Hey louisxiv --first, I want to echo everyone's sentiments about how great of a resource this index is. What's your current policy on tagging a character when they are mentioned but don't appear? I ask because I was looking for this page, and I remembered that Annie says "Ysengrin explained what she [Jones] is," so I searched for Ysengrin + Jones--but it turns out neither of them is tagged on that page. Would it be worth adding those tags, or are character mentions too numerous to bother with? Thanks! Thanks for the kind words. Apologies for the delay getting back - I'm struggling to keep up to date with the forum, clearly. Mostly I tag characters and stuff I think may be significant/memorable that you can see in the page art. Plus characters off-screen but 'present' through a speech bubble. I probably have tagged mentioned characters occasionally, when I've thought it particularly significant, like I tag mentions of Omega. I'm open to adding mentions as a specific taggable, if there is wide support for the idea, but it'd take a while to backfill, checking the whole comic.

... Thinking about this, wasn't there a project to transcribe all the comic text - that would be a useful resource in itself, but particularly for adding name checks to the index page. I haven't noticed mention of it for a while, but is that around somewhere, anyone?
Update: found transcripts in the Fan Project, but only go as far as Chapter 5. I have a feeling there was something else too, but I don't see it right now.

The transcript exists in multiple Google Docs documents, one per book (links are here).

Runningflame Thanks, that's it. The format will need a bit of massaging and cleanup to be useful, but it would certainly make adding namechecks – and perhaps other keywords – more practical for the chapters it covers.
So...
- Is there wider support for the idea of including speech bubbles namechecks in the index entries?
- If so, is anyone wiling to contribute by supplying me with simple lists – e.g. page number <tab> name – I can use to update the index? That would surely speed up any implementation.
- ...and perhaps a rush of volunteers to add cover for the untranscribed chapters?

Footnote: Transcribing generally should be a lot easier than a full retype from screen text now given improvements of capturing text off an image these days. For example, I use TextSniper (from macOS app store) to pick up the index page's speech bubble quote for each comic page now if it is more than half a dozen words. There's break-even point between just retyping manually and grabbing and cleaning the odd capitalisation produced from Tom's use of Ale And Wenches font.

Just been catching up with the forum and noticed @corri was looking for previous appearances of Tea recently, which reminds me to post this reminder & update... The Gunnerkrigg Court Index is at www.louisxiv.co.uk/gunnerkrigg/. It covers Gunnerkrigg Court page 1 to 2702 and some of the side comics for a total of 2768 pages and 1192 tags of people, places and things. Updates every week or two, when I get a moment.

A New Year ResolutionJust in case I get run over by the figurative - or actual - bus:It occurs to me that I haven't updated the Github repository where I shared the data files for the index, several years since... As Github rather made my head ache and I don't have the client software installed these days, I've added the two plain text files the index is based on to the index site itself — where I am likely to update them more frequently. www.louisxiv.co.uk/gunnerkrigg/index.txtwww.louisxiv.co.uk/gunnerkrigg/alltags.txtThe index lists 2793 pages, with 1201 tags of people, places, things and chapters — of which 605 have descriptions in alltags.txt

A glitch corrected: I had a brainfart a few weeks back and started tagging Antimony as Antimony for the last 20-30 pages, rather than Annie for the previous nearly 3,000 pages.
I apologise for the error.
The index lists 2,912 pages (including some of the side-comics) and 1,265 tags.
