What I'm curious about is the one that's shaped more or less like a dragonfly in the last panel. Remember that weather-monitoring robot? Perhaps one of those strayed a little far from the roost.

Ed: is that ethereal confetti of some kind? I believe that's just stuff from the ether, which is getting so strong that in Annie's emotional state she can see it without the blinker stone. It reflects the beauty of the forest that Annie is slowly moving into. I think Wednesday will be a spread page of an entirely gorgeous portion of the forest, where Annie will presumably be spending the summer. Am I the only one who wonders what shape her clothes will be in by then?

I'm guessing all the banners and ribbons and stuff are warding and warning etheric charms and stuff. That would mean we're heading for some sort of camp at least, maybe even some more permanent community. They look quite tribal, perhaps a sign of Coyote's influence Native American within the forest? Guys, they are obviously party streamers to welcome Annie! There's even some stand-up balloon men in panel 3 & 5. If anything, Coyote knows how to throw a welcoming party. In other notes: That is possibly the most adorable headlock ever. And the little pat on the back, so sweet. <3

Mmm, another plot of the Court, this time to ensnare Ysengrin?
He is enumerating Coyote's gifts to his loyals, so "kno-" is the beginning of "knots and branches."

G'morning Tom
I think the point of the ribbons is to show they're approaching a forest civilization.

I feel terrible for this, but the first thing that last panel reminded me of was Princess Leia strangling Jabba the Hutt.

Remember when Annie was first getting used to her blinker stone, and she noticed a great many (jovial? jolly?) colors coming from Coyote's forest? That's what those streamer things remind me of.
Also, Ys is officially my favorite character in this comic. He might not be a pushover, but he's proved to be a good and nice guy. Being nice doesn't mean you're a softy or let people push you around. Just to be clear about that. I never expected him to turn into such a compelling individual.

At first, I didn't even notice the colored lines. Untill the last panel. Then my first thought was "exclamation marks?" ;D Yeah, I don't know why I thought that. Aww, Ysengrin.

I didn't even notice the lines till the second time reading the page either. I was so distracted by the d'awwtasticness.

In the third panel, that looks like an actual entity of some sort, not merely colored lines. One of the people of the forest?

I never noticed how incredibly large Ysengrin is.
Also, remember before, when Annie tried to hug Ysengrin at the pond? He went all "SNAP SNAP ROAR." I wonder how he reacts to this.

Anny does adorable headlock on Ygriny; it's super-effective. I think the lines of colors represent moving insects, or winged faeries, the first of the forest creatures to venture a peak at Anny moving so fast you perceive them as a blur of color and then hidden in the foliage again.

The first thing I thought of when I saw the banners are the Japanese sacred trees at Shinto shrines. They are also decorated, bound with rope and have paper streamers called Shide on them that act as wards. Perhaps these banners act in the same way; they are wards that protect the main part of the forest where all the creatures actually live. The tall wire looking things may be wind chimes, originally those served as wards in Asia and Eastern Europe as well. Some may be wish trees, they are still popular in Scotland and England to this day. I guess all the confusion between Coyote and Jones made her almost forget how hurt she was over everything, and Ysengrin just reminded her of all that. Poor thing.

interestingly enough, this sudden sympathy for ysengrin has put me on edge...it's terrible, but i'm expecting that next chapter we find out something like...he allowed jeanne's green-skinned boyfriend to go out and get killed for being a "traitor", i don't know. it's kind of like how everyone liked coyote, and then suddenly he turned into a giant arseface, and now at least 60% of us have 0.0 on our faces.
that, and remember what they called him? "general?" if anything, he's probably closer to a good military commander - doesn't like soft, soppy crap, but he knows how to make encourage his underlings and has an instinctual understanding of how people tick. he knows annie's young, and freaked out, and the best thing she could hear - the one thing that no one else told her, or had time to tell her - was that her mother loved her enough to give her life.

Contrary to my earlier post: Ysengrin is just a big old soppy: Well, big old soppy for a warrior. I'd mistaken that "pat" for just more motion lines. (I'll acknowledge that he could also just be correcting her posture to go with his speech.) === And again, let me point out those "ribbons" aren't mere decoration. There's the one in frame 3 that looks like a humanoid icon with three...children, perhaps? There's frame 7, lower left corner, a ribbon-entity with wing-like appendages. (Although these are similar to the crest on the individual in frame 3.) Frame 7, again, upper right corner, where the three ribbon-entities don't appear to be anchored by their tails; instead they're floating freely around Ysengrin.

I'm not sure I chose the best thread title. Out of context it sounds like Surma chewed Annie out over something.
I should have gone with "Beyond kno-gak."
I'm kinda half-expecting the next page to consist of Ysengrin responding angrily to Annie's affections. Or maybe he'll just make her walk.
