Dang, I was shooting for a full chapter. Well played. ------------ Didn't Tom say Annie had already apologized?

Annie has on her serious face.
Annie needs some new clothes. Everyone else is going casual, but she's still in her uniform.

This is interesting. I wonder if she'll ask Jack to hack the court's computers to get the full details on this thing.

Wow, I didn't expect to see Jack again so soon. Still, he's looking much better. I wonder what this conversation will be about if what Max says is true.

Also, His hair! It doesn't stick up! </attempt at being funny by jumping on a joke from last chapter> EDIT: So, was Jack just waiting outside the door? Or did Annie meet him somewhere? The row suggests the former, the second suggests the latter to me.

The row of panels is probably a quick way to show that Annie's on the move.

Well hello, Jack! I'm quite excited for the next comic - as I recall, Jack didn't use to be too bad a character before he went crazy and I wonder how much the whole ordeal's changed him.
Great architecture shots in this comic, too.

Monday's comic is a full panel shot of the two of them going at it.
S'truth!

The row of panels is probably a quick way to show that Annie's on the move. Yeah, are they in a city now? It doesn't look like the Court in the last panel with Jack. Also, is Annie actually going to have a conversation with Jack without creepy and/or violent pretenses? Scandalous!

Yeah, the Court really looks like a city here. That just reminds me of Tom saying GC is the size of a city. With architecture that good, it's a shame the place is so empty.

Yay it's Jack!
It just occurred to me that there isn't a single Gunnerkrigg character whose appearance I don't react to with "yay it's X"! That must be a sign of good writing.

Hey! It's NotMyBoyfriend! Was she looking for him, or was this meeting pre-arranged? He looks a bit surprised, so I'm guessing the former.

This is interesting. I wonder if she'll ask Jack to hack the court's computers to get the full details on this thing. That doesn't really explain why Annie lied about what she is doing though - maybe to Anja, but not to Kat. So Annie's having a secret meet up with a boy? Hmmmm.

Oh my, but Annie looks pissed. This will definitely be interesting to watch.
Also, why is everyone assuming that either Annie was looking for Jack, or they worked it out between them? Looks more like a chance encounter to me.
Lastly, I love the little artistic flourishes in Tom's art. Namely, in this page, the leafless tree in springtime, that curves over Jack's head. To me, it's wonderfully suggestive of Jack's somber mood.

Kat was standing right there next to Anja, I don't think Annie could have telegraphed her true intentions without having set something up in advance or tipping off Anja or both. Also she looked pretty mad/serious, so I don't think this is your average date. Edit: Oh my, but Annie looks pissed. This will definitely be interesting to watch. Well, didn't expect this interlude. Should be interesting. Already been swerved a half dozen times and the chapter is only a half dozen strips old.

I think her look of concern is due to her processing the information she just learned... she doesn't like it.
Her meeting Jack may have been planned beforehand or maybe he's been waiting outside her dorm for a while. Since he was sitting facing a bush instead of watching for Annie to pass, and he's not surprised to see her, I'd say the meeting was prearranged.

EDIT: So, was Jack just waiting outside the door? Or did Annie meet him somewhere? The row suggests the former, the second suggests the latter to me. As was said, the quick succession of panels implies that Annies' been walking through the court, probably toward the dorms, (unless she's just walking to clear her head). Jack could be sitting anywhere. I doubt the meeting is intentional, though. Jack seems somewhat surprised to see her. Also, am I the only one who noted Annie's hard look as she turned away from Anja? Annie does NOT like that story about Rey and her mother.

I am so happy. I just realized Jack is a pretty cool character when he's not like, being controlled by a spider.

Looks like Annie is planning something underhand I think Renard will be hearing about what is going on one way or another.

Everything about Jack's pose seems to suggest he's very disturbed by what happened.
Reflective layouts: Annie's head tuns through the first three panels, Jacks head turns through the last three. Spooky.
Or maybe there's only so many ways to show someone turning their head.

I would also say that Jack has planned this meeting. The look on his face in the last panel to me is more nervousness than surprise.
Of course, just like the human face can hold a half dozen emotions at once, Tom's portrayal of the human face also portrays a number of emotions at one time, testifying to Tom's incredible drawing skills. I, on the other hand, try to draw my infant's son's face, and he comes out looking like he's 85.
