Looks like you got it to me, Scott! No comments from Tom, so I guess this must be about dead people and stuff.

Hopefully I'm doing this right, I've never tried to post a thread before. That's fine I don't see no green arrow stickin' outta that body... Yeah, I noticed that too. No sign of a wound or a hole in the clothing either.

...hey yeah, you guys are right. It looks like Jeanne died peacefully.
...or she was posed after death.

I don't see no green arrow stickin' outta that body... She probably got shot in the back. What I'm curious about is why it's there at all. You'd think in all this time the banks would have flooded at least once.

Other than the obvious lack of an arrow, I am puzzled to see Jeannes remains in that pose. That actually looks to me as if someone went down there after the deed was done and give her something at least remotely resembling a burial (arranging the body, with hands resting on the sword, removing the arrow).

If someone arranged the body then it would explain the lack of arrow, yes.
Though it would also raise the question of why the same person didn't bury her.

I'm kinda surprised everybody assumed the arrow struck Jeanne... I thought it had something to do with pinning her astral cord to the canyon, or something like that.

The ground looks pretty rocky, maybe there wasn't any dirt to bury her in?

Maybe her ghost came along and started hassling that person before he/she could finish the burial? Also, the bottom of that ravine is probably solid rock, so a proper burial may not have been practical.

Or she died from starvation, which isn't peaceful in the slightest. I don't know what I was expecting them to find, but I was mildly shocked by Jeannie's skeleton. Pretty creepy stuff.

I agree about the pose being odd. I am thinking it means her body was arranged after she died by someone not human.
Looks like there's some loose rocks there. I would expect a human to make an effort at burying her or building a cairn with the rocks nearby if the body couldn't be retrieved. Her hands should be clasped over the hilt as well, not holding onto the blade, but possibly carrion birds are responsible for that (doesn't look like much else except insects could get down there). Holding a blade like that just isn't something someone accustomed to swords would do with no scabbard; it's dangerous and the finger-marks can damage the surface of the metal over time. I don't think she'd choose to recline like that to go astral traveling or napping or whatever. On the other hand, someone not familiar with swords or burial customs but wishing to lay a body out respectfully might just arrange her grabbing onto the sword as if it was just a random thing she had with her.
Speaking of which, where's the scabbard? If she didn't take one with her that means she wasn't planning on being down there very long (walking over uneven ground with a bare blade is hazardous).
No shoes either. That's odd for someone spending time on rocky ground. I know she hasn't been depicted as wearing shoes before but that was indoors.
And nope, not everybody assumed the pimped-out arrow struck Jeanne. There's also the signal arrow theory and the silver-cord-cutter and soul-pinner theories. Check the ancient threads of yore for more details.
Considering what we know about the angle now it seems Steadman would have needed to be hanging onto a rope to lean over the edge and shoot straight down.

He could also have gotten lucky with a ballistic shot. I think the only way he could've done it standing like this is to crease the fletching so that the shot curves back to the cliff face. Even then, considering the big distance, we're probably talking a multi-skip bank shot off the stones. To peg someone with a fabulous shot like that would've made even Robin Hood cream his tights but I guess if anyone could do it Steadman the Archer could've. Or I guess it could be a heat-seeking arrow. Or just plain magic. Tough to rule anything out completely in a comic with magic.

Tom Siddell's story pacing serves as the binding agent between bounce-off-the-blackbird whacky hijinks and dead-as-a-skeleton seriousness.
It binds so well!
Looking back at the shape of the arrow, it would seem to me that the strangely shaped arrow head would likely have cause massive crushing trauma hitting someone. like stabbing someone with a spoon.

So the bottom of the ravine is etherically dead and lifeless. I wonder if it's the same on the other bank, near the forest.

Guys, the angle is only there 'cause kids aren't allowed to get off school grounds and approach the ravine directly like Steadman did. Remember, sirens go off when they take a step off the stairs.

I saw that the arrow wasn't there, didn't even twig that she had been arranged though. Maybe it was the "traitor" she was in love with.

Maybe she was drugged? What was special about her being there for three hours before Steadman made his shot?

Guys, the angle is only there 'cause kids aren't allowed to get off school grounds and approach the ravine directly like Steadman did. Remember, sirens go off when they take a step off the stairs. True, if they could reach over the edge they could drop the blinker stone straight down. However, if you look at Steadman when he's shooting he isn't leaning over the edge and shooting straight down. He's shooting at an angle and therefore has the same problem the girls had if he was trying to hit the bank on the near side. Strike the pose and you'll see what I mean. Looking back at the shape of the arrow, it would seem to me that the strangely shaped arrow head would likely have cause massive crushing trauma hitting someone. like stabbing someone with a spoon. It does look ill-designed for killing people. If I recall the debate correctly we came up with at least three possibilities. Possibility the first: It does look a lot like a signal arrow's point. The curvy bit of a signal arrow isn't actually a weapon, it's a bit of wood or metal designed to make a loud whistle/screech when shot; the flow of air makes the wood vibrate like the reed in a wind instrument. Since we didn't hear anything it's obviously not a simple signal arrow (and there's also the glowy bit and the funny thick shaft) so possibly the style is a nod to convention in Diego's design, or perhaps it's like an antenna. It wouldn't surprise me at all if the arrow did something etheric other than vibrate to make a signal. For example maybe it made a big green glowy sign after being fired. Below the edge of the cliff people on the Court side wouldn't be able to see it but the Forest side would. That might work well with the notion that whoever Jeanne is waiting for would need to know she was there, and how Young wouldn't want anyone not involved with the plan on the Court side to notice. Second possibility: A long time ago I think I remember seeing medieval arrow points like that designed for naval use, for cutting rigging on enemy sailing ships and boarding ropes and such. That would work well with the silver-cord cutter theory. Third possibility: Someone else mentioned that the point looked a lot like a modern fowling point for large bird hunting. The sickle-blade keeps the point from being deflected by thick feathers, I believe he said. This possibility doesn't come with a theory attached but I'm sure we can make one.

He's shooting from the side at an angle, because it's awkward to shoot strait down.

It is only an assumption that the arrow was supposed to hit Jeanne, but I'd say it is a pretty safe one. The "device" was specifically made arrow-shaped, in order to be delivered by a master marksman. From all we know, there's nothing but rocks and water at the bottom of the ravine - you don't need a master marksman to hit either of those (unless maybe you want to hit one specific rock).

He's shooting at an angle and therefore has the same problem the girls had if he was trying to hit the bank on the near side. Strike the pose and you'll see what I mean. It looks like he's shooting nearly straight downward to me. His arms and bow are over the edge. There's a slight angle, yes, but I would say he it goes along the cliff face, rather than angling away from it toward the waters. This is probably as much for balance and aim as anything else. EDIT: It looks like King Mir said the same thing already, sorry. He's shooting from the side at an angle, because it's awkward to shoot strait down.

Seeing no arrow... my initial thought is perhaps Jeanne was already dead when they lowered her to the waters.
