What?! Still no replies? You guys are slowing down!
Unless, of course, I am ninja'd while writing this.
EDIT: I should have known better...

Clearly, this little bird is the offspring of Kat's ex-boyfriend from a million chapters ago.
(Please note: I'm using a very speculative meaning of the word 'clearly'.)

This bird was sent down to Kat as a test of whether she'd be able to take care of a baby bird, and when she passes with flying colours, she shall be taken to the forest to become BRIDE OF ALISTAIR! Just like when Aly himself had to build a house of sticks! Clearly it is so!

Nothing like a little ugly duckling to mellow down a grouchy Kat!

Cue hearthwarming feeding-the-bird montage with piano and violin music, and then it dies and Kat has to deal with it and wins an Academy Award for her interpretation.

Cue hearthwarming feeding-the-bird montage with piano and violin music, and then it dies and Kat has to deal with it and wins an Academy Award for her interpretation. Sad, but true. 9 out of 10 "kid tries to rescue baby bird/ baby squirrel/ baby animal" scenarios end with the critter dying. Partly because caring for a dying animal helps character growth and partly because this happens a LOT in real life. Saving the bird would be an interesting problem, storyboard-wise. That bird, IF it recovers, isn't going to recover overnight, so either the main story gets put on hold for at least a month (of "in-story" time, not reader time), or stay-at-home-bird-mama Kat stays out of whatever adventures Annie might have in the interval.

The chapter could take a montage approach over several days (a bit like Chapter Thirteen). And this could be taking place during whatever punishment Jones levied upon Annie (which could explain why Kat's by herself in the workshop).

At first I thought the baby bird looked like a Tic-Toc, but after looking back at images of the Tic-Tocs I realized there is little resemblance.
One has to wonder where the bird came from, however. There was no nest in the area, and the only other birds around looked nothing like the baby and stared at it as if it were something strange. Is it from the court or the forest? How did it get to the court?

Kat should have left it there. The parent birds would have fed it on the ground until it got more feathers and could fly back up. Way to kill a baby, Kat.

Is it from the court or the forest? How did it get to the court? The nest was probably further back on the ledge, out of sight. See the previous 'page' thread for proof that pigeon chicks look nothing like adult pigeons, but quite a lot like the chick Tom has drawn. And pigeons look at everything as if it's strange. Confusion is their natural state of being.

And this could be taking place during whatever punishment Jones levied upon Annie (which could explain why Kat's by herself in the workshop). I was actually thinking montage. Feed the bird.... fix the robot.... (next day) feed the bird... fiddle w/ the robot... Doesn't really change the basic problem, which is that a baby bird would essentially be the most important thing which happens for the length of the montage. (You could still do the montage if the bird dies, of course, but it wouldn't eat up as much time.) I do like the idea that Annie's getting punished/ trained by Jones during all of this. Maybe we can get a "Meanwhile..." somewhere in there. If this were a self-aware, fourth-wall breaking Web comic, Annie would be reading scripts — "nope, not in this one either" ;D

Something like this happened to me today. I heard a kitten crying it was on my trampoline. When I got over there it just ran up to me.

Come to think of it, except for Chapter Thirteen (which covered five days), I think almost all the chapters generally covered a relatively short period of time - usually no more than a couple of days and sometimes only a few hours. (Flashbacks - such as the ones in Chapter Eighteen - don't count, especially since Kat finding the baby pigeon took place in present-day time.)
While I agree with most of the other posters that what Kat found is a baby pigeon, I do wonder why the parents aren't doing anything for it.
To Ruushi: I'm sorry to hear about so many of those kittens dying from the heat - but at least a couple of them survived.

Prediction: Paz and her talent will somehow get involved.
She can talk to animals after all. (I'm not sure what's so extraordinary about that. When you think about it, everyone can talk to animals.
Understanding them is a different matter.)

Confusion is their natural state of being. The nest is in the picture. Pigeon nests are extremely flimsy looking - they're basically a thin, barely balanced platform of sticks that look like they would fall apart in a slight breeze. The little twigs the parent birds are sitting on would be a typical pigeon nest.

Pigeons also like to roost in attics. Also, pigeon cooing sounds really disturbing if you don't know what it is.
