It's taken me a very long time, but I've got it all down in a 50-page Word document. I realise this is a complete and utter waste of time, but it still feels like an accomplishment to achieve. It includes telepathic communication, narration, and even when somebody just says "...". It's all categorised by character and in chronological order, not reading order. I don't expect anyone to actually be interested. All I ask is recognition for the herculean, if pointless, task I have accomplished. For my own gratification, recorded here is the word count for each character. Antimony "Annie" Carver: 6,697 Katerina "Kat" Donlan: 4,266 Anja Donlan: 1,294 Reynardine: 1,119 Coyote: 1,099 Jones: 932 Sir James Eglamore: 853 Zeta "Zimmy": 805 Red: 716 Mort: 484 Seraph "Robot" 13: 402 George Parley: 320 Alistair "Aly" Kersaw: 316 Muut: 286 Tea: 271 General Ysengrin: 245 Donald Donlan: 228 William "Willie" Winsbury: 189 Surma Stibnite-Carver: 184 Basil: 151 Central Administrator: 128 The Moddey Dhoo: 119 Andrew Smith: 116 Jack: 114 Dr. Randy Disaster: 110 Mallt-y-Nos: 105 Headmaster: 103 Horsebot: 99 Blue: 97 Gamma Czarnecki: 91 Shadow 2: 81 Margo: 77 Sullivan's John: 75 Martin: 69 Janet: 66 Generic Teachery Person #4: 63 Generic Teachery Person #3: 61 Generic Teachery Person #2: 53 Brynhildr "Brinnie": 47 Pseudo-Kat: 47 Doorbot: 44 Matt: 38 Mysterious Individual #1: 33 Special Agent Fox Mulder: 31 Bob: 24 Nameless Student #8: 22 Purple: 21 Green: 20 Generic Teachery Person #1: 19 Nameless Student #12: 19 Nameless Student #7: 19 Photographer: 19 Paz: 18 Nightmare Monster #1: 18 Guardbot #1: 17 Guardbot #2: 17 Delivery Robot #2: 17 Scissorbot: 15 Nightmare Monster #3: 12 The Internet: 11 Mr. Thorn: 10 Nameless Student #9: 9 Nightmare Monster #2: 9 Mrs. Kersaw: 8 Nameless Student #5: 7 Nameless Student #4: 7 Nightmare Monster #4: 7 Unknown Seraph: 6 Nameless Student #11: 6 Nameless Student #15: 6 Bullbot: 5 Mysterious Individual #2: 5 Montgomery: 5 Nameless Student #3: 4 Nameless Student #2: 3 Nameless Student #16: 3 Boxbot: 2 Nameless Student #14: 2 Nameless Student #13: 1 Nameless Student #10: 1 Nameless Student #6: 1 Nameless Student #1: 1 Delivery Robot #1: 1 Robox: 1

Outstanding effort!
Did you mean to link to the document? Or is there a link I'm missing?

Firefox (aka Reynardine) says there's indeed no link. I do applaud in recognition of your bizarre and interesting task.
A question: are you going to maintain and update the document (and consequently this list) as time goes on?
Also: Are you willing to share your huge textfile?

having been a performer of herculean, though pointless, tasks in the past.
I applaud this effort!

How exactly does one link a text document to an online forum? I'd be happy to share it with you. And yes, I do indeed intend to update it as the comic progresses.

There's tons of free filehosting services. I just googled it up and File Dropper looks pretty good. Edit: I'm terribly sorry, I forgot to shower you with acclaim. How long exactly did it take you?

Thanks for the link. Um, I'm not exactly sure. I started maybe four weeks ago, but there have been a couple long gaps where I didn't make any progress and I'm not sure how long I spent on it per day. Depends on how I felt at the time.

Well, the document I uploaded is out of date already. The list has been updated, though. Eglamore is now ahead of Red in Word Count Challenge '08.

D: You're insane. And, you know. Cool. This is actually pretty interesting. I mean, some of the characters we know kinda well (eg. Smitty) are relatively low, and some characters which seem like they were only there for one page (Eg. Special Agent Fox Mulder) has quite a lot.
This is not saying we don't need more Mulder or anything.
EVERYONE needs more Mulder.

Agreed. Fox Mulder should become a primary character.

This is not saying we don't need more Mulder or anything. EVERYONE needs more Mulder. True. There should be a story arc where some creature shows up that can make people's dreams come to life or something, and Mulder emerges from Kat's mind or somesuch malarky. I know I'm insane (does that make me sane?), but I do enjoy this sort of thing. I was surprised that, until today anyway, Red was ahead of Eglamore. And for such a recent character, Jones's word count is very high. And is don't think anyone would expect Basil to have a higher word count than Andrew Smith.

Does Bullbot get word count for the "Hoooo" sound effects?

Does Bullbot get word count for the "Hoooo" sound effects? Yes. I figured if I was going to count Shadow 2's tweets and chirps, I should count Bullbots HOOOOOHs.

Nice effort! Although, you've discovered the true secret of statistics-- they're all tedious to gather, and ultimately pointless. Jones' word count surprised me, too. That Zimmy is so high on the list and Gamma so much farther down doesn't come as a surprise, though.

Sh*te, son. If the document was easier to access we could also have fun rearranging the dialogue.
