The crown.Look at 531. Does this mean we are getting two Jeanne related chapters in a row?

Maybe this means we'll finally find out what happened with Annie's mom? *cross fingers*

Maybe this means we'll finally find out what happened with Annie's mom? *cross fingers* It's possible, since IIRC Surma was the only one referred to as fire-something so far. Or it may be that Annie is a bit more like Surma in this chapter and someone like Rey or Jones takes note.

The crown.Look at 531. Does this mean we are getting two Jeanne related chapters in a row? Possibly, though I sort of hope it's 'just' related to Annie's ability to guide/comfort the dead. The crown in that page is on the image of her dispelling the fire as a child, so it nicely brackets the entire history of her use of her ability.

Ah, true. So it looks like we could be in for more Coyote stuff. Or at least stuff involving someone who may refer to her as fire-hair. Almost forgot to mention that since the last time we saw that symbol it was in the ether, this chapter may be heavy on that too.

Annie's going to turn into some kind of fire person! Kat will also suddenly become really stretchy. ... No?

The crown.Look at 531. Does this mean we are getting two Jeanne related chapters in a row? No fair, Max -- you can't create the thread and make the informed reference to the previous page at the same time! What does that leave for the rest of us to do? I was also going to congratulate whomever found the reference to the flower, but then I noticed that that was you as well... oh all right, congratulations. ;D Seriously though, good find on the flower! I think you may be on the right track there. I found another page with a little more info here: www.plantanswers.com/firespike.htmListen to this (emphasis mine): The Firespike is a plant which solves the problem of most landscapers who have a shady area in which very few plants will grow, much less bloom. Firespike will not only grow in the shade but plants will provide a magnificent display of practically glow-in-the-dark red bloom spikes which attract hummingbirds and butterflies. [...] This plant can be grown in heavy clay soils and wet conditions. A recommendation by some is that some of these plants be dug and potted in late fall and used as blooming house plants throughout the winter. It is one of the most versatile plants and definitely the best blooming plants for shade conditions. Sounds like a plant that may survive growing by the Annan Waters to me. Now what purpose it has in the context of the story, I don't know. I can't find any reference to it being used in any religious/mythical contexts...

The plant is Firespike. The chapter is Fire Spike. Tenuous associations run rampant...
Surma's never been called by a fire-related name that I can recall. The only references I can remember completely off the top of my head were in Coyote Stories when Coyote said Reynardine went into the court to "woo the fiery Surma", and in Jupiter Moon Martians when Reynardine told Annie that "there's a fire in you, just like your mother" or words to that effect.

Hello everyone. Just had to register to share my thoughts on this chapter. Remember when Annie snapped a flower in Gillite Wood? Well, I think it may be related. As you posted, aaroncampbell, Firespikes are plants that grow in the dark, so that can be the dark inside a house, too. I know, my parents have some of these at home. Annan Waters depends. Have we seen the bottom in daylight? Maybe it's oriented east-west, so it gets a lot of sunlight. I'm thinking more Gillite Wood than Annan Waters. That thick tree layer may be the perfect home for firespikes. Also, fire head girl is what Coyote has always called Antimony, so I think it's probably another visit to the forest. Fire can also mean conflict or war, so it can be that there's another "audience" between the court and the wood. The symbol is a crown, so it could be about rulers or princes or something like that. Maybe the headmaster again? or Ysengrin? I don't know, but I see those options more viable than another chapter about Jeanne or Annan waters. Of course, I could be wrong. Anyway, I am almost out of brain juice, so I am going to stop here. If I had any grammar errors, please, point them out, I am spanish and I want to get the best of my "english communication abilities". Also, sorry for the wall of words.

I don't see why a Mexican plant would be growing in the UK. It's not inconceivable, but I don't see why we should automatically make that assumption.

Nobody's mentioned the fact that page 531 (linked by Max) depicts Muut telling Annie that he gave her the blinker stone in hopes that she'd be able to help Jeanne. So, I'd guess either we have more progress helping Jeanne, or progress on Annie's etherial powers.

The crown symbol doesn't appear anywhere on the page in which she dispels the fire. That's not what I meant. Annie, in both images, is standing in a blue gown, hand raised, with an ethereal torrent in front of her. In Muut's recollection of the event (as it seems to me), she has a crown. Perhaps it's just similar imagery, but it seems awfully coincidental when you view the two pages side by side. The only discrepencies are the apparent age of the character and which hand Annie's using. There's even that single strand of fire/ether streaming in from off panel on each. My supposition is that the image in 531 is Muut's view of that same event, as viewed from the ethereal side.
