I'm a little reluctant to get my hopes up, though, lest Anthony has to "attend to some matters."
Anyone here think Surma and Anthony are saying their final goodbyes? I think Annie looks a little too young for that.

I think Annie looks a little too young for that. Unlikely. It looks more like the crushing realization that he can't do anything to save her. If we could see Adult Anthony's face, that would be enough for now.

This is officially the most awesome picture of Annie ever. (it's also a really obvious Boxbot Rule edit)Unlikely. It looks more like the crushing realization that he can't do anything to save her. But Surma is smiling...

Nope. I think Anthony is breaking some news, along the lines of "I'm not making progress and I'm starting to lose hope that I'll actually be able to cure you." I see grief in both of them; I see apology in Anthony's posture, as though he may have made a promise that he's failing to keep. And Surma looks like she expected this and accepts it, though it still causes her pain.

I agree with ryos, and I also thought it was a toothbrush.

Should have been a toothbrush; I just loved the idea of Annie wandering the hospital halls while brushing her teeth. I do that at home sometimes myself.
Oh, and that look on her face when she thinks she's going to spy on her folks and catch them smooching....
My gosh, that room is huge.

It's cool seeing the way Young Annie has evolved artistically.

So...Surma's the one who's dying, and Anthony's the one who needs comforting?
Not the first time I've seen sort of thing.

I take it this is before Annie's awkward angular phase.

I take it this is before Annie's awkward angular phase. Surely you mean her American football-head phase. (Or 'handegg' phase.)

From his Twitter:
"Annie sees something she's never really seen before in today's page." But Annie is clearly there. How is it possible that this comic is something she never seen before.

I'm pretty sure he means the younger Annie sees something she hasn't seen before this incident.
