What does Jeanne mean by what she says here? I'm confused.

What does Jeanne mean by what she says here? I'm confused. "Since the privilege of being safe at the school is due to me, I should be allowed to take away that privilege."

New wild speculation: Jeanne takes Parley's heart and promptly falls for Smitty!
In all seriousness, this is the saddest and scariest story arc so far, in my opinion.

Awesome. Looks like anyone who guessed that all that remained of Jeanne was anger and hatred was right. The blinker stone definitely shed some light on this situation, heh.

I was imagining what Jeanne's angry ghost face would look like a few days ago. This is remarkably close.

I think the most obvious interpretation is that that particular blinker stone, at least, was made possible by her death.
===
Unrelated: is Parley's "gleaming heart" what keeps her from being a medium"?

Good on Parley for her swordfighter's instincts there. If there's one very good person to have turned up there, it's Parley - she already knows how to fight with a sword, and knows how to deal with a sword-bearing opponent. I just hope Eggers had her trained to deal with an opponent when she hasn't got a weapon to fight back with besides her own body.
Maybe then the ghost might realize that the girls aren't as coddled as she thinks. Heh.
Also, I've got a nasty feeling the girls may have to go find the arrow left in the Waters, dig it up, and break it apart to kill its power, before things are really, really resolved here?
I've the feeling that the arrow not only reduced Jeanne to this state, it's basically stranded her as the sentinel. To end that last remnant of her spirit and set her free, as well as ending the sentinel, probably requires the arrow of the sacrifice be dealt with as well.

Unrelated: is Parley's "gleaming heart" what keeps her from being a medium"? Maybe her attachment to a particular thing (i.e. Smitty) prevents her from attaining the degree of detachment and neutrality Annie has. Hum.

I apologize, Max, I know you and legion pretty much said the same thing. The part I couldn't figure out was exactly what luxury she was talking about, because she was going on about Parley's shining heart. I didn't see what the one had to do with the other until Legion pointed out that it was the safety that Jeanne's ghost provides that allows Parley the luxury of being able to fall in love.

Unrelated: is Parley's "gleaming heart" what keeps her from being a medium"? Parley's in medium training. Why would you say that something's keeping her from being a medium?

Does anyone remember that one scene in the Fellowship of the Ring when Bilbo sees the ring with Frodo and goes from FriendlyIanHolmFace to ScaryGollumFace in about a second? That's what the top of the page reminded me of.
Absolutely gorgeous art.
I agree more and more with the Shell of Jeanne theory. Perhaps the soldiers of GC were made to take an oath of loyalty which, in her case, remains in effect even after death. This would explain why the Ghost hates the court and it's inhabitants but still protects the Annan Waters.

seriously, scariest thing in gunnerkrigg so far? Definitely more unsettling than 595. Tom is showing to us his world(and our world too) such what it is in real without "ornaments": if there is evil or angry spirit its really is that... And I am grateful to him for that.

So, anyone still thinking Jeanne will listen to reason? Not today, no, I don't think so. I think that they're going to get the stone back and blip out of there. But I do think that Annie will, someday, eventually, find a way to bring peace to Jeanne's soul and help her move on to the afterlife like she did with Martin.

I think Parley will have to beat her in a match to get another chance at that.

I like how I posted this in response to someone, and like a thousand other posts pop out of nowhere.
Anyways, scary, but I can still go to sleep... I hope.

Second panel: Is that a cut on Jeanne's cheek the same as the one she gave Annie?
Also, awesome creepy.
