I predict many comic edits with that last panel.

I just... I don't even.... D:
Also, the white stuff on Jack's back looks similar to dandruff. Time to go buy some good shampoo, Jack!
This is the best. Chapter. Ever.

This is the time to thank everybody for a lovely evening, but you absolutely MUST be going now, as you have to turn in early.
Bet Annie's wishing she had that toothblade on her about now, and by the looks of that expression, not just as an instrument of defense.
Tom will reveal the whole plot in a few posts and totally blow our minds, and, while rooting around for our brains on the floor, these comics will all make sense. Until then, it's just odd, seemingly unfitting reaction images.

Things: - Gamma didn't seem to acknowledge the apparent Zimmy before this page. Now she is gripping her sleeves.
- I think those small white dots are baby spiders.
- What's causing Annie's snarl in the last panel? She's look at something on the ground.

This chapter is like a funhouse mirror looking into a funhouse mirror inside of one of those tunnels where the walls move and meanwhile everything is glowing under a blacklight.
By which I mean it's awesome.
No, MemoryJack! Don't let them eat you! D:

I'm going to make absolutely no further attempt to figure out what is going on until Tom stops writing "buzz" and variants thereof.
Speaking of which, today he wrote more "z"s than he has on previous pages.

Okay I've finally figured it out.
...this entire chapter is actually an anti drug campaign.
Because this is your brain on something really, really strong.
Other than that... *SHRUG*

Oh wow, we finally see Gamma touch/acknowledge Zimmy by clutching to her shirt. The panel right after looks like "Annie" having a very negative reation to that act.
Also, remember what I pointed out about Tom adding more Zs to buzz after 733?
733 - buzz After going through that dark gateway/hall to the nest area: 734 - buzzz 735 - buzzz 736 - buzzzz
The closer they've got to the spider's nest/Spider Jack, the more incessant the buzzzz. Just something interesting going on here.

Gamma stopped canceling out the noise for Annie, which is probably why she's getting more and more aggressive. o_x

Up to now I thought that Jack was just crazy, but now I think SpiderJack is either possessed or not Jack at all. Something evil probably needs all the MemoryJacks to break through to the other side. *hums appropriate Doors song while impatiently waiting for Monday update*

Jealous Annie is jealous. (I have now proven my interneticity). Jealous Annie is Zimmy. Honestly, this page did more than anything so far to convince me that they might really be switched around or mixed up somehow, in one way or another. That's a very Zimmy expression (and reaction). Come to think of it, that would explain the unusual dynamic of Zimmy defending Gamma from Annie's grabbiness-- Can't you see she's scared? is a much more Annie sort of line. The plot thickens... ;D

I just presumed the buzz noise was meant to conjure up images of a fly...about to be caught by a spider. And that's probably the intended effect. A fly's buzzing drawing closer to a spider's web, which is exactly the situation we've got in this chapter.

Yeah. "Annie" seems to have Annie's memories and moral compass (atleast to some extent), but Zimmy's emotions and instincts.

This whole chapter should be labeled as "Not recommended for arachnophobes".
(Probably with the additional warning that if you're not an arachnophobe before you start reading it, you will be by the time you finish it. The only thing that could make matters worse is if an etheric spider the size of Shelob shows up.)

So now we see that Gamma truly recognizes the person who appears to be Zimmy, and possibly trusts her as well. I could not see her looking for comfort or defense from someone who she does not think is capable of it, in such a situation, so I believe Annie appears to look like Zimmy. Otherwise I think Gamma would have said something by now, or would come off as a bit more clueless as to how to handle the situation. And the reason she doesn't respond to the Zimmy-look-alike is because she doesn't understand her, while she does understand Zimmy in Annie's form. Perhaps, when Jones let Annie handle the situation, more time elapsed than we thought. If this is so, it could be that Annie waited for Zimmy to appear, or had been chasing Jack when suddenly Zimmy entered the scene, causing an illusion and changing everyone's appearance. Then, (Annie now looking like Zimmy,) looked back and acknowledged Zimmy (appearing as Annie), but chose not to interact with her because she was going after Jack. I cannot think of any reason for the person who looks like Annie to suddenly have a very Zimmy expression, very Zimmy teeth, very Zimmy messy hair, very Zimmy stance (panel 3,)and a very Zimmy jealousy. You can try to take on positive traits of someone else, but that does not mean can ever truly be that person, you still have your own flaws. And for those of you who are picking at the color of the text bubbles: text: "don't listen to him, Jack!"color code: #FFF3F8 text: "don't..." color code: #FDF1F5
I am not sure if this is very good evidence, since the colors are just two shades different from each other, and it may just be Tom not paying attention to the colors. I'm going to go back and look at the color codes now though, just because I'm curious.

you know, if I didn't know any better, I'd think that Tea-San has been messing with us.
Just the other day, he drew out some panels which made it appear that Gamma wasn't acknowledging Zimmy's existence. People start posting up speculation based on that. Now Gamma's acknowledging Zimmy in a very obvious way, by gripping Zimmy's arm so tightly that it would fall off if she squeezed any harder.
separate thought: I'd be inclined to say that Gamma has been in some stages of denial. She sees Annie, and without even asking just sort of assumes that Annie is Zimmy. Then another Zimmy shows up, and Gamma still clings to this notion that Annie is Zimmy. Maybe she genuinely doesn't see Zimmy, maybe she doesn't want to see her, because that would mean having to confront her presumptions. She seems ridiculously slow on the uptake when it comes to reality vs. illusion ("the... real world?") And now we see Gamma afraid to confront Jack (perhaps with good reason?), clinging to Zimmy for safety ... "any port in a storm", right Gamma?

Annie should have waited for backup on this etheric intervention.
Jack? Evil Jack? Zimanniejackgamma? Spidery Chaos?
Smitty is the man for the job.
In any case, this chapter is one that I'm going to have to read over again after it's finished -- and (hopefully) resolved -- in order to get the full impact of what's going on here.

(or maybe she's got a sadistic streak underneath that cold exterior.) avoiding the dreaded double post: everyone assumes SpiderJack is evil. maybe he's just horribly misunderstood. "C'mon Jack... you're the last one we need! .... we can finally get our Spider rugby team started!"

Heh. From now on I'm going to trust Gamma, and believe what she said since page 729. So, Annie is Zimmy, Zimmy is Annie (she had to look like something, and two Annies, well, that would be even more trippy), Gamma is Gamma. And actually there was no elaborate misdirection on Tom's part - everything is pretty straightforward if we take what Gamma said for truth.
That's certainly the most simplistic explanation possible (which, I suppose, makes it somewhat unattractive), and I'm going to stick with it until proven wrong by the unfolding story ;-)
