Cool hairdo, KatApparently there's no correlation between awesomeness of hair and ability to forgive.

Uh oh. I can see a fight coming.
Tom, please have Kat forgive Annie before the end of the chapter. I don't want this to drag out.

Aaaaand Kat is back to being a butt. For a while at least.
(Although I'd probably be a butt too if my best friend ditched me for the summer to go hang out with gods and stuff)

Oh, gracious. The awkward. The awkward. D:
Annie looks almost manic in her eagerness to please. Juxtaposed with Kat's weary blankness like that, her expressions make me feel nervous and apprehensive and racked with guilt on her behalf. Good show, Tom...but badly done, Annie, badly done.

I must admit, the cold indifference was not what I expected. It indicates she's worked through a lot of anger and come to the decision not to be Annie's friend anymore. Ouch.

Oh no! Dramas! Kat isn't going to let this one slide any time soon. Why should she? Kat and Anitmony were going to have three glorious months of nothing to do but buddy around as they traveled across Europe, relaxing far away from the Court of the Forest or any of the politics. And Antimony bolloxes that all up by getting into a fight with her stuffed animal and running away into the woods, boo hoo hoo! Yeah, that's enough for Kat to have developed legitimate feelings of resentment, abandonment, and ultimately indifference. They could have grown together, but Antimony made it so they would have to change apart instead. Decisions have consequences, Carver!

This makes me very sad. But good character development fo sho. I must admit, the cold indifference was not what I expected. It indicates she's worked through a lot of anger and come to the decision not to be Annie's friend anymore. Ouch. Yess...been on the receiving end of that when my best bud stopped talking to me for a long time after I ran off to the army without telling her...NOT a good idea... Feel bad for Annie though...look at her trying ;_; she made BOOTS!

I doubt she has made a decision to part ways with Annie, but I am sure her feelings toward her are complex right now. That said, her blankness was surprising to me. No glaring, just...nothing.

I hate this sort drama. It fills me with dread, as I despair over what was, and still is, a strong relationship breaking down.
May just read the comments for the next few pages. I cannot look, but I am still curious. It is like a train wreak. You cannot look directly, but you want to still peak.

I would have preferred anger to this. It's actually vaguely frightening.

Haha, honestly...personally I was hoping to see them buddy around Europe together enjoying their childhoods. I know stories should have tensions and plots and stuff like that...but when I really feel for the characters...I just want them to have a jolly good time together....forever....i mean, come on.. ^_^;;;;;;

Feel bad for Annie though...look at her trying ;_; she made BOOTS! I wish she had made me those boots. I'm hoping this doesn't set up for another big "I know how to hurt your feelings" fight... I want the indifference to go on for a while, get to know Kat better.

I've had this theory that Kat would forgive Annie, but the resentment would bottle up, until something later would happen that would cause her to call Annie out more forcibly.

Yeah, pretty much what everyone saw coming (well, except the haircut).
I'm hoping to see Kat and Annie part ways semi-permanently, maybe have them with their own cliques in the school. In the beginning they seemed thrown together because of their parent's past relationship and their mutual social awkwardness. It's possible that at this point they've both grown enough to befriend other people.

On Annie's side, her reaction wasnt an over-reaction. It was a completely reasonable reaction to finding out that her very existance is responsible for slowly sucking out the very life-force out of her increasingly ill beloved mother, causing her death [at which point antimony had to "carry her across" as a child] and is [from her point of view and lack of data] why her father was cold towards her.
kat has probably been badly affected by a lack of antimony after she ran away and possibly things she's experienced [possibly changes?] over the summer. Just as Antimony has changed.
Or who knows, the apathy reaction always frightens the hell out of me, in RL or fiction.

dont forget to share that popcorn around well by all means, POPCORN FOR EVERYONE!!1 *fires up the industrial-size megapopcorn makers* I must admit, the cold indifference was not what I expected. It indicates she's worked through a lot of anger and come to the decision not to be Annie's friend anymore. Ouch. This was my exact thought, which is what makes the potentialities here so awesome. Whole arcs worth of angst in store, maybe.

It has its ups (the high moments), downs (the low moments), and curves (the difficult moments), but in the end, it is just a ride. I hope both of them realise this before the chapter ends. I don't want this to become a major point in the story. It is way too cliché (and sad).

I'm thinking Kat might be upset after finding out that Annie was stealing her homework. But more than that, I think she's probably really hurt that simply disappeared for the summer without warning or explanation.
Who wouldn't?
