way for Annie to fight it off is with the Coyote tooth. Of course, this means revealing the tooth to the creature. Annie needs to make a choice. Her friend or her hand?

Kat would just make her a robot hand. Exactly. Unfortunately, at this point, also very unlikely (How would the creature get there in the first place ?). But then again, unless Tom is giving us a dead end, why have the bind in the first place?

There are very few absolutes in this situation, and for that i am exceedingly grateful.

Annie becomes a forest protector, Kat becomes a court leader. Epic climax battle. Former friends are now bittersweet enemies at war. Kat becomes this strips' main antagonist by the end.

Maybe it's the way we're being led towards, but it seems all (really) gradual... I don't know if they'll be able to get out of this Annie's fiery character vs Kat's icy attitude soon enough. I'm expecting more changes, not just Kat's, towards Annie within the court.

She's being honest and upfront about how she feels and how Annie's actions affected her--it hardly guarantees for an instant reconciliation, but it is hopeful. Even if it makes reading the page a little sad a the moment. Hmmm, I can actually see something like that happening--and it'd actually be pretty cool, it could give us a glimpse of some of the things Annie learned over the summer. And the thought occurred to me while reading your post as well as similar ones--if this happened, perhaps Kat won't be the only one to witness it. It'd be interesting to see what would happen if a few of their fellow classmates, who on their way into moving into their new dorm caught sight of FieryAnnie using her powers. It's already been shown that her classmates find her a bit odd, can you imagine if they saw her in full forest get-up wielding fire at her fingertips? The title of the chapter sort of suggests this--"She Came from the Forest" sort of reminds me of something people could whisper behind her back. Not to mention it sort of echoes the sentiments shown here during Surma's time. Then again, I might be reading waaaay to much into things. It's a fun thought, though.

I think it's a little early to tell. I could see it happening though. Kat would be a perfect antagonist to Annie's Forest guardian. At this point, I don't think Kat is nearly anywhere near to being in such a position--time will tell of course. In the most recent treatise, Kat is shown as being a full representation of the Court through her work with robots and science, yet she seems to be able to appreciate more nonmechanical things such as the pigeons she holds in her hand. Not to mention the strands of Annie's hair wrapped around her arm seems to indicate some sort of tie to the forest through Annie, just as through her Annie is still has ties to the Court. However the fact that they face away from each other and are divided by Jeanne's sword does seem to imply there will be some sort of separation that will force them to focus or ally themselves more to one than the other as you've pointed out.

I kinda doubt whatever's in the water will attack (unless with squirt-guns or water balloons). I don't think they'd stock the dorm aquarium with anything dangerous.
It's too early to say for sure but I'm guessing the yellow lights are a teacher and/or some students getting in some early scuba practice. The exterior lights we saw on the first page of the chapter were blueish.
That reminds me, I wonder if Antimony's next encounter with Eggers will be as pleasant as this one.

I tend to view the way they're standing as "covering each other's back" but obviously YMMV.

Huh. Actually I wonder that as well. By what Jones told Annie when she ran off, she put a lot of people at the Court in danger....And we don't know if that little flare of hers burned Eglamore or not.
Suffice to say it'll not only be awkard, but I wouldn't be too surprised if Eglamore is a tad unpleasant with her because she just acted again without a thought to the ramifications of said actions for the Court. And while we know the reasons why she did it, I think he'll be a little less sympathetic than Kat.

He did love Surma too and learning that Annie reacted the way she did after learning how Surma died, he'd probably be more than willing to forgive her. I doubt he reacted in a calm, collected manner when he heard of her death either. Or he could end up feeling conflicted about his feelings. He'd feel bad for Annie having learned about everything, but then a little angry because Annie was the cause of Surma's death. Like Kat, he might not know how to feel about everything.

Actually, I really wouldn't mind jumping aboard that line of thinking because I have a hard time seeing Kat and Annie being enemies of any sort. And I think it stays more true to their characters. ;D Someone brought up the treatise in another thread and in the light of what the apprehensive attitude toward the Kat and Annie reunion I felt like I had to acknowledge the possibility that we might see something of a rift between our dynamic duo :]
