[750]So we will see some Dr. Dolittleing in this chapter. Sweet. In other news, this comic is now 3/4 of 1000 pages. That's probably worth some sort of note.

Someone guessed correctly on both the worms, and on the getting Paz to talk to it.

Ah, good. I was wondering when Paz's animaltalkingtoability would become plot-relevant.

Ah, so I was right about her digging up worms. Not so much through solid concrete.

You know, at first I thought this meant that Kat must know of Paz's ability to talk to animals. Then it occurred to me that Paz might just have a reputation for being good with animals. Either way, I can't wait to see what she finds.

We'll get to see how Paz's unluckiness manifests in the presence of a young bird.

Paz will accidentally drop the bird on the ground, then step on it.

That would make the bird unlucky, not Paz. I surmise that the opposite will happen : the bird will drop Paz on the floor, and step on her.

Hm...I wonder if Kat's been affected by looking under the robots' hood too long. I imagine when you've been involved in creating/fixing one, it's easier to see them as just machines.

Those little tufts of grass in the dirt-patch . . . are they the first "natural" plants shown in the court, other than in that camping-trip park? EDIT: Never mind. The dirt between the bridge and the steps of the court also has the occasional tuft of grass. EDIT AGAIN: And the Donlans have some bushes outside their house so nevermind altogether.

Paz will tell Kat that the bird was abandoned for being EVIL.

I think Kat might want Robot to stay put for now because moving around too much might mangle the current overcomplicated rig.

Kat, you have to chew up the worm and *then* feed it to the baby bird with your mouth.

I know the separation of nature and technology is one of the major themes of the comic, but it is possible to go too far with this theme. That is to say, it would be impossible to divide the two entirely. "Sir, we have just determined that the Court sits on several million tons of NATURAL dirt, rock, earth and soil. With some grass growing in it." "Activate the giant anti-grav maglev floating city hover device!" "Yes, sir!"

I would not at all put it past them to have an anti-grav maglev floating city hover device.

heh. I know the separation of nature and technology is one of the major themes of the comic, but it is possible to go too far with this theme. That is to say, it would be impossible to divide the two entirely. I don't think I'd call it nature versus technology. Rather, science versus the mystical. I don't know if it's picking nits, but for me the distinction is important. Something can be natural without being etheric. The court has no problem growing trees...once the etheric ties are cut. Though we haven't quite seen it yet, there's at least one forest denizen that I think wouldn't have any problem making use of some technology, so long as it's not from the Court.
